"Great Pyrenees are generally excellent family dogs, known as "gentle giants" that are loyal, calm, and protective of children, often viewing them as a flock to guard. They are patient and affectionate but require consistent training due to an independent nature and need secure fencing because of a natural urge to roam". That pretty much sums me up! Good thing CDR provides free training as part of the adoption fee! And lets not forget my amazing, flowing coat! It's a thick double coat that sheds year-round and requires regular brushing to avoid mats and to keep me always looking my best! And I will be a BIG dog when I am done growing up! Apollo is great with dogs & loves people. He's a typical pyr who likes to play but is just as content being a couch potato. Apollo requires a tall, secure wood fence. He sails over a 4 ft fence & climbs anything taller if its a wire fence. He's very intent on seeing what's on the other side or visiting the other side :) You can't blame him, he is named after the Greek God for healing or all the spaceships we have sent into space??? Meet Nellie Nellie, a Great Pyrenees, joined BAARK when her owner was no longer able to care for himself, much less her. As such, she was in pretty rough physical condition when she was surrendered, but clearly had received plenty of attention and love. Nellie is estimated to be 7-8 years old and weighs about 80 lbs. When meeting new people, Nellie is a little shy at first. We believe that this is because she had very little exposure to new people when with her previous owner. However, in her foster home, with patience and, in following the lead of her new canine friends, Nellie has really blossomed. She now gives kisses and lots of tail wags when her foster mom and dad get home from work. She gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. In typical Great Pyr fashion, she loves patrolling the fence line and she is especially in tune to large birds flying overhead. Her foster family appreciates her level of alert, as Nellie watches over her much smaller foster brother and sisters in the home. Nellie is housebroken and is just fine being un-crated at home by herself. Nellie joined our rescue organization back in June. She is just becoming available for adoption as she has a long recovery from a mass removal on her paw pad (benign). She has 3 toes on that paw but gets around just fine. Nellie is in overall great health. She’s spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. Yukon Ready for a loyal companion who will grow up by your side? Meet Yukon! Yukon is a 3-month-old suspected Great Pyrenees mix (maybe with a little Golden Retriever in therewho knows!). What we do know is that he is an incredibly soft-tempered, sweet boy with a gentle soul. He can be a tiny bit shy at first, but he makes up for it with a whole lot of love. Yukon is a calm puppy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys meeting people. Hes not mouthy or overly rambunctious like some puppies. Aside from the occasional accident while he continues learning, hes a very well-behaved little guy. Hes doing great learning to walk on a leash. Yukon doesnt pull, but he sometimes needs a little encouragement as he takes in the big world around him. He may pause to watch cars or get slightly spooked if a big dog starts barking, but he approaches everything with the most soulful, thoughtful expression. Yukon is comfortable in a crate, though like any young puppy he shouldnt be left in one all day. We expect Yukon to grow into a big, beautiful boylikely around 80 pounds full grown. We would love to find him a home that will gently help his confidence blossom while appreciating his naturally calm, sweet, and sensitive personality. Buddy is a one and a half year old Great Pyrenees mix. He came from a farm where he was allowed to roam freely. He was surrendered to FOCCAS because his humans could no longer care for him due to health problems. Buddy is looking for someone to put some time into training him in basic commands and house manners and take him on walks. FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. The adoption fee Includes Age-Appropriate Vaccinations (DA2PPV, Bordetella, Rabies), Deworming, Spay/Neuter, Microchip, Flea/Tick/Heartworm Prevention, and Sheltering.
