Story
Such a beauty! Can’t believe this girl is in rescue. She is just the sweetest! Angel was pretty attention starved before coming to rescue and really needs someone to love her and spend quality time. She sleeps inside on the couch at her foster home and uses the doggy door. She’s very loving and enjoys cuddles. She would benefit from basic behavioral training. She’s very puppyish and is learning not to jump up on people, she will chew if she gets bored (typical puppy behavior but will munch on the dog bed, or couch if bored and you’re gone all day) so recommend crate training if she’s not sleeping in humans bedroom at night. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and loves kids, and all the other dogs. PLEASE NO CALLS OR TEXTS. WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS. APPLY IF INTERESTED; www.saveabowwow.com/rescue/adoption-form Possible Golden Retriever mix: Actual breed(s) are best guesstimate: we believe she’s a golden retriever and could possibly be mixed with either great Pyrenees or Labrador retriever… she may not be a mix at all but can never be sure with rescue dogs. Rescue pays for spay, AKC microchip, vaccines DA2PP/Rabies, Collar with permanent rescue ID tag and AKC microchip tag.

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS IN ORANGE COUNTY, CA ONLY. Will be available starting 9/28/23, but we are accepting applications now. Meet Cali. She is a 5 year old white golden who came to us as a rescue from a backyard breeder where she experienced a life of neglect. As a result, we are asking that you please don’t apply if you are looking for a “typical” golden retriever. Cali came to us 5 days after having 10 puppies, 9 of which died. The other one was picked up by a different rescue that left Cali behind. Cali is in rough shape. She arrived severely underweight with ear infections in both ears, scabs and sores all over her back from a horrible flea infestation, pressure sores on her elbows and ankles from spending years sleeping on concrete, worn down and dirty teeth, and pyometra that required an urgent spay surgery. She is on the mend, but it will take her a while to get her weight up and get to a totally healthy physical state. Emotionally, Cali has been through some serious trauma. She is uncertain, afraid, and hesitant in new situations/with new people. It appears her life was spent outdoors as she has been trying to adjust to being an indoor pup. We will be honest, we don’t know fully who Cali is at this point. She is still pretty shut down, and she probably doesn’t even know who she is when given a safe, loving environment. What we have seen from her so far is that she is sweet once she starts to trust you. She’s good around other dogs as long as food/treats aren’t involved (she’s been starved, so she doesn’t want to share food/treats). She hates to be alone and is very velcro in her foster home. She would do best in a home with people who work from home or are retired and can be with her pretty consistently throughout the day. We have started to see little bits of progress from her in the few short days she’s been with us. Initially afraid of stairs, she’s now going up and down them with much less hesitation. She’s learned how to hop up on the couch and seems to enjoy the comfort those offer. She’s only had one potty accident in the house. She’s eating very well and is getting better with walking on a leash. Cali has a ton of potential, but, as we said, she is not your typical golden retriever at this stage. If you are looking for a golden that has the normal golden temperament, Cali isn’t the pup for you. She is a very special girl who needs a very patient, special home that expects nothing from her and is up for the beautiful process of helping her heal. Whoever is up for the journey is going to be rewarded with an amazing soul dog, and Cali will easily be one of the most wonderful parts of your life. Please fill out an adoption application on our website if you are interested in adopting Cali.

Story
Meet Kendall, a gorgeous young (~2 years old) golden girl that came to us from the Bakersfield shelter. Since she has been in foster care she has been a complete joy! Kendall loves other dogs and human attention. She will even stop in middle of the side walk for every single person and dog we pass just to say hello. She has a lot of energy and definitely needs daily walks and play time. She is a happy, playful girl who loves her toys. When relaxing at home, Kendall wants to be a lap dog and be on the couch cuddling with her people. She couldn’t be sweeter! Kendall would do great with a doggie companion/playmate in her forever home, and an active family that will take her on lots of adventures. If you’re interested in Kendall, please complete our adoption application at www.roversretreat.org. Questions can be directed to nancy@roversretreat.org

Story
Meet Huckleberry, the sweetest guy ever! Huck is a shelter pup, estimated to be about 8 years young. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Huck is always up for an adventure. He loves car rides, long walks and enjoys meeting new people. Huck has a bit of a wonky gait. He has been diagnosed with a luxating patella, which our vet believes he has lived with most of his life, but it doesn’t slow him down a bit. Huck has been the perfect houseguest in foster care. He is house-trained, no counter surfing, no barking, no chewing, no separation anxiety. He loves cuddles and belly rubs and hanging out with his people (unless they are vacuuming, then he will wait outside thank you). Huck would be the perfect addition to a quiet home looking to add some golden love. While Huck loves his walks, he has proven to be reactive to other dogs he sees on leash. For this reason he should really be your one and only. Gentle and sweet, Huck is all about people and loves everyone he meets…dogs, not so much. Huck has not been tested with children but his sweet and gentle nature lends us to believe he will be fine. He does not jump up, paw or beg. He has not been tested with cats. If you’re interested in Huck, please fill out our adoption application. Questions can be directed to Cheryl at rescue.ranger525@gmail.com
