Story
Born April 10, 2026, Mandy is a beautiful Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix. She is smart, athletic, affectionate, and wonderfully sweet once she feels comfortable. Mandy is a shy girl who needs a little time to warm up to new people. Strangers, especially people entering her home, can make her nervous. In the past, she would retreat outside and hide, but she has made wonderful progress. She now feels comfortable staying in the room, and she has formed strong bonds with her foster family and several familiar friends. Once Mandy trusts you, her sweet and affectionate personality really shines. Mandy would do best with an experienced, patient family who understands that confidence takes time to build. Because she can still be uncomfortable around young children, her ideal home will have children over the age of 10 who can respect her boundaries and give her the space she needs. Continued positive socialization with new people will help her keep building confidence. Mandy loves other dogs and is excellent at respecting their boundaries. She is also learning how to live with cats. Continued positive exposure should help her become more comfortable around them. Mandy is doing very well with housebreaking as long as she is taken outside regularly. She sleeps with her foster parents and does well spending time in a crate during the day when her foster family needs to leave. She is still very much a puppy, though, and she is a chewer. She has also discovered that baby gates are more of a suggestion than a rule: Mandy can climb them and get herself where she wants to go. Mandy is incredibly smart, which is one of her greatest qualities, but it also means she needs plenty to keep her busy. She can figure things out quickly and can get herself into trouble if left alone without enough to do. She will thrive with structure, training, mental enrichment, and appropriate outlets for her busy brain. An active lifestyle would be perfect for Mandy. Walks, hiking, games, training sessions, puzzle toys, adventures, and learning new things are all right up her alley. At the same time, Mandy is naturally quiet and sweet and enjoys relaxing with the people she trusts. Experience with Belgian Malinois or shepherd breeds would be a huge plus. If you are ready for an active, intelligent puppy and are willing to give Mandy the patience, structure, enrichment, and guidance she needs to thrive, Mandy is ready to pack her bags! Please contact Darlene at 302-312-5129 (fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.  This dog is located in Newark, DE. Visit us on the web at https://fur-everpaws.com/fur-ever-paws-adoption-application/ to submit an application. Please contact the foster directly at 302-312-5129 (text or call) or via email at fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com Fur Ever Paws Dog Rescue is a small no kill rescue operating in the Delaware/Maryland area. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed). We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters. August 27, 2026, 8:38 pm
