Story
Meet Colt! Colt was transferred to us by another shelter due to the recent flooding. While are are still getting to know Colt, it took him no time at all to show off his big personality! Colt is an adventurous pup ready to take on the world. He is energetic and playful, so an active home would suit him best. Colt's previous shelter described him as a loyal and protective companion, a good boy that just needs a family to devote himself to! Colt has been selective with his canine companions in the shelter, so if you have other animals in your home we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Colt home. If you are interested in meeting Colt, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Lucky Age: 3 yrs | Weight: 55 lbs | Breed: Pomsky (Pomeranian/Husky Mix) Status: Neutered, Fully Vaccinated, Up-to-Date on Preventatives Lucky is a vibrant, healthy, and loyal companion who has been a cherished member of his family since he was just six weeks old. Due to worsening allergies in the home and an unavoidable change in work schedules, Lucky is looking for a foster (or forever) home where he can trade his crate for more "zoomie" time and companionship. 🌟 Personality & Temperament Lucky is the perfect blend of his breeds: independent, curious, and deeply affectionate. He is a "people dog" who has never shown aggression toward humans or other animals. Vocal & Communicative: In true Husky fashion, Lucky likes to talk! He may give a low growl when it’s time to go into his crate—not out of aggression, but as a "vocal protest" because he’d much rather stay out and play with you. Everyone’s Friend: Lucky is great with other dogs, we are unsure how he does with children and cats. Alert & Attentive: He takes his job as a doorbell notifier seriously and will bark at strangers or footsteps at the door, though household sounds like the vacuum don't phase him. A Little Storm-Shy: While he’s fine indoors during bad weather, loud environmental noises like thunderstorms or large garbage trucks can make him anxious while on walks. 🏡 Life at Home Lucky is a "good boy" when it comes to house manners. He is house-trained and is not destructive when left alone. Crate Profile: He is fully crate-trained and sleeps there comfortably at night (usually starting around 8:00 PM). He currently spends 6–8 hours in his crate during the workday, but he is looking for a home where he can have more freedom and activity. Energy Level: High! Lucky loves his fenced backyard and enjoys being active. He is manageable on a leash but is always ready for an adventure. Training: He’s a smart pup who already knows Sit, Hug, High-Five, and “Let’s go outside.” 🏥 Health & Wellness Lucky is a healthy boy with no known allergies or chronic conditions. Monthly Maintenance: He stays protected with monthly Simparica trio (flea/tick/heartworm). Veterinary Records: All records are up-to-date and available for his new caregivers. 🛌 Ideal Foster Match Lucky would thrive in a home where: Someone is home more often or has a shorter workday. There is a fenced yard for him to burn off his Pomsky energy. The family enjoys an active lifestyle and can continue his basic training. A Note from the Family: "This was not an easy decision. Our goal is simply to find a home that can give Lucky the time, exercise, and attention that fits his wonderful personality. He has been loved since day one, and we want to see him flourish."

Story
Uhura (sounds like oo-HOO-rah, like the "Star Trek" character) is a petite husky (43 pounds) who was found on a rural highway bordering Indiana and Ohio earlier this summer. In her distress, she approached a kind couple's home for food and comfort, and our volunteer in the area got her safe and is fostering her so Uhura would not have to go to the shelter. We learned that Uhura had been someone's dog, had been rehomed, and, we suspect, dumped on this rural highway. We also learned that she is about 6 years old, was a beloved family member to a home with young children, and had several litters of puppies of her own. She is a mellow, sweet girl who gets along with cats. She has not been around other dogs in our care, but there is no reason to think that she would not be good with them, too. Another dog in the home is not necessary, though. Uhura would be fine as the only dog. Uhura is an easy going pup; however, she is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks and will try to bust out of her crate or gated area. Ideally, she would be in a home where her human is around a lot for companionship. And she's good company! Uhura is spayed (no more litters!), up to date on her vaccines, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and crate- and house-trained. She walks pretty well on a leash, too. For utmost safety, we'd strongly prefer this beauty to have a physically fenced yard where there is no chance she's ever back on a rural highway, scared and alone and at risk. Uhura is available for adoption in Ohio to residents of Ohio. We would consider residents of eastern Indiana in Uhura's case, since she is close to the Indiana line. Story
WoofflesMaleAge: 1 yearWeight: 46 lbsBreed: German Shepherd/Husky Hi, I’m Wooffles! I’m a silly, loving guy looking for my best friend. I have the handsome face of a German Shepherd, the goofiness of a Husky, and I’m a world-class cuddler. I’m great with dogs and cats and love playing with both. I haven’t been around a lot of kids, but I’ve loved the attention from the ones I’ve met. I can be a little shy with new people at first, but I warm up quickly and absolutely LOVE attention. I’m house trained and crate trained and should be crated when left alone. I love treats, squeaky toys, car rides, and especially snuggling up with my human at the end of the day. Right now, I’m finishing treatment for heartworms and I’ll need to stay on activity restriction until about mid-September while I recover. Because I’ve had to take it easy, I haven’t had much practice with walks yet, so I may need a little leash training and socialization once I’m cleared. I’m a smart boy, though, and I think I’ll catch on quickly. Once I get the all-clear, I’ll be SO excited to play with other pups, go for walks, run around, and become someone’s adventure buddy. I could easily see myself becoming the perfect patio pup for those beautiful autumn days. Until then, I’m perfectly happy taking car rides with my ears flopping in the wind, having silly moments with my foster siblings, and cuddling with my people. Could I be your new best friend?  Interested in meeting Wooffles? Apply to adopt him at www.causeforcanines.org. Adoption fee: $350 Must be an Ohio resident and 23 or older. Children in the home must be age 5 or older. ##2734605##

Story
RCHS does not conduct DNA tests on dogs who enter our facility therefore we are unable to guarantee breed or breed mix. Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.
