You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Brutus is a 12-year-old senior gentleman who has recently joined rescue and is settling into his foster home after a major life change. His beloved owner sadly passed away, which landed Brutus at the impound through no fault of his own. Despite everything he’s been through, Brutus remains a loving, resilient boy with so much affection left to give. Though he’s a senior, Brutus still has some zest for life and a little pep in his step. He absolutely adores being around his people and soaking up attention. Whether it’s curling up beside you on the couch or gently plopping his head in your lap, Brutus is happiest when he’s close and snuggling. Brutus enjoys sniffing around the yard and going for leisurely walks, taking in the world at his own pace. Brutus can be trusted to free roam the house. While he will go into a kennel if needed, he much prefers having the freedom to move between his favorite spots, usually the couch and a cozy dog bed. He does well with other dogs, cats, and children. While he’s not one for rowdy play, Brutus enjoys their company and fits in easily with a loving household. Incredibly affectionate and fully potty trained, Brutus is an easy, low-maintenance addition to any home. All he wants is a soft place to rest, plenty of pets, and a family to share his golden years with. If you’re looking for a calm, loving senior who will happily keep you company and still surprise you with a little pep from time to time, Brutus may be your perfect match and is so ready to be someone’s best friend.  Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Brutus is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am a 5 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course! I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding.  I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but returned back to rescue because of my sensitivity to frequent visitors. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side - I feel the need to protect my home and yard.  I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially when they enter my home. I take my job of protecting the home seriously and need my humans to prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it. I really respect boundaries and expectations that are presented to me by my humans!  I  graduated a 5 week board and train program  in 2023. I have strong obedience skills and am looking for a home who can hold me accountable to those skills. I know how to walk well on leash, the place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy. I am trained with an eCollar and a prong collar for walking. My future family should be comfortable with those training tools.  I really love to play with toys and other dog friends. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel or in a separate room from other dogs however, as I get older I am much more relaxed. I am also good with cats though have never lived with one.  I really love my kennel. I will sleep there at night, when my foster parents are gone or when there are visitors at the house. I can also be left out to free roam at night though I prefer to sleep next to my foster parents bed or in the hallway so I can keep a watchful eye on my humans.  Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy. I have a pet insurance policy that will be transferred to a potential adopter - they will be expected to continue to keep that in place after adopting me.  Foster Mama Here:Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet new visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here or in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. We would walk his adoptive family through the intro process that he is successful with. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his.  Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener. We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows. Gordy is muzzle trained. He is great at the groomer! Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them.  Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He could thrive in the country as he will bark when he sees humans and dogs walking by the home. ##954057##

Story
About Lola Lola is a joyful, playful girl who brings equal parts fun and heart to every day. She loves zooming around the yard, fetching her favorite toys, and showing off her silly personality. Once she’s decided fetch time is over, she’s back to her signature zoomies, they’re her favorite way to celebrate life! When it’s time to wind down, Lola enjoys cozying up in her room on her dog bed. She sleeps in a gated space with her foster’s other dogs and loves being tucked in with a blanket at bedtime (especially since her foster likes to keep the room chilly). Home Life Lola is crate-trained and walks right in when it’s time, though she’ll give one gentle whine to share her opinion before settling quietly. She does best when crated for up to about four hours at a time and has shown no barking or destructive behavior while crated. She’ll give a friendly bark when the doorbell rings but is easily redirected to a calm “sit” and “stay.” Lola enjoys watching the world go by from the front window or through the yard gate, and she’s impressively quiet while doing it, zero barking at passersby or neighborhood noise! Out & About Lola is a dream travel companion! She rides calmly in the back of the SUV and doesn’t bark or fuss at drive-thrus or people nearby. On walks, she’s made incredible progress, remaining non-reactive to other dogs, people, and squirrels, and learning to relax and enjoy sniffing at her foster’s side. Vet & Social Skills Lola is a star at the vet! She’s had full exams, ear cleanings, and even her anal glands expressed with ease. The staff loves her calm, friendly demeanor. She’s also had a successful playdate with a male Great Dane, showing that she can enjoy canine companionship with the right match. Personality Sweet, smart, and affectionate, Lola is the perfect balance of playful and gentle. She’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh during the day and melt your heart at night. Whoever adopts Lola will be incredibly lucky to welcome this loving, loyal girl into their family. ##2570322##

Story
Hi, I’m Dax, a 4-year-old good boy with a playful spirit and a whole lot of love to give. My foster mom says I sometimes play like I’m two — which just means I still know how to have fun. I love walks and I’m fantastic at the dog park. I genuinely enjoy other dogs and love to play. If a dog is bigger than me, I might give a quick growl at first just to assess the situation, but once I know we’re good, I’m happy to make new friends. After I’ve gotten my outdoor time, I’m a total homebody. Lounging is my specialty. I enjoy the couch (when I’m allowed), but I’m just as content curled up in a comfy dog bed. I don’t need a kennel — I’ve earned the title of “best boy.” When I first arrived at my foster home, I was pretty anxious and barked at almost everyone. I do have a big bark, especially when I’m alerting to someone walking by. But I’ve been gaining confidence every day, and I respond well to guidance — especially when my foster mom whistles (there might be treats involved). I know my commands and I’m happiest when I can follow your lead. I’m very much a shadow dog and love having direction and clear house rules. I’d do best with an assertive, confident owner who helps me feel secure so I don’t feel like I have to be in charge. I don’t need a fenced yard, but I do need regular walks and outings to stretch my legs and keep me happy. I love rawhides, tug toys, and playing with other dogs. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s affectionate, improving every day, and eager to be your right-hand pup, Dax might be your guy. ##2627425##

Story
Meet Pixie! This petite, pretty blue girl lives up to her magical name! At just 2.5 years old, Pixie has already been on quite an adventure—several homes, a stray in the Twin Cities, and finally rescued thanks to her microchip. Now, she’s ready for her happily ever after!  Pixie is sweet as sugar and playful at heart. She LOVES toys, enjoys a good nap on the couch, and is happiest when she has a family to call her own. She’s already house-trained, kennel-trained, and knows some basic obedience—but she’d thrive with a family willing to keep teaching her new tricks. Because Pixie thinks the best treasures are hers to keep, she’d do best as the only pet in the home. That way, she can soak up all the love, snuggles, and attention she deserves.  Now spayed, fully vetted, and full of hope, Pixie is ready to bring joy, laughter, and love into the right forever home. Could that be you?  ##2506654##
