French Bulldog Age: 2-3 yrs old Female, Spayed 18 lbs Adoption Fee: Donation (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Francine was brought to the Oakland Shelter as a stray. During the intake process, shelter staff noticed fecal and urine “leakage.” Upon examination, Francine was diagnosed with sacrocaudal dysgenesis, a common condition in dogs bred with no tails (pugs, bulldogs, Corgis, etc.) The tail isn’t allowed to fully form resulting in defects such as incontinence (bowel and urinary). Unfortunately, Francine is incontinent, requiring her to wear diapers while in the house. Our experienced foster homes are happy to consult with prospective adopters in the proper care of an incontinent dog. With the proper materials and routine, caring for an incontinent dog is fairly easy. She also had a “cherry eye” which was repaired during her spay surgery. Otherwise, Francine is a friendly, loyal, playful, confident dog. At the adoption center she wants attention from everyone who visits. She lives in a foster home with another French bulldog (who is available for adoption from another rescue group), and they get along very well, However, being a “bully” breed, she can be a little bit of a bully with smaller dogs and cats. I had a neglectful past and suffered from Demodex mange and lost almost all my fur, but look at me now! Due to abandonment issues, I need someone that works from home or can take me to work. It’s not enough that I see you. I am ok to be crated for a few hours. I need a house with a fenced in yard (no apartments as I have a very loud voice), another non-dominant dog companion to cuddle and play with, and absolutely no cats! I’m writing this with a heavy heart and an overwhelming amount of regret and guilt. Three years ago, I took in a rescue puppy I fell absolutely in love with. Lola had such a difficult start to life. She was kept outside, roped and chained, passed from owner to owner without stability or love. I poured my heart into bonding with her, healing with her, and giving her the home she deserved. But life has taken an unexpected turn. I was recently diagnosed with heart condition at 36 weeks pregnant, caring for a two year old, and now working closely with a cardiologist while trying to focus on safely delivering a healthy baby.My energy has dropped overnight. I can no longer walk Lola or give her the attention, exercise, and time she needs and truly deserves. Lola is a laid-back, loving dog who will cuddle you to death. She adores children and does great with all animals. She has cauliflower ear in both ears and is slightly hard of hearing, but it doesn’t slow her down.

Once a stray, Bubba has settled beautifully in his foster home. He enjoys playing with his toys, chewing on his favorite bone, and going on leisurely walks. Treats are a big motivator for him, and he already knows “sit,” “come here,” and “go to your bed.” When it comes to other dogs, Bubba is curious and may pull toward them, but he typically loses interest once he walks past. In the shelter, he showed an independent streak, so while he could do well with a compatible, respectful canine friend, he may also be happiest as your one-and-only. Bubba does have chronic skin and ear conditions common for his breed, and he’ll need adopters prepared for ongoing care and associated veterinary costs. Story

I took Rocky from someone that was losing their housing. He came to live me, my husband, 10 yr. old, and Pitbull; when he was 7 mos. a year now. We got him neutered and our vet says he's very healthy, especially for a Frenchie. Rocky is very playful and smart. He knows sit and "go potty." He'll play fetch for hours. He's also content chewing a chew toy quietly or curling up in a lap. He and Macy wrestle, play tug, chase, and share toys well. He is, however, reactive around other dogs. He's crate trained and making good progress on being completely potty trained :) We're rehoming him because he seems protective of me and my daughter and has attempted to nip my husband when he's making big movements like exercising near us. He also doesn't get along with my mom's dog which makes her visits difficult. We have only recently discovered these issues and have not tried professional training. Rocky would do well in a less busy household, maybe with only 1 or 2 members.
