Story
We got Coco from the Prince George's County Humane Society in Upper Marlboro, MD. Coco is around 4 to 5 years old. We are hoping to find someone who will give her daily walks, brushing, and lots of love. She is a little afraid of people and large crowds, but does well with a small family. She is very sweet, calm, loves walks, affection, and attention. She will bark if someone is at the door or when she wants to come inside; otherwise, she is pretty quiet. We would love to keep her, but there is a new baby, and with working, there is not enough time to give her the attention she needs.

Story
Nelson is a 2-year-old, loving and loyal dog we first fostered and then adopted. He is fully vaccinated and has completed 3 weeks of obedience training, he knows sit, stay, place, leave it, paw, and “let’s go.” He attend Doggy Daycare 2-3 times a week. He is a sweet, well-behaved boy who thrives on companionship and will happily follow you from room to room. He enjoys long walks and does best with structure, consistency, and continued reinforcement of his training. Due to a shift in lifestyle and increased travel, I am no longer able to give Nelson the time he needs. Nelson would do best as the only pet in the home. He does not do well with cats and should be in a home without other animals as he likes to be the center of attention. His ideal home is with someone who has time, patience, and can provide consistency, love, and routine.

But playing fetch or frisbee with older childern (10+) is his favorite. He is an energetic and playful dog who thrives on interactive play and physical activities, but he is totally down for pets and snuggles once the day's activities are done. His enthusiasm and zest for life, paired with his affectionate nature, make Percy the perfect companion. Percy knows the "sit," "down," "stay," and "wait" commands and is working hard on learning his "come" command. He is house-trained and crate trained.  He was also trained on an invisible fence, walks nicely on leash, and "heels" when asked.  Percy gets along with other dogs, he has a rough play style and does best kept in check with commands that are firm not harsh, and he in the past he was okay with cats. Overall, he is incredibly loving and devoted. With the right guidance and consistent training, Percy will thrive and become a well-mannered and cherished member of your family. He is always eager to explore new places and make new friends, both human and canine. If you're ready to embrace his spirited personality and help him grow, Percy is ready to bring joy and adventure into your life!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends that all new adopters enroll their new pet in obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/. This playful and cuddly boy has a heart full of love and a personality that truly shines once he gets to know you. At home, Wesley is wonderfully calm and easygoing. He’s both house trained and crate trained, settles nicely indoors, and is generally a quiet companion. His favorite place to be is right next to his person, soaking up pets and attention. When it’s time to play, his fun-loving side comes out! He absolutely loves playing fetch, enjoys walks and outdoor adventures, and will happily chase squirrels if given the chance. He has a medium energy level with a strong mental drive, so he’ll thrive with an adopter who can keep him engaged through play, training, and enrichment. Wesley is still working on his manners and would benefit from continued training. He’s food motivated and eager to learn, currently practicing commands like sit, stay, and wait. He’s also working on leash skills and learning not to jump up when excited—he just gets so happy to see people! With other dogs, Wesley can be enthusiastic in his play style. Because of this, he may do best as the only dog or with another large, confident dog who can match his energy. Due to his tendency to jump when excited, a home with older children is recommended. Wesley would thrive in a home with a yard where he can run and play fetch, or with an adopter who enjoys regular trips to the park. He’ll do best with someone who has the time and patience to continue his training and provide the mental stimulation he enjoys. In return, you’ll get an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion who just wants to be by your side. If you’re ready for a loving, playful dog who will be your constant sidekick, Wesley is ready to meet you!  Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Lilly is 4yo, weighs 58lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, but is not microchipped.  Lilly is good in the car, but is anxious; she dislikes/fears loud noises such as thunder and gunshots.  Lilly's guardian adds:             "She is Ball or Frisbee fanatic. It's all she wants to do.  A friend told me it's a sign of working dog . A complete stranger could Walk up to  Lilly  hand her a ball and she would accept them . That's how I introduce her to others.  Being a Shepherd she is very protective.  I take her for walks on the Antietam battlefield the closer we get to cars people or dogs the more anxious she gets to the point that I avoid confrontation.  My son hugs me and you can see her unrest. She has the anxiety of wheels. Especially byclcles. She did a year ago knock a byclicelest over on the C.O canal.didnt attack him though.                                  We did go through  4 months of professional training.once a week  2yrs ago.  She knows All the commands  She is very smart, but training was cut short because my wife had a heart attack.  We did board her at a large kennel 3 times when we went on vacation.  She was kept away from other dogs.  She is fine with them and at the vets when neither of us are around.  She loves to swim as I have taken her to Antietam creek numerous times.  I believe in the pack mentality and think she's not been totally broken of it. She listens to me but I just don't trust her and I have grandkids and friends and just can't risk it anymore." Lilly's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  "I don't trust her that she won't commit another bite or someone or another dog or animal, especially when I'm not around." BITE INCIDENTS:  In April 2022 and in May 2023, Lilly bit a neighbor's dog and guardian's son's friend.  Guardian explains:  "Neighbor's 2 small dogs were on the property border and Lilly attacked one and the dog was treated by the vet.  [My] son's friend, visiting, got close and she bit leg (nip bite on butt and teeth bite on back of leg); treated by us, not by doctor; both incidents were reported to the humane society."  Lilly's guardian states the following regarding children/dogs/cats:  Lilly lives with a cat and parrot, but hasn't lived with children or dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with anyone but an adult.   Lilly's guardian describes her as: Very active Playful Independent Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Lilly's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "I believe Lilly would be best suited for an individual.  She wants to please and does interact great with me.  No matter where we go or do, she wants to follow.  She is playful with so much energy." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Prima is 2yo, weighs 67lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Prima's guardian states: Prima is extremely smart and affectionate.  She is eager to learn and picks up on training exercises very quickly.  We have worked with a professional trainer for 3 months now.  She is well trained.  She loves going on walks and can even keep up while jogging. She loves to play fetch and zooming around grassy areas. When it's time for bed, Prima is the perfect snuggle buddy. She has a strong bark which she uses to protect her home. However, she only uses it sparingly. She is fully crate trained and housebroken.  Her recall is solid and she walks well on leash.  Her favorite toys include squeaky balls, tug toys, treat puzzles, and bones to chew on. She knows several commands such as "sit ", "stay ", and she will sit politely while you are serving her food and wait until you tell her to "break " before eating.  She loves car rides! Prima's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome her:   "My wife is blind and has become fearful of Prima.  We are looking to regime ASAP.  Prima will nip at my wifes arm and butt, jumping at her face.  With my wife being blind, she does not know what’s going on and how to stop it.  Prima is good when I’m in the room but as soon as I step out, she starts to bully my wife." Prima's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Prima hasn't lived with nor otherwise been around children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children. Prima's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Prima has lived with a dog, so her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "Prima can be pushy and dominant". Prima's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Prima has lived with a cat, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "Prima has a high prey drive to see cats and can get fixated on it all times". Prima's guardian describes her as: Very active Playful Friendly Affectionate House-Trained Crate-Trained Prima's guardian describes her ideal future home: "Prima will thrive with someone who can spend time taking her on adventures and teaching her new things.  Prima would do great in an active house with experienced Shepherd handlers."
