Story
Simple pleasures in life- treats, sunbeams, gentle pets, spending days looking out the window and watching the world go by… This is what lovely eight year old Patchy is wishing for. Unfortunately, her owner was unable to care for her, so she is patiently waiting here for the next chapter of her life to begin. Pretty calico Patchy is a loving and playful girl who can be bashful until she feels comfortable and secure in a new environment. She would probably prefer a quiet and calm home with a patient and compassionate new owner who would make her feel loved and cherished once again. She may do well with another feline friend or a cat savvy dog. If you are looking for a gentle new companion, Patchy might just be the girl for you!

Story
World, meet Ginny! Quietly, quietly please, don`t scare her! She is an almost 5 month old spayed female black & white kitten, and boy has she been a wild ride here at LHS. Ginny was found outside as a little 3 month old and brought to us to receive basic medical care, as well as socialization. After lots and lots of treats, churrus, wet food, and slow, slow, SLOW patting, she has gotten to a point where she does not run away when you enter the room. This is SO exciting!! Does she like being picked up? Absolutely not. Does she like human company? ...somewhat! You can see she thinks about it and is coming around to the idea of being pat and loved up on, but in this moment, she is still hesitant with hands coming at her. What does Ginny need? A CAT! She loves, loves, LOVES friendly, playful, outgoing cats! One? Two? Three? The more the better, they just have to be a friendly cat! This is a requirement to bring Ginny home, you must already have at least one friendly, outgoing cat that will help her feel cozy & at home, and show her that people are fun too! Due to her shyer, flighty personality, we are not placing her with children. She may even be able to live with a friendly dog that will not scare her. Come on down & meet our shy girl ginny! Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process so you`re prepared to adopt & stop by the shelter with the required information to take home this pet.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Beard: I will need a VERY patient, cat-savvy adopter who can read my body language and give me time to blossom into my true personality. Expectations should be set that it is unknown how long it will take for me to adapt (possibly weeks to months) and I might never become super social, but more of a roommate. I will be ideal for a gentle, quiet adopter looking to help out a cat, but one who has low expectations for who I am, and what I might become. It is not known what I will be like in a home environment. I came from an overcrowded home with lots of other cats. I have been using my litter box consistently here at the shelter, but my adopter needs to provide me with a slow litter box introduction since it is unclear what my litter box habits were in my previous home. It is recommended that I be set up in my own space (an extra bedroom or bathroom) a space that people or pets will not use unless going in to clean or feed. This will allow for protected contact along with providing a safe space for me. I should be left alone initially as I adjust. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to a vertical surface such as a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf. I can gradually be given more access to the home when I am confidently moving about my environment with relaxed body language when my adopter visits me in my room. In my previous home there were multiple cats, but we do not know how we interacted with one another. I should not be introduced to existing pets in my new home until I have had a chance to adjust to my new environment on my own. Compatibility:Cats: YES!!! It would be best to go to a home with a confident feline friend that I can bond with and who can show me the ropes. I am most likely going to be a `cat`s cat` versus a `people`s cat`.Dogs: No history possibly if mellow and cat-savvyKids: Older, quiet, cat-savvy The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.

Story
Magic: I am a pretty girl, and I would like to be the queen of my castle and have all of the attention to myself! I would like to be the only pet in my new home, and I would prefer an adult-only home. I have had access to the outdoors, which I have enjoyed, and a safe outdoor option such as a screened in porch or catio is something I would appreciate. I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting off in one unoccupied room with all of my items. I should stay in the room until I am feeling 100% comfortable in my new surroundings. I recently had a dental with a few teeth removed, and the remainder cleaned and polished. I will need regular veterinary care and monitoring of my teeth. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No, Thank youDogs: No, Thank youKids: No, Thank you

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Mittens: I am a very playful girl, and I really love to eat and sleep ... in fact, I will keep you warm in bed if you let me! I have good history living with young children. I am skiddish at first and will opt to keep my distance when unfamiliar people come over but once I am familiar with them, I am friendly. I get easily stressed and overwhelmed during transitions, so we are looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in - this could be a couple of days, could be a couple of weeks. My success will be dependent on how well my adopters are able to read and understand my body language. It is recommended that I be set them up in my own space (an extra bedroom or bathroom) - a space that people or animals do not have access to unless you are going in to clean or feed. I should be left alone initially as I adjust. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to a vertical surfaces as well like a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf, and easy access to a litter box, food, and water. I should never be approached or be pet or picked up when I am hiding or showing fearful body language like curling up into a tight, tense ball, flattening my ears backward or to the sides, hissing, growling, swatting, etc. Ideally, with enough time to myself, I will begin to relax and move around more freely while my adopter is visiting my room. I can gradually be given more access to the home only when I am confidently moving about my environment and remains confident with relaxed body language when my adopter goes in to spend time with me. I would prefer to be the only cat in the home. Compatibility:Cats: No thanksDogs: Possibly, no historyKids: Yes, if they are able to go slowly with me as I settle in

Story
Opal: I am a beautiful girl who came to the shelter as a stray so we have no background information for me. I am on the shyer side, and will need time to adjust when I am adopted. My adopters should be cat-savvy who will give me all of the time I need to adjust. Since the shelter has no known history for me, we do not know if I am a more independent cat or a cuddly lap cat. Adopters should be open to the unknown of my personality and take me for whatever I end up being. No pressure should be added to me while I am adjusting, and I should be allowed to adjust at my own time and speed. I will need a close relationship with a vet. I am overweight, and I have a grade 3/6 heart murmur. A heart murmur is an abnormal sound to the heart which can either indicate underlying heart disease or can be benign. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) is the only way to determine the significance of a heart murmur. Some heart conditions may require monitoring and medications, while others may not require treatment. Some heart conditions will worsen over time and some will not. It is recommended that my adopters see their primary care veterinarian to discuss further testing for my heart murmur. I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting off in one unoccupied room that is a low-traffic space, with all of my items. I should stay in the room until I am feeling 100% comfortable. This could take days, weeks +. Compatibility:Cats: Possibly, no historyDogs: Possibly, no historyKids: Possibly if older, no history The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30 pm with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
