Story

Meet Nellie Nellie, a Great Pyrenees, joined BAARK when her owner was no longer able to care for himself, much less her. As such, she was in pretty rough physical condition when she was surrendered, but clearly had received plenty of attention and love. Nellie is estimated to be 7-8 years old and weighs about 80 lbs. When meeting new people, Nellie is a little shy at first. We believe that this is because she had very little exposure to new people when with her previous owner. However, in her foster home, with patience and, in following the lead of her new canine friends, Nellie has really blossomed. She now gives kisses and lots of tail wags when her foster mom and dad get home from work. She gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. In typical Great Pyr fashion, she loves patrolling the fence line and she is especially in tune to large birds flying overhead. Her foster family appreciates her level of alert, as Nellie watches over her much smaller foster brother and sisters in the home. Nellie is housebroken and is just fine being un-crated at home by herself. Nellie joined our rescue organization back in June. She is just becoming available for adoption as she has a long recovery from a mass removal on her paw pad (benign). She has 3 toes on that paw but gets around just fine. Nellie is in overall great health. She’s spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. I am a 6-month-old female currently weighing 32 pounds. My mom, Katrina, had a DNA test done and it showed that she is mostly Cattle Dog, Great Pyrenees and Shepherd. So I guess that’s what I am mostly too. Do you like the spots on my ears? Most people tell me how cute they are. They also like that I have one ear up and one ear down.I enjoy when people pay attention to me when we go on walks. Did I mention that for a puppy I walk really good on a leash? Well, I do and my foster mom tells me how good of a walker I am. I am also learning a few words such as sit, off, leave it, inside, outside and easy. I think she calls them commands. My house breaking is coming right along. It was delayed because it was such a cold winter.Sometimes when people are walking past the house with their dog, they stop and I’m able to play with them in the backyard. Foster mom has been throwing a toy in the backyard, and I chase it then I bring it back to her. I really enjoy the time with my foster mom, but she keeps telling me that one day I will have a family of my own. I might bark at first, but when I realize you are a friend, I want all the pets and attention you can give me.I currently live with two female dogs and get along very well with them. I have also met other dogs with no issues. I haven’t met any cats, so I don’t know how I feel about them. I like all toys, especially the ones that I can pull all the stuffing out of. I even know how to play fetch. I like going for rides in the car. I pull a little on the leash, but we can work on that. I know way too many commands to list. Foster mom says I am very smart and easy to train.I would like to find a home that already has a canine companion for me to play with. Although I don’t live with children in my foster home, I would be very good with them. We could play and they can teach me things. Meet Roo, a 3–4-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix puppy who already weighs in at around 30 pounds and is expected to grow into a very big girl. True to her kangaroo-inspired name, Roo`s zoomies involve bouncing, hopping, and springing around the yard like she`s training for the Outback Olympics! With her striking black mask, gorgeous looks, and sweet personality, she turns heads everywhere she goes and she absolutely loves the attention.Roo is a friendly, easygoing pup who gets along wonderfully with people, children, other dogs, and even cats (though she`s still not quite sure what to make of them). She loves ear scratches, splashing through puddles, frozen peanut butter Kongs, Nylabones, and chasing her humans around the yard. While she can be a little timid in new outdoor situations, her confidence is growing every day, and her food motivation makes her eager to learn.Like any young puppy, Roo is still working on potty training and believes almost everything is a chew toy, but she`s fantastic in her crate and has all the makings of an incredible companion. Because she`s destined to be a very large dog, Roo would love a home with a fenced yard and would thrive with a friendly resident dog who can help show her the ropes.
