NOTE: Please see our website (www.roversretreat.org) for additional information on the adoption process and more pictures of Freya This stunningly beautiful golden girl is Freya. Her life prior to rescue was not glamorous at all. She was purchased by a farmer in Turkey and chained in a yard to guard his chickens. When she proved not to be a good guard dog, the owner gave her to our rescuer. Fortunately Freya has adapted to a pampered and happy life very quickly and has not looked back once. Freya is approximately 3 years old and 74 lbs (a bit chunky) and needs to lose about 10 lbs. She is a moderate energy girl who loves her walks and chasing squirrels. She gets along great with other dogs and cats as well. Freya has discovered the joy of toys, and enjoys playing fetch and all sorts of plush/squeaky/crinkly toys. Freya is a great balance of adventure partner and couch potato…she is up for anything, but once she gets her exercise she is happy to cuddle on the couch and gets lots of rubs from her people. Freya will alert bark appropriately, such as when someone knocks on the door and when she’s getting accustomed to all the new sights/sounds/smells in her new home. Freya has had no issues sharing toys and affection with her doggie foster siblings. She is happy to meet new dogs, loves going on car rides, and loves splashing around in the water. This girl is an all around great houseguest at her foster home, and a sweet lovable girl. If you are interested in Freya, please complete our adoption application. PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org Benji is ready for his furever home! We rescued this cutie a few weeks ago and he’s settled into his foster home wonderfully. Now it’s time for him to find the furever family he deserves. Benji is a 2 year old golden doodle and a typical young pup. He loves being active but Is also content to cuddle on the couch after some outdoor fun. Benji would do best in a home with another playful dog and patient hoomans willing to continue to work with him on his basic manners. He gets very excitable on leash when he sees new dogs/people and wants to say hi to everyone. This adorable fella is going to make one lucky family very happy. If you’re interested in adopting Benji please complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org ! PLEASE NOTE: Benji is being fostered in Oceanside and his adoption fee is $800

Story
Meet Huckleberry, the sweetest guy ever! Huck is a shelter pup, estimated to be about 8 years young. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Huck is always up for an adventure. He loves car rides, long walks and enjoys meeting new people. Huck has a bit of a wonky gait. He has been diagnosed with a luxating patella, which our vet believes he has lived with most of his life, but it doesn’t slow him down a bit. Huck has been the perfect houseguest in foster care. He is house-trained, no counter surfing, no barking, no chewing, no separation anxiety. He loves cuddles and belly rubs and hanging out with his people (unless they are vacuuming, then he will wait outside thank you). Huck would be the perfect addition to a quiet home looking to add some golden love. While Huck loves his walks, he has proven to be reactive to other dogs he sees on leash. For this reason he should really be your one and only. Gentle and sweet, Huck is all about people and loves everyone he meets…dogs, not so much. Huck has not been tested with children but his sweet and gentle nature lends us to believe he will be fine. He does not jump up, paw or beg. He has not been tested with cats. If you’re interested in Huck, please fill out our adoption application. Questions can be directed to Cheryl at rescue.ranger525@gmail.com

Do you have a taste for popcorn – well then, meet Popcorn! He is a gorgeous 2-year old golden retriever who is young, energetic and curious. Rescued from a shelter where he had abdominal surgery, he is now ready to find his family. Popcorn knows sit, down, walks fairly well on a leash and as a typical retriever likes to play ball, however, he will need training with his new family to become the best he can be. He is 62 pounds, vaccinated, chipped and neutered. As he is new to rescue, we will learn more about him as he acclimates to his foster home. Popcorn is a beautiful boy looking for that special someone who will make him part of the pack.

Story
Phoenix is our “second chance at life and rising from the ashes” puppy mill dog from Ohio. When this 2-year-old Golden Retriever came to us he was very shut down, fearful and always laying in a corner with his head towards the wall. But we are excited to see how much progress he has made. He is shy and timid, however we are confident that he will become a fun loving and affectionate guy. We have seen him opening up to his foster canine brother by running and playing with him. He has even learned to fetch and has discovered soft toys. Eating is a favorite thing for him, and he has even trusted his foster to hand feed him. We did not know that landscaping was one of his talents until he chose an area to till the earth and then lay in his creation. He loves being outside so his new home must have space for him to run and romp as he is still unsure about the big world beyond. He will also need a doggie sibling to lean on and mentor him along his journey in becoming a treasured and loved family member.

