Mater is an approximately 18-month-old Great Dane/Mastiff mix with a goofy personality, a curious nature, and all the grace of a baby giraffe. He's friendly, affectionate, and absolutely loves his people. He's the kind of dog who doesn't just want to be part of your family. He wants to be right there beside you, soaking up every belly rub and bit of attention you're willing to give. Mater is still figuring out this whole indoor dog thing, and he's off to a great start. He hasn't had a single potty accident in his foster home, despite spending most of his life outside. He's still learning his manners, though, and sometimes forgets just how much dog he is. He loves playing with other dogs, but his enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming. Imagine a giant toddler who hasn't quite figured out that not everyone appreciates a full-contact friendship. Mater's ideal family will have a good sense of humor, plenty of patience, and a willingness to help him channel all that big-dog energy. He's still young and has a lot to learn, but he's also got so much love to give. With some consistency, guidance, and a family committed to helping him succeed, this goofy guy will make one lucky family an incredible companion. Most of all, Mater is looking for someone who will love him just as fiercely as he'll love them. Hey, it’s Maui here! My foster mom wrote my bio a couple weeks ago, but I’ve been learning a LOT since then. Let me give you the good scoop... Yes, I jump. It’s because I love her, duh. But apparently, if I keep all four paws on the floor, I get TREATS?! Who would’ve thought no hugs meant snacks? I still forget sometimes, but I’m learning! I’ve also learned not to nibble so much. Surprisingly, treats taste much better than people. Have I mentioned I LOVE treats? All kinds. Yummy. Now, one weakness I’m still working on… socks. I like to eat them. Maybe it’s the sweaty-feet flavor? Mom says they’re dangerous to swallow, so they have to stay out of reach. As she tells foster dad, “If you don’t leave them lying around, he can’t get them.” Don’t worry—we’re still training Dad. He’ll get there. My leash manners? Getting pretty amazing! I figured out that walking nicely earns me—you guessed it—TREEEEATS! I hardly pull anymore. When I do, Mom asks me to sit until I’m calm, and then we keep going. When you’re a guy on a mission, stopping is inconvenient, so I’m learning to focus and keep walking nicely. Mostly. Off duty, I love couch cuddles and sleeping next to my foster mom. Women are usually my favorite, but my foster dad is soft-spoken and doesn’t have a deep voice, so I feel comfortable with him, too. I do best with someone calm, patient, and clear about what they want me to do. Firm directions are okay. Yelling? No thank you. I have feelings, you know. I’m also still learning about sharing. If my foster brother tries to take my toys, I can get vocal and protective of them. I haven’t hurt him, but I need my people to give us space and help manage those moments. I prefer eating in my kennel or a separate room, where I don’t have to worry about another dog coming near my food. Sometimes I get loud because I’m worried I’ll have to compete for it. Mom is helping me learn that my meals will always come and I can eat in peace. Seriously though, have I mentioned the treat lady? Her supply seems unlimited. Excellent household management, if you ask me. I’m potty trained, too! Mom thinks she’s taught me to go on command. What I’ve learned is that a pee earns one treat and a poop earns TWO. We both think we’re training each other, and honestly, it’s working. I haven’t had any regular potty accidents in the house. Okay, there was ONE little excitement tinkle when Mom came home after a long day. I was just soooo happy to see her. Whoops. Love leaked a little. Also, have I mentioned my impeccable recall skills? Call my name and I’ll come right to you. I do not think a non fenced in yard is a deal breaker in my future! I really love my foster family, but Mom says someday I’ll find a forever family of my very own. Someone who will keep teaching me, understand the things I’m still working on, and let me curl up beside them when the day is done. I believe her. My name is Wednesday, and yes, I am just as cute and quirky as my name suggests. I’m a Great Dane; however, I’m told I’m no ordinary Great Dane. I’m what they call a pocket Great Dane because I am only 93lbs and likely won’t get much bigger. I do still firmly believe I’m the perfect size for your lap, though. Personal space? Never heard of her. I’m 2 years old, and I have a whole lot of love to give to the right person. And underneath all these long legs is a goofy, loving girl who really just wants to be with her people. Once you’re one of my people, I want to be wherever you are. Sitting on the couch? I’m coming. Going to another room for 30 seconds? Seems suspicious, but I’ll probably follow you. Working from home? Perfect; I happen to have extensive experience as a work-from-home supervisor. A Few Important Wednesday Facts 1. First, I take bedtime very seriously. I sleep in my kennel at night and genuinely do well there, but there is one requirement: please cover me with my blanket. Yes, physically tuck me in; I like to be cozy! 2. If you’re the type of person who wants an enormous dog cuddling with you in bed, though, I am also VERY willing to discuss alternative sleeping arrangements. I will happily snuggle up with you and take my job as a giant heated blanket extremely seriously. 