MEET SOONJA!   Name: Soonja Age: 1 year old Sex: Female, spayed Breed: Jindo Mix Color: Brown & White Weight: 15.8 kg (35 lbs) Height: 46 cm (18 in) at the shoulder   Her Story   Soonja had been living in the countryside as a farm dog since she was only three months old. After seeing some of the dogs around her pass away, a local rescuer who had been caring for them decided to rescue Soonja and her brother, Soondol, together.   Since then, Soonja has been safely cared for and is now ready to find her forever family.   With People   Soonja can be a little shy when meeting new people, but treats are a quick way to her heart! She’ll take treats from strangers and usually warms up quickly enough to allow pets.   Once she feels comfortable, her affectionate side comes out—she’ll approach you asking for attention and even show you her belly when she really trusts you.   She has experience meeting children under 13 and showed little concern around them. She has also allowed a child she had just met to pet her. She can be picked up comfortably with an arm supporting her belly.   With Other Dogs   Soonja politely approaches unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but she isn’t particularly interested in actively playing with them. She’s definitely more of an introvert!   She is gentle and easygoing and generally gets along well with other dogs, especially those around her size or smaller. If another dog bothers or provokes her, she usually chooses to move away. If they continue pestering her, though, she knows how to clearly let them know she’s had enough.   With Cats   Her reaction to cats has not yet been observed. A cat test can be arranged upon request.   Energy Level   Soonja has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor activities, but afterward she settles down nicely and is happy relaxing in her own space, playing with her toys, or taking a good nap.   On Walks   Soonja has plenty of walking experience. She follows her handler well and walks nicely without pulling.   She can occasionally be startled by loud dump trucks, buses, or similar noises. She may pause and look a little unsure, but she does not try to bolt or struggle to escape.   At Home & Other Behaviors   Soonja does not guard food from people. She may growl if another dog approaches her while she is eating, so she should be given her own space during meals. She can share treats peacefully with other dogs.   She is generally very quiet and rarely barks. Now he’s ready to find his forever family.   Personality & Social Skills   Soondol is an incredibly friendly, affectionate boy who absolutely loves people. He happily approaches both familiar faces and complete strangers, rubbing against them for attention and affection. He’s comfortable with men and is also wonderful with children under 13.   He enjoys being touched and handled, can be picked up, and will even show his belly to people he has just met! When he sees people passing by, he’s usually curious and eager to say hello and get some love.   With Other Dogs   Soondol is just as social with dogs as he is with people. He happily approaches unfamiliar dogs to say hello and invite them to play.   He’s still young and sometimes gets a little too enthusiastic, asking almost every dog he meets to play without always reading the room first. If another dog tells him “no,” he’ll back off—but he may forget a few minutes later and try asking again!   He generally does especially well with dogs around his size or smaller.   Cats & Small Animals   Soondol hasn’t been observed around cats yet, so his response to them is unknown. He does show interest in birds and may try to chase them.   Energy Level   Soondol has a moderate energy level. He enjoys being outdoors and loves his walks and playtime, but after getting enough exercise, he settles down nicely and is happy to relax and sleep.   Regular walks and outdoor activity will help him stay happy and content at home.   Walks   Soondol has plenty of walking experience and generally follows his handler well without pulling much on leash. He isn’t particularly sensitive to cars or everyday outdoor noises.   He is, however, very curious about everything around him, so he can sometimes get distracted looking at people, objects, and whatever else catches his attention along the way.   At Home   Soondol does not show food guarding toward people or other dogs.   Because he loves people but currently doesn’t get to spend as much time with them as he would like, he may bark or whine for attention when he sees someone. We expect this to improve as he settles into a home where he receives more regular companionship and attention.   He stays calm when transported in a kennel and is currently accustomed to going potty outdoors.   Soondol is a cheerful, affectionate, social young dog who simply loves being part of the action. He was our family and the only home we had ever known. Sadly, he passed away after struggling with a chronic illness, and just like that, we suddenly lost both our person and our home. For a long time, we had been living in difficult conditions without even proper ventilation. After our owner passed away, there was no one left to care for us, and eventually we were brought to the shelter. Everything we knew changed so suddenly, and we couldn’t understand why our familiar person and home were gone. Despite everything we’ve been through, we’ve now been given the chance to start over. We’re ready to leave those difficult days behind and find loving forever families where we can finally experience the comfort, stability, and care every dog deserves. All we’re missing now is a safe place to call home again.   MY HEALTH All vaccinations up-to-date Healthy with no known health issues Some of my front teeth are missing but I have no issues eating and living my normal life   MY PERSONALITY Despite not having much socialization in my past, I open up surprisingly quickly. Tasty treats are definitely the way to my heart and make it much easier for me to feel comfortable around new people. I’m also even smaller and cuter in person! During my profile photoshoot, it didn’t take long before I was happily following the volunteers and staff around, hoping they might have another treat waiting for me. I have so much potential and am eager to learn. With patience, positive experiences, and plenty of encouragement, I’m ready to continue building my confidence and discovering just how wonderful life with a loving family can be.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS · With People: I can be a little shy when we first meet, but it doesn’t take me long to warm up. During my profile photoshoot, it only took about 30 minutes before I felt completely comfortable and was happily leaning in for pets and snuggles. I’m comfortable being picked up once I trust you, but sudden movements or unexpected pickups can startle me and make me want to run away. A gentle approach and a little bonding time first will help me feel safe and secure. Once I’m comfortable, I love being close to my people. If you’re sitting down, don’t be surprised if I come over and climb right into your lap for some extra cuddles and affection. Give me a little patience, a few treats, and some gentle affection, and you’ll quickly see just how sweet and cuddly I can be. · With Dogs: I enjoy greeting new dogs, but I don’t usually jump straight into play. I prefer taking things at my own pace and am often happy doing my own thing. I generally get along best with dogs who have a similar size and energy level and respect my space. I’m especially close to my sibling, Misong, since we’ve spent our whole lives together. I depend on Misong quite a bit for comfort and reassurance, especially when I’m feeling unsure. Having my sibling nearby helps me feel safe and gives me confidence as I adjust to new situations. · With Cats: My reaction to cats is unknown.   ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level. I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring, and having fun, but once I’ve had my activity and excitement, I’m more than happy to come inside and relax comfortably indoors.   TRAINING & HABITS I’m still working on perfecting my leash manners and may pull at times, but overall I follow my handler’s lead nicely. I also have great manners around food and don’t guard my meals or treats from either people or other dogs. I may bark occasionally, but I settle down quickly and know how to rest calmly in my kennel. I can even jump in and out of the car all by myself. Don’t underestimate these short little legs! For potty habits, I currently go both indoors using pee pads and outdoors. With a consistent routine in my forever home, I should continue adjusting nicely.   MY IDEAL HOME I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself.
