Story
Meet Rosie! This 1 year old, 70lbs golden retriever/shepherd mix came to us from the Riverside Shelter after being found wandering alone wearing a harness and leash. Her people never came for her, which is wild because she is SUCH a sweet girl!
Rosie already knows sit, down, come, kennel, leave it, and stay. She is super loving and very people-oriented. She appears to be potty trained in her foster home. She's definitely a velcro pup who would prefer to be with her people as much as possible!
She LOVES to play, whether it's fetch, tug, or chewing on Benebones. If she could just play with her people all day, she would be very happy! She's great in the car and loves to go on adventures. She also enjoys playing in water!
Rosie needs a home that has experience with big, energetic, young, working dogs.
This cutie is VERY strong and needs work on a leash because she can get VERY excited when she sees new people and dogs on walks. She will need a furever home that can keep working with her on appropriate leash behavior since she can have some excited/anxious reactivity in those scenarios. She also does have some protective/fearful tendencies that cause her to bark in an attempt to protect her house, so a family that can help her learn she doesn't need to protect them and that they will protect her will be key for this angel.
Rosie is dog selective, and has shown she can be good with neutral male dogs her size or larger with a slow introduction. We would not recommend her to a home with smaller dogs as she may unintentionally hurt a small dog during play (she doesn't fully understand how big she is) or dogs with any sort of reactivity. She is not good with cats.
For families with children, we are only recommending Rosie to homes with dog-savvy, calm kids ages 5 and up due to her size and excitability.
She can be a handful (like most puppies), but overall Rosie is a sweetheart and will make a wonderful addition to a very lucky home.