3. I also get the zoomies. Like BIG zoomies! One minute, I am flying around like someone just informed me that I’m actually a greyhound. Five minutes later? Absolutely exhausted. Must sleep immediately. 4. I love my toys, being with my humans, getting attention, cuddling, being cozy, and generally participating in whatever my family is doing. I'm a big personality in an even bigger body, and life with me definitely isn't boring. The Home I’m Looking For As much as my family loves talking about all of my silly qualities, they also want to be completely honest about the things I need. My dream family would have experience with dogs, and bonus points if you know and love Great Danes or other giant breeds! I need someone who understands that loving me also means continuing to work with me, respecting my boundaries, and helping me be the best version of myself. I do have a few things I need my future family to understand about me. Sometimes I have a hard time sharing my space and resources with other dogs. I’ve shown resource-guarding and territorial behaviors with the dog I currently live with. Because my family loves me very much and wants me to be successful, they think I would be happiest as the only dog in my new home. Honestly, being the center of attention sounds pretty good to me anyway! I LOVE children, but sometimes forget how big I am. If our family has children, please be patient as I learn to live with my littlest friends! I will thrive in an environment with people who understand my boundaries and can give me structure. Right now, I get to stay home with Mom all day, and if I were making the rules, I’d really love for that to continue in my new home. I love having my person around, even if we’re just hanging out doing our own things. That doesn’t mean you can never leave me, though! I’m kennel trained and actually sleep in my kennel every night. If I need to be kenneled during the workday, I can do that too, but I’ll need some good exercise and attention before you leave and again around lunchtime. A giant girl has to stretch her legs! And there’s a pretty good reason my family recommends kenneling me when nobody is home… Sometimes I make questionable decisions when I’m bored. I’m young, smart, curious, and occasionally a little mischievous. Leaving me unsupervised with too much freedom can result in me finding my own entertainment, and apparently humans don’t always appreciate my creative choices. So, until we know I can be trusted, my kennel is the safest place for me when I’m home alone. I’ll Bring My Stuff! Don't worry, I'm not showing up empty-pawed. My family wants my transition to be as comfortable as possible, so I’ll be bringing a bunch of familiar things with me, including my kennel, bed, blanket, Vault food container, one bag of my current food, my vitamins, and some of my favorite toys. That means I’ll have familiar smells, familiar food, my favorite things, and, most importantly, the blanket you are now contractually obligated to cover me with at bedtime. My Family Is Going to Be Picky My current family isn't looking for just anywhere for me to go. They love me tremendously, so they're going to be pretty picky about who gets to be my next family (especially Mom, if I’m being honest with you). You'll need to fill out an application, provide references, share a little about where I'll be living, and come meet me at least twice. Basically, we're going to date before we make things official! And there's one really important promise you'll have to make: if life ever changes and you can't keep me, you’ll reach out to my first family. Always. I will never be surrendered to a shelter, given away, sold, or passed along to someone else. I know I'm not the right dog for every home. I need someone who understands that sometimes the best dogs aren't necessarily the easiest dogs. I need structure. I need someone willing to understand my boundaries. I need exercise and stimulation so I don't start brainstorming unauthorized home-improvement projects. I need my blanket tucked around me when I sleep, obviously. But in return? You get me! A giant, goofy, blanket-loving, zoomie-having, professional cuddler who will happily spend her days hanging out with you and then act like we've been separated for six years when you come back from checking the mail. My family loves me enough to wait for the right person. So if you're looking for a giant best friend, have room in your home and your heart for a girl like me, I'd really love to meet you. This cat-loving Great Dane mix has white twinkle toes and a lover’s soul through and through. River is on his way to us from Louisiana, where there are far too many dogs and very few humans who care. The dogs there are just trying to survive each day, with only the rescuers to look out for them. River has been waiting in rescue for his forever home for far too long, and he is exactly the kind of dog UDR strives to help. When he arrives, River will be fostered in a home with other Danes, so he’ll have friends to enjoy and keep him company. He is crate and house trained, rock solid, and has truly been there, done that. He will be going through heartworm treatment once he is with us, but we don’t want him to wait any longer. We would love to find his happily ever after soon, even while he is in treatment. River has spent his life far to long waiting and we know moving him to our rescue was the right