He enjoys cuddling, sleeping close, and being near his person, and he has a calm, sweet temperament in a familiar environment. He has previous experience living with another dog and did well in that home. However, he can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, cats, and new people, so slow, structured introductions and consistent guidance are essential. He also experiences some separation anxiety and is best suited for an adopter who can provide routine, reassurance, and companionship. On walks, he is curious and enjoys exploring—especially when he finds acorns or fresh grass to nibble. Indoors, he settles well and is affectionate, gentle, and eager to please. We adopted King Henri a month ago from PG County Animal Services Division, which said he was 2 1/2 years old and great with other dogs. We have since learned from our veterinarian that he is 4-5 years old, and in our time with him we have also recognized that he is reactive around other dogs and would do best in a home without other pets. We went to a dog trainer who determined that given our ages and lack of strength we would not serve King well. We also worked with a behaviorist who acknowledged that with desensitizing and conditioning, King's reactivity is very manageable, especially for a younger owner than us. He is magnificent with people of all ages including infants and children, was clearly well trained to obey via words and hand signals, and is very loving always. He is very well behaved in the house and never vocal or barky. He eats well and takes medicine easily. We give him vitamins and heart worm meds and we had him neutered. He is doing very well post-surgery!

The rescue story of our perfect German Shepherd boy called Aries as told by his foster mom. He is about 6-7 years and just under 80 pounds: Aries is probably the happiest dog I’ve ever had! He has a lot to celebrate and I think he knows it… I heard that a GSD was at a full local “kill” shelter and made up my mind to rescue him when I heard he had 1 more day.When I went to the shelter to pick him up, his demeanor was to maintain his distance. You could tell he was confused and on his back foot about where he was and why. Then he got a whiff of my farm boots and the great outdoors and his expression changed.Upon arrival at my farm, his personality came alive. I turned him loose in a big grassy field and he ran and sniffed and explored, always coming back to check in with me to make sure I was ok with his enthusiasm!!Since that day he has never looked back. The freedom and carefree abandon he is experiencing is evident in his happy eyes and tail wags.His best friends are two Heelers who he frolics with for hours. His most favorite toy is a big blue ball that he happily plays with when everyone else is resting. Every morning and evening when I feed him he expresses gratitude with wags and a loving lick or two to my face.The best situation for him would be a home with a big yard and lots of room to run and play. He is is a mature and settled, calm dog who has thrived here with me and his new dog friends. He prefers no cat friends!
