Story

Jack is a loveable guy. He sometimes thinks he is a lap dog. Jack is great with older kids and gentle people. Unfortunately, he is reactive to other dogs and babies/small children when in close proximity. He is pretty good at ignoring them if they ignore him. He loves to play outside, he loves to run, and he loves being loved. Jack is pretty good on a leash and knows some basic commands. Due to our small living space, limited yard, and the neighbor aggressive dog, we have made the painful decision to rehome him. This other dog is the reason Jack is scared, as the other dog got loose and attacked Jack three different occasions within a 6 week time span during when Jack was 1. He lost half an ear from these attacks. This is also a huge reason why we have found it difficult to find a groomer that can tend to his needs appropriately and within budget. Please know we love Jack and want him to be able to thrive in a better environment. One that we arent able to provide now.

If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/ Winston is a 3-4 month old male Great Pyrenees mix who weighs in at 28 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $550. If you are still interested, please read more below. Winston is a wonderful dog. Immediately upon entering the foster home, he has proven to be very good and patient with children. He doesn’t know his own size, and he is a good sized pup! He has already interacted well with children, and other dogs at the vet. He is a little nervous about car rides but learns to settle down. In the house he has a gated off area that he willingly goes in to eat, decompress, etc. He is very calm, curious, and playful. He loves the snow. His foster is currently working on potty training. He is teething and enjoys chewing on what he’s given. According to the vet, he could grow to be around 90 pounds, but is already proving to be a very gentle, happy boy with a beautiful temperament. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and will be available after being neutered December 15th. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. Dexter is a handsome young Great Pyrenees mix who came to us as an owner surrender when his family's landlord wouldn't allow dogs and they no longer had the time to take care of him. Now this big sweetheart is ready for a new beginning and a family who loves him for his joyful spirit! Dexter is incredibly friendly with people of all ages, but due to his larger size and enthusiastic greetings, we recommend a home with older kids who won't be easily toppled by a happy tail wag and a full-body wiggle. Sunny was initially raised as a puppy through a Great Pyrenees rescue group. We adopted him when he was about 10 weeks old. He has been raised in a house with 3 teenagers and 1 other dog for 18 months. He has been socialized with other dogs regularly at a local doggie daycare. He is very playful and intelligent; however, we are no longer in a position where we can take care of him. We have worked with a trainer, but lately he has become aggressive. He is on a daily anti-depressant. He would do well in a home where he can have space to run and can be stimulated regularly. He loves to play and be around other dogs.
