Story
Do you have a taste for popcorn – well then, meet Popcorn! He is a gorgeous 2-year old golden retriever who is young, energetic and curious. Rescued from a shelter where he had abdominal surgery, he is now ready to find his family. Popcorn knows sit, down, walks fairly well on a leash and as a typical retriever likes to play ball, however, he will need training with his new family to become the best he can be. He is 62 pounds, vaccinated, chipped and neutered. As he is new to rescue, we will learn more about him as he acclimates to his foster home. Popcorn is a beautiful boy looking for that special someone who will make him part of the pack.

Story
Phoenix is our “second chance at life and rising from the ashes” puppy mill dog from Ohio. When this 2-year-old Golden Retriever came to us he was very shut down, fearful and always laying in a corner with his head towards the wall. But we are excited to see how much progress he has made. He is shy and timid, however we are confident that he will become a fun loving and affectionate guy. We have seen him opening up to his foster canine brother by running and playing with him. He has even learned to fetch and has discovered soft toys. Eating is a favorite thing for him, and he has even trusted his foster to hand feed him. We did not know that landscaping was one of his talents until he chose an area to till the earth and then lay in his creation. He loves being outside so his new home must have space for him to run and romp as he is still unsure about the big world beyond. He will also need a doggie sibling to lean on and mentor him along his journey in becoming a treasured and loved family member.

Story
About Me  Meet sweet Brut who was born into SCGRR when his mom, Bubbles, was brought from Mexico. He was adopted as a puppy and due to unforeseen circumstances, Brut (renamed Lalu) was relinquished to SCGRR.  Brut is a very sweet boy who is approximately three years old. He spent the majority of his life as part of a bonded pair. The pair was recently separately as his fur sibling may have been the dominant of the two. Brut now finds himself for the first time navigating the world solo.  He is good around adults, kids, and other dogs. Brut is velcro and will follow you everywhere. He loves being in your space and often leans into you. Brut takes treats gently, loves to please his humans, is loyal, and is very intelligent.  Brut is potty trained and has had no accidents in his foster home. He is not vocal, but will stand at the door should he need to go out.  Brut knows basic commands like: sit, stay, come, ‘no’, and focus. He also loves retrieving a tennis ball and will even play soccer if you have a soccer ball.  While indoors, Brut exhibits low energy, and is content to snuggle up next to you on a couch, or just lounge around during the day. In the evenings he sleeps soundly and hardly moves at night.  He enjoys walks and pulls lightly on his day walks. He pulls a little harder on evening walks when he is more alert and protective of his human, and he is improving in this area.  Brut has a strong prey drive. He does not live with a cat in his foster home, but he would do best in a home with no small animals. During his walks he will pull if he sees a rabbit or squirrel. He is also protective of his backyard when it comes to rodents.  Brut is still learning to be comfortable on leash out in the world. He will bark and pull when he sees another dog. His foster home has been working with him and he is slowly improving in this area. His new home will need to provide him ongoing support and training.  Brut currently doesn’t like to be left alone and will bark and be stressed when left completely alone. His foster family has been working with him and he has been improving, but his new home will need to provide Brut ongoing training and support in this area. As Brut learns to navigate the world on his own, he can sometimes display anxiety and unease at times. This comes out as whining and whimpering, but not aggression. This might be the result of him not getting out much in his prior home and experiencing the world as well as being separated from his dominant sibling. Brut would do well with a home that is patient and understanding, but at the same time can get him out to experience more of the world and socialize him.  Despite his training needs, one of Brut’s greatest assets is his intelligence. He is a super smart dog. He picks-up on your cues as to what you want. When training him, he learns quickly. Although Brut is low energy most of the day, he is a very athletic dog. He has lots of endurance and stamina. He would do best with an owner that needs a companion on daily runs, strenuous walks, or hikes. These activities would also help with his anxiety.  My Ideal Home  Brut would do well in a variety of homes. He is a very sweet dog that loves humans. His ideal home is an owner that is patient and has the time to dedicate to his training needs. He would do best with an owner that works from home. Brut loves children, and would do best in a home with older children (10 years and older) that are more independent and compete less for the owner’s time. Brut needs to learn to navigate the world on his own, and at the same time he would do well with a fur sibling. He has started to bond with one of his fur siblings in his foster home, and it puts him a little more at ease to navigate the world in partnership with another dog.  Want to Adopt me?  If you believe your home is the perfect match for me, please make sure you have first submitted an adoption application and completed your home interview with a SCGRRescue Volunteer. Story
About Me  Langston found his way to SCGRRescue when his family moved out of the country and couldn’t take him. His foster family describes Langston as “a perfect dog in almost every way.” He is sweet, loving, affectionate, and playful but it will take time for Langston to settle into a new home and to feel like he can completely relax and trust his new family. Once he does, you will have a sweet, happy, tail-waggly best friend for life who just wants to please! Langston has lived peacefully with cats in his prior life, plays well with other dogs, and would do best in an adults-only home.  Langston is completely potty trained, crate trained (although it’s been used sparingly), and does not counter surf…although he DOES sometimes look at you with his big, puppy dog eyes when food is involved! He is very smart – he knows his left from his right paw, can “high five,” and responds well to redirection when needed.  We believe he is a Golden/herding breed mix, which means he has some energy and loves to work, so he will not do well simply left unattended in the backyard. Rather, Langston needs a family who will spend a lot of time with him and who will offer mental stimulation and physical activity. When this is provided, he will wait patiently and is not destructive when left alone at home for a few hours.  During his time in rescue, Langston has been working on some anxiousness around the front door and meeting strangers with ease. He has done beautifully in dog play groups but is anxious on leash when he sees other dogs. He has been working with a trainer on these issues, and has been making huge strides thanks to his diligent foster parents who consistently work on his established training protocols. We hope that his forever family will continue the work that we started in order to give Langston the best life possible.  My Ideal Home  Langston requires a quiet, adults-only, low-key home that doesn’t get a lot of action or visitors. He needs a family who will spend a lot of time with him, chill with him and play with him. A backyard would be ideal. No apartments for this guy as it would be too stimulating for him at the moment. His family should be committed to continuing his training. He could be an only dog or with another well-balanced, well-socialized dog. Cats should be ok but always be cautious when introducing a dog to cats in a new home for safety.  Want to Adopt me?  If you believe your home is the perfect match for me, please make sure you have first submitted an adoption application and completed your home interview with a SCGRRescue Volunteer.