thing for him. Meet Coco! ❤️ Coco is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves nothing more than being with her people. She’s a wonderfully content companion who is happy to go for a walk, run around the backyard, or simply hang out at home. She’s quiet and well-behaved in the house, doesn’t chew on things, and knows when it’s time to settle in for the night. Coco definitely knows how to ask for attention! She may jump up for a hug or hop into your lap before rolling over for her favorite belly rubs. She’s working on keeping all four paws on the floor when saying hello, but her enthusiasm is pretty adorable. She loves playing in the backyard and will happily chase a toy. She’s even learned the “return” part of fetch, so she’s making great progress on becoming a fetching pro! Coco enjoys playing with other dogs and can be a fun companion, although she can get a little jealous when sharing attention. Sometimes her people just need to make sure everyone gets their fair share of pets! She could also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only. Coco is house-trained, knows her basic commands, and is working on her “stay.” She also settles beautifully in her crate and has made great progress with feeling comfortable there. Coco can be a little unsure of some men when she first meets them and may give a small growl when she’s nervous. She does best with a slow, low-pressure introduction—having a new person sit down and let her approach on her own terms helps her feel much more comfortable. Once Coco decides you’re okay, though, you’ll discover the absolute best girl: affectionate, loving, and ready to soak up all the attention she can get. Coco is a wonderful companion who simply wants to be near her people. Give her a little patience when meeting new people, plenty of belly rubs, and a spot by your side, and Coco will happily show you what a special girl she is. 💕

Meet Phoebe! 🐾💗 If you’ve ever wished for a loving companion who doubles as your personal shadow and full-time cuddle buddy, Phoebe might just be your girl! This sweet pup loves being wherever her people are and keeping an eye on whatever they happen to be doing. Cooking dinner? She’s supervising. Watching a movie? She’s snuggling. Getting up to grab something? Don’t mind her, she’ll be coming along, too! Phoebe may be a big girl, but she seems to have absolutely no idea that she isn’t a tiny lap cat. Her favorite place to be is right on top of her person, soaking up the cuddles and enjoying some quality couch time. She’s a laid-back kind of gal who appreciates the finer things in life, like cozy naps, being close to her favorite humans, and occasionally getting the zoomies around the house! Although Phoebe is more of a lounge-on-the-couch kind of girl, she does have a playful side. She’ll happily bring you a toy for a little game of fetch, giving you a handful of throws before deciding she’s had enough excitement and it’s time for another nap. Honestly, she might have the perfect balance figured out: a little playtime, a lot of snuggles, and plenty of beauty sleep! Phoebe has been friendly with new adult visitors, both men and women, although she may greet them with some big, loud barks at first. She can also be a little opinionated when she doesn’t feel like doing something, sometimes expressing her thoughts with a well-timed paw. This girl knows what she wants, and she isn’t afraid to let you know! Her future family can continue helping her build confidence and learn that good things happen when she cooperates. When it comes to other animals, Phoebe will need some thoughtful introductions and management. She generally seems uninterested in other dogs, but she has shown some food-related guarding behavior, including low growling when food is involved. She has also growled when seeing her foster family's cat, even from a distance. Because of this, a home without cats may be the best fit unless an experienced adopter can safely manage a carefully planned introduction. Any interactions with other pets should be handled thoughtfully, with appropriate separation around food and close supervision. Phoebe is fully house-trained, which is a wonderful bonus! She knows the cue “sit,” although whether she chooses to demonstrate that particular skill may depend on her mood. We’re working on helping her feel more comfortable going into her kennel and getting into the car. While she can settle down for a quiet nap in her kennel, entering it can make her nervous. Car rides are especially intimidating right now, so her foster family is taking things slowly and helping her learn that getting into a vehicle doesn’t have to be scary. She’s also making progress with leash training, which will continue to be an important part of her journey. At the end of the day, Phoebe is a loving, affectionate girl who simply wants to be near her people. She doesn’t need endless adventures or a packed schedule to be happy; a cozy couch, a few playful moments, and someone to love are pretty high on her wish list. She’ll be your shadow, your movie-night snuggle buddy, and the big cuddlebug who somehow manages to take up the entire couch while making you feel like the luckiest person in the world. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will follow you from room to room and happily curl up with you at the end of the day, Phoebe is ready to find her person. Just remember: when you adopt Phoebe, you’re not just getting a dog.