Story
Hi I'm Welly the wonder kid! 10 months old- germanshepherd goldenretriever Aussie Shep is our best guess. I am still VERY much a puppy-65 lbs-and looking for a home with humans who are leaders because, lets be honest, all dogs need someone who will not just love the crap out of them and over indulge them. Dogs need structure and boundaries. Puppies (me) desperately need this so we can grow up to become the best and most balanced versions of ourselves. I would thrive in a home with a dog friend. I amvery playful. I am fine with cats but definitely wants to play with them so I might not be for EVERY cat 🤪. Fostered with young kids (kids are dog savvy and tell me NO when I jump). Can't wait to meet you! *please note All of our dogs are in private foster homes. Once you fill out an application it will be screened by our volunteer adoption team. From there, if your application looks like a good fit for the particular dog, it will be sent to the foster where you can ask all the questions you would like and schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs. If you apply from out of state we do request you come to Los Angeles to meet us and fly home in cabin or drive. www.apurposefulrescue.org

Story
About Me  Langston found his way to SCGRRescue when his family moved out of the country and couldn’t take him. His foster family describes Langston as “a perfect dog in almost every way.” He is sweet, loving, affectionate, and playful but it will take time for Langston to settle into a new home and to feel like he can completely relax and trust his new family. Once he does, you will have a sweet, happy, tail-waggly best friend for life who just wants to please! Langston has lived peacefully with cats in his prior life, plays well with other dogs, and would do best in an adults-only home.  Langston is completely potty trained, crate trained (although it’s been used sparingly), and does not counter surf…although he DOES sometimes look at you with his big, puppy dog eyes when food is involved! He is very smart – he knows his left from his right paw, can “high five,” and responds well to redirection when needed.  We believe he is a Golden/herding breed mix, which means he has some energy and loves to work, so he will not do well simply left unattended in the backyard. Rather, Langston needs a family who will spend a lot of time with him and who will offer mental stimulation and physical activity. When this is provided, he will wait patiently and is not destructive when left alone at home for a few hours.  During his time in rescue, Langston has been working on some anxiousness around the front door and meeting strangers with ease. He has done beautifully in dog play groups but is anxious on leash when he sees other dogs. He has been working with a trainer on these issues, and has been making huge strides thanks to his diligent foster parents who consistently work on his established training protocols. We hope that his forever family will continue the work that we started in order to give Langston the best life possible.  My Ideal Home  Langston requires a quiet, adults-only, low-key home that doesn’t get a lot of action or visitors. He needs a family who will spend a lot of time with him, chill with him and play with him. A backyard would be ideal. No apartments for this guy as it would be too stimulating for him at the moment. His family should be committed to continuing his training. He could be an only dog or with another well-balanced, well-socialized dog. Cats should be ok but always be cautious when introducing a dog to cats in a new home for safety.  Want to Adopt me?  If you believe your home is the perfect match for me, please make sure you have first submitted an adoption application and completed your home interview with a SCGRRescue Volunteer. Then, tell my personal representative (aka Rep) more about why we are a great match via email at Luvsallpupsicles99@gmail.com Adoption Fee: $650.00 Please note: We are only able to cover and adopt out to residents of Southern California.   November 15, 2023, 6:04 pm

Story
Shadows bio Sweet boy Shadow is a 1 and a half year old full of life, love, and so much care to give. Rescued from Tijuana, MX from a horrible abusive situation, Shadow still carries a bit of trauma but is so willing to move past it and thrive! He’s fully trained with basic commands and is house broken. He’s great on leash, with other dogs, cats, and LOVES children. He still struggles a bit with separation anxiety and is skittish around men. He will initially hide but he warms up to them eventually. His patience is unwavering and will calmly sit next to you until you are ready to go. For the timespan of 7 months, Shadow went to a nursing facility daily with his companion where he would do morning rounds and greet patients in the facility. He was also a staff favorite and had a staff ID tag, posing as the facility mascot and therapy dog. Shadow has gone through so much and a slower pace life would be more suitable to help him cope with his separation anxiety and development. He still has so much to learn and live. He deserves someone that can dedicate time and patience to him and give him the best life!  ##1861289##
