Weighing around 70 lbs, he was found as a stray in Boone County, severely matted and in need of care—likely on his own for quite some time. He’s since been shaved and is slowly regaining his dignity and grace. 🧬 True to His Pyrenees Nature: River embodies the classic traits of the Great Pyrenees: calm, sensitive, and deeply loyal. He’s good with other dogs and even cats, and while he enjoys human companionship, he’s shy and cautious—especially around new experiences. He flinches when someone reaches to pat his head, a heartbreaking sign that he may have endured past abuse. 🏡 Ideal Home for River: River will thrive in a home that understands the Pyrenees temperament: - A secure, fenced yard where he can roam and feel safe - A family with experience in the breed or large, sensitive dogs - A calm environment with older children (12+) or adults only - A canine companion would be a welcome friend River is housebroken and crate trained, though he prefers quiet freedom and gentle routines. Meet Nellie Nellie, a Great Pyrenees, joined BAARK when her owner was no longer able to care for himself, much less her. As such, she was in pretty rough physical condition when she was surrendered, but clearly had received plenty of attention and love. Nellie is estimated to be 7-8 years old and weighs about 80 lbs. When meeting new people, Nellie is a little shy at first. We believe that this is because she had very little exposure to new people when with her previous owner. However, in her foster home, with patience and, in following the lead of her new canine friends, Nellie has really blossomed. She now gives kisses and lots of tail wags when her foster mom and dad get home from work. She gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. In typical Great Pyr fashion, she loves patrolling the fence line and she is especially in tune to large birds flying overhead. Her foster family appreciates her level of alert, as Nellie watches over her much smaller foster brother and sisters in the home. Nellie is housebroken and is just fine being un-crated at home by herself. Nellie joined our rescue organization back in June. She is just becoming available for adoption as she has a long recovery from a mass removal on her paw pad (benign). She has 3 toes on that paw but gets around just fine. Nellie is in overall great health. She’s spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. Frosty 1 year old Female Great Pyrenees Spayed already Housebroken and crate trained Good with other dogs Good with cats Not sure about kids...just say over 12 years old. Fenced yard required. No apartment or condo. Frosty joined BAARK along with her sister, having been found in Boone County. We are told that the girls had been living in a barn stall…so of course had had no experience with wearing of a collar, leash walking, housebreaking, and just living in a house. But all that has changed…for the better. While Frosty is a growing puppy (she’s just over a year old), she is making plenty of progress as she evolves into the best version of herself!! Frosty is very sweet, and very shy. She’s calm and sometimes timid, as well as submissive. She enjoys being with other dogs and is good with cats too! Frosty is doing very well with housebreaking and crate training, especially when motivated by treats!! An ideal home for Frosty has a secure, large fenced yard (one she can not climb over!), and another dog, to teach her the ropes and help build her confidence! A patient family willing to provide Frosty the daily attention, affection, and training she deserves is important. And, Great Pyrenees is definitely a plus when considering a forever home for Frosty.
