Story
Meet Carter — Your Adventure Buddy, Couch Companion, and Certified Life-Enthusiast! If you’re searching for a fun-loving, energetic companion who’s always ready for something — a road trip, a trail walk, a spontaneous game of fetch — Carter is your guy. This social-leaning pup is what we like to call an “otrovert”: he has a playful, outgoing spirit, but he prefers to build trust with new people at his own pace. Once he warms up, he becomes the most loyal, goofy, joyful friend you could ever ask for. One of Carter’s most charming qualities is his chameleon-like play style. He’s wonderfully adaptable and adjusts his energy and approach to match whichever dog he’s playing with. Whether his buddy wants gentle romping, fast-paced chase games, or confident roughhousing, Carter meets them right where they are. He especially enjoys dogs his size or larger, but his ability to tune into his play partner’s vibe makes him a fantastic companion for many canine personalities. When it comes to adventures, Carter is always in. He’ll hop into the car as soon as you pick up the keys, splash through rivers like they were made for him, and sprint after a tossed ball with pure delight. And after all the excitement, he loves settling in with his trusted inner circle for quiet, cozy downtime. Carter is house-trained, knows his basic manners, and is eager to keep learning. His social skills are so solid that he actually helps “mentor” younger dogs, showing them how to play politely and navigate the world with confidence. Now, he just needs a forever family who will help him continue growing and shining. What’s Carter dreaming of? A home with a spacious yard, a patient and loving family who understands that trust takes time, and someone excited to share life’s adventures — big and small. If you’re seeking a loyal hiking partner and a joyful, adaptable companion, Carter can’t wait to meet you… slowly but surely. Carter's Favorite Things: Chews: I enjoy crunching on my favorite chews in my safe spaces Outside Time: I love being outside and taking in my environment Hikes: I enjoy doing a few miles on the trails with my favorite friends Play: I love a fun playdate with another pup Cues That Carter Knows: Sit Down Let's Go! Greeting Manners Touch Place Carter is an All-Star dog! His adoption comes with some extra benefits at time of adoption. Their adoption appointment includes a discussion with our Training Team, and they will go home with their very own no-pull-harness and a few enrichment goodies to help get them off to a good start! To schedule an appointment to meet Carter, email info@ahconnects.org (please include your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to help you! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians. Ask fosters@ahconnects.org about fostering Carter, while he waits for his forever home!

Anderson Humane makes no guarantees regarding medical or behavioral status of this animal, and the current owner is solely responsible for disclosing any challenges or concerns. Nora is a stunning purebred German Shepherd with a heart full of affection. She recently lost her owner unexpectedly and is now searching for a calm, caring home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by love. Nora absolutely adores people and bonds quickly with anyone who shows her kindness. She has done wonderfully with children, though an older, gentle household may be the best fit simply because she’s a senior girl. Despite her age, she still has plenty of energy—she enjoys running, playing fetch, and being part of the action. Nora would thrive as the only pet in the home, as she prefers not to share her space with other dogs. What she needs most is someone who will give her the attention, comfort, and companionship she deserves. If you’re looking for a devoted, people-loving companion who wants nothing more than to love and be loved, Nora may be the perfect match.

Story
My parents had a divorced and I’ve been trying my best to take care of my dog named Bella but ever since they divorced I’m not quite sure what I’m gonna do with my dog since she is reactive she would probably need a muzzle to meet u but if anyone is willing to take the challenge and give her a better life than I have that’d be wonderful I don’t wanna put her down I wanna avoid it at all cost things have been rough in my life and I wanna relocate her to someone who can take better care of her she will be a challenge to train I’ve also had to move to night shift and my dad has been taking care of her but we are also selling our house so we probably have two weeks before they split up and I have to relocate with my grandparent and they don’t want my dog. with my family she’s always been kind and playful and I’ve had fun playing with her. But something in her mind snaps when it comes to other people and she becomes aggressive and tries to bite other people or pets.

Story
Meet Fred – Big. Loud. Strong. Full of Potential. Fred is a 70 lb German Shepherd mix, about 8 months–1 year old, and he is not for beginners. Let’s get that out of the way first. He’s big, powerful, and strong on leash. He pulls, he’s loud, and he can be bossy. Fred has completed basic training with A Sound Beginning and passed, but here’s the truth: training only works if it’s consistently practiced. Fred needs a family committed to reinforcing those lessons and continuing his training to help him mature into the dog he can be. Fred is currently in a foster home with small dogs that bark constantly, and yes—he’s picked up the habit. It’s not cute on a 70 lb shepherd mix, but it’s also learned behavior, not aggression. With structure, boundaries, and leadership, this is manageable. This dog needs: • A breed-experienced home • Mental AND physical exercise every day • Confident humans who understand working dogs • Consistency, structure, and follow-through Fred is not a couch ornament. If you want easy, keep scrolling. Now the part that matters. Fred is crate trained, fully house trained, and will go into his crate on command—or on his own to relax. He’s smart, food-motivated, and genuinely enjoys learning. He loves tug, toys, car rides, and being near his people. He’s loyal to a fault and wants nothing more than to belong. Despite all this, Fred has been repeatedly overlooked. He’s had no applications, which is heartbreaking—because this dog has incredible potential. He’s not broken. He’s not bad. He just hasn’t been given a real chance yet. With the right home, Fred could be an outstanding companion—the kind of dog people brag about once the work pays off. If you understand the breed, respect the work, and are willing to put in the effort, Fred will give you everything he’s got. He’s waiting. Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Carrots is an owner give up to our rescue. Below is the information her owner gave us initially. I have had Carrots for almost two years now. She has been the most amazing friend I could have asked for. She rarely barks and only lets out an occasional whine if she needs to go out or is wanting some attention. She’s a well behaved for a dog that lives her life with me in a small dorm and can only go out to play fetch or go for a walk when I’m not at class or work. She needs better. In general, she has been amazing for the hand she’s been dealt. I actually couldn’t be more grateful for how well she’s treated me as she’s grown to be near a full two years old!! I am having to part with her because she is still a puppy, and I’m a Junior in college struggling to work and commute on weekends when I have to, and give her the attention she deserves. She’s trained well. She sits on command, she can stay if you ask, she’s house trained, and she’s comfortable with her kennel if needed. She uses a harness for walks and does great. She was trained to walk on the left of you and she’s usually pretty good about staying focused. She has started the process of being an ESA certified dog but has not rec'd her second certification. Her previous owner said that she was around a child once and growled so we do not recommend her with small children. She has never been around cats so we cannot say whether she will or will not be okay arounds feline friends. She would make a great family member for an active family. If you would like to add Carrots to your home, please message us and we will send you an application. Carrots is being fostered in MS but included in your adoption fee is transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal friendly transport on the road! The adoption fee includes her medical for a health certificate and transport to you. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
