Story
Need a fluffy shadow?! Take a look at this handsome boy Xerxes. This sheepdog loves attention, slow walks, cuddles, food, and naps (and more naps)! His favorite treats are peanut butter, yogurt, and liverwurst. And our favorite thing about him is how adorably awkward he can be when he is exploring something new. All ears, and paws! Xerxes is very relaxed, but is happy to see you and play outside. He will play with toys on occasion, but likes hard chew toys the best. He needs some exercise and enjoys walks, but is often content to run in the yard and chill on the deck. Xerxes is friendly and interested in other dogs and takes cues on behavior from them. He is pretty good at respecting boundaries of other animals and generally takes a passive role in play. He can be shy of other dogs if they are more assertive in an aggressive or barking manner, but he does not engage. Xerxes came from a home with lots of dogs and looks to his foster dog siblings to help him understand how to handle new things so he’d enjoy a dog friend (currently also lives with a cat and is pretty good with his manners). Xerxes does well meeting other dogs, but can be shy and is typically pretty passive until he is comfortable with them. He can get scared of other dogs barking at him, but is pretty good about looking for reassurance from his people or one of his foster siblings. Xerxes is very relaxed, but is happy to see you and play outside. He will play with toys on occasion, but likes hard chew toys the best. He needs some exercise and enjoys walks, but is often content to run in the yard and chill on the deck. He would love a calm and patient family that is willing to set up a routine for him while also letting him explore his new home at his own pace. Xerxes has gained some confidence in his foster home and knows some cues (sit, touch, down, paw, leave it (generally), wait/stay (some of the time)), and is housetrained, but he can be shy to warm up and needs time to transition into new experiences or places. But, really can you blame him for that? Finding a new home can be hard on any soul, let alone a sweet sensitive one. But don’t let his shyness fool you. As you can see in the video, he’s a sweetheart who just wants to be loved. Xerxes prefers to be gated in a part of the house while you are away as opposed to crated, and is a respectful housemate to animals, home, and humans alike. Think you might be this sweet and goofy fluff ball’s forever family? Fill out an app! Xerxes is a 1.5yr old Polish Tatra Shepherd that weighs about 80lbs. The adoption donation for Xerxes is $300. This fee helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Xerxes, please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team members. September 24, 2023, 1:43 am
