Spayed FemaleAge: 3 YearsGray TabbyDomestic Short HairA427501 More about Millie: I am a pretty girl, friendly when comfortable, and I enjoy attention! Very little is known about my past. I do tend to be quiet and shy at first, but I can also be vocal! I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one unoccupied room until I am feeling 100% comfortable, and this could take days to weeks. Once I have relaxed, I need to have a slow introduction to any existing pets while I settle into the rest of the house. My adopter should have a good relationship with a veterinary since I am overweight at too young an age, and I need to be introduced to a safe weight loss program. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: YesDogs: possibly, no known historyKids: possibly, no known history

Spayed FemaleAge: 5 YearsWhiteDomestic Short HairA441695 More about Ninja: I am a friendly and social lady. I can be cuddly, and I enjoy being brushed once I am comfortable. I have good litter box manners. My adopter will need a close relationship with a vet. I am diabetic, am on a special diet, and I require insulin injections, which I take well. I will need a slow introduction to my new home and litter box, starting off in one room, and only be given access to more of the home once I have settled in and become 100% comfortable in my new surroundings. I need an adopter who will be patient with me and able to read my body language. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. MY ADOPTION FEE WILL BE WAIVED AUGUST 27 - AUGUST 30 AS PART OF THE FELINEANOMENON ADOPTION EVENT !! Spayed FemaleAge: 12 YearsBlackDomestic Short HairA443730 More about Kitty I have lived a sheltered life with one older person who is moving to a nursing home. There were no other pets or children. I am quiet, and I love head and chin scritches. I love to play fetch with toy mice, and I have good litter box manners! I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one space with food, water, bed, and litter box util I am feeling 100% comfortable. This space should be a lower-traffic area such as an unused bedroom or bathroom. I have a history of living under beds, so it is important to provide me with appropriate hiding spaces to make sure I feel safe. I am looking for an adopter who will be patient with me, and be able to read my body language. Oh, and I do not like to be picked up. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. If I sound as though I could be a good companion for you, please stop by to meet me.

Story
Neutered MaleAge: 3 YearsBlack TabbyDomestic Short HairA444897 More about Aloo: I am sweet and cuddly with people I know once I am settled into my environment. I love playing with pipe cleaners and feather toys, and I enjoy sitting in the sun. I have a history of inappropriate elimination during stressful times, so I will be most successful in an adoptive home that is relatively low-traffic and in which I will be the only pet. I struggle with transitions, so my adopter should provide a slow transition to my new home, starting in one room where I can decompress after my transition out of my shelter stay. My adopter should be comfortable with keeping me confined for as long as it takes for me to be displaying calm, confident, affiliative body language and be using my litter box 100% reliably for several days in a row. My adopter should plan for no less than two weeks, but it could take longer for me to settle in. Once I am ready to more beyond the initial confinement space, my adopter should be prepared to give slow/incremental access to the rest of the home. This may involve small outings into the rest of the house with most doors closed, or simply allowing for access to one additional room at a time over the course of a few weeks or longer. My ideal adopter will express an understanding that patience is the name of the game with me, and that I will do best going as slow as possible. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank you!Dogs: No thank you!Kids: No thank you!

Story
Neutered MaleAge: 3 YearsBuff TabbyDomestic Short HairA446289 More about Mellow: I am a very handsome, big guy, sweet with my people. I am extremely needy and I always want a lap to sit on. But I can get overstimulated easily with too much touch, so my adopters should be cat-savvy and be able to read my body language to know when I have had enough. I enjoy going outside for supervised outings in nice weather. I would LOVE to have an indoor/outdoor option because I love nothing more that chasing butterflies and lying in the sun. I am good about coming back when I am called, and wait till you see me `prance like a horse`!Be aware that I am a door-dasher if I do not have a safe outdoor option! I have a history of feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). It is a collection of conditions that can affect the bladder and urethra of cats. Cats with FLUTD usually have episodes of straining and discomfort when urinating, increased frequency of urination, and blood in the urine. Stress can be a factor in these episodes, and I should be monitored closely during the period of adjustment after adoption. Staff is available to answer questions that my potential adopters may have about my care once I am home!! Compatibility: Cats: No thank you! I get agitated by the presence/sight of other cats, and would sometimes redirect that agitation onto my previous owner.Dogs: Potentially, but would have to be very mellow, and still could be a stressor to me.Kids: No thank you. Lived with 11 and 9-year olds, but kids are an additional stressor, so my ideal home will be adult-only. The shelter is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.

Story
Joe: I have the potential to be a sweet, gentle companion with a very cat-savvy adopter who is willing to put in the extra effort to help me come out of my shell. I would be ideal for a gentle, quiet adopter looking to help out a cat, but one that has low expectations for who that cat is and what I might become. Someone who will `let me be who I am` type of person. I have excellent history living with other cats! I would most often be found playing with my housemates and I really enjoyed having feline friends. BUT one of the cats from our group just tested positive for FeLV. The rest of us tested negative, but out of caution, we cannot be adopted into a home with an existing cat unless that cat is FeLV positive. And we need to be re-tested in six months for the final determination of our FeLV status. Feline leukemia is a disease that only affects cats it cannot be transmitted to people, dogs, or other animals. FeLV is passed from one cat to another through saliva, blood, and to some extent, urine and feces. The disease is often spread by apparently healthy cats, so even if a cat appears healthy, it may be infected and able to transmit the virus. Expectations should be kept low at first, and understand that I will need time (weeks to a month+) to show more of my true personality. Based on history in my previous home, I will always be a bit skittish with new people, so a low-traffic, quiet home will be best for me. I will be great with people within my bubble after time, but I am not the type of cat to go up and greet visitors. I should have a slow transition to my new home, starting in one room where I can decompress after my transition out of my shelter stay. My adopter should be comfortable with keeping me confined for as long as it takes for me to be displaying calm, confident, affiliative body language and be using my litter box 100% reliably for several days in a row. My adopter should plan for no less than two weeks, but it could take longer for me to settle in. This may involve small outings into the rest of the house with most doors closed, or simply allowing for access to one additional room at a time over the course of a few weeks or longer. Story
Gingersnap came to us with a very common and heartbreaking sad situation as a stray that landed in a kill shelter in Tennessee.   This beautiful girl was so terrified and despite that the shelter staff knew she  had a sweet spirit about her.   The shelter could have adopted her out because she is FIV positive.  Her way out alive was if she was to leave  with a reputable rescue that knew how to place cats like her.  She is very healthy and we have learned so much about cats living long and wonderful lives even with the FIV diagnosis.  She does not care for other cats and that is fine she cannot be around cats unless they are also FIV positive.   I'm sure she could adjust with another cat but she tends to just run away from them and she hisses and growls at dogs.  She would be a wonderful cat for a quiet home with a retired couple or empty nesters who have had all the young children fly the nest.  We do suggest a quiet home with no dogs  she loves to sleep in her little Kitty bed and enjoys a simple existence where she can receive human love and attention.   If you are interested in this sweet girl please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   September 8, 2024, 10:28 pm

Story
Meet kitty Armondo!!!  He and his litter mates did not have the best start in life.  Their mom was a member of a feral cat colony that lived in a ravine.  People were very concerned about the little family and were finally able to trap them all.  Mom was feral.  The babies were scared but nice.  It just took a little while for them to understand that people are nice and are trying to help them.  Mom was spayed and released and the babies went to a loving foster home.  They have now all been totally vetted and are ready for their forever homes.  Armondo is a sweet but shy 12 week old kitten.  He loves to play with his siblings Leo and Amschel.  They have the biggest time running and playing.  Armondo is a polydactyl/Hemmingway kitten.  He is unique in that he has 5 toes.  It looks like he has hands.  This sweet boy is a very good boy.  It took no time at all to litter box train him.  He would love to have a home with one of his brothers.  If not though he definitely needs a home with another kitten or young cat.  He has been through too much to not have a companion.  Armondo is a special boy with the tiniest of meows.  He will be an excellent companion and addition to your family.  To be considered for his forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Armondo is currently in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.)      September 8, 2024, 10:28 pm

Story
Felix's mom was part of a feral cat colony living in a ravine in Nashville.  This colony caught the attention of several cat loving women who decided it was their mission to save the colony from serious over population and find loving homes for as many as could be tamed.  The were already feeding the colony so the cats were somewhat familiar with them.  Traps were set out and one by one they were all caught.  Considering the circumstances everyone was in good health and almost everyone had the personality to be in a family.  All the adults were vetted and the babies were vetted as they became old enough.  They are all now ready to find their forever homes.  Felix is a curious 5 month old orange tabby kitten.  He is litter box trained.  Felix loves to play with his littermates Molly and Winston.  He would really like to be adopted with one of them.  Felix also plays well with the other kittens and cats in his foster home.  He is a sweet little guy who would be a great addition to your family.  To be considered for Felix's forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Felix is currently in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.)September 8, 2024, 10:28 pm
