Story
Ellie is a loving and amazing family dog. Great with children, other dogs, farm animals, etc. we simply had to downsize our home and between having young children and another on the way, with work and kids schedules, we do not feel as if she is living the life she deserves. She is well mannered, well trained and extremely loveable. We are hoping she can find a home who has more time to love her and space for her to run. She loves walks and loves to play fetch.

*PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org * Drake is loving life in his foster home, but now it’s time for him to find his furever family… We rescued Drake back in 2020. He is a 7 year old pup now and we guess he is a labradoodle mix. He was adopted a few years ago but recently, instead of contacting us to surrender the Drake back to us when they were unable to keep him, the adopter brought him to the shelter. Not only did they bring him to the shelter, they told the shelter to EUTHANIZE HIM!! Why? Because he is reactive/ doesn’t get along with small dogs, something they knew when they adopted him. Thankfully we were notified and able to get him back into our care quickly. He has been doing so well in foster and deserves to finally find the right people. Drake is a big boy (100+ pounds, but does need to lose some weight) and loves cuddles. He greatly enjoys long walks and car rides. He is super smart and food motivated. Drake is a go with the flow dude who just wants people to love. He would be best as the only animal in the home and with people committed to managing his reactivity. He is very easy to redirect with treats and will thrive with the right people. Drake is currently being fostered in Santa Monica, California area but can be adopted anywhere as long as you can come to SoCal and drive home. *PLEASE NOTE: The first step in the process is to complete an adoption application on our website roversretreat.org . Drake's adoption fee is $400*

Thelma IS AVAILABLE (updated 03-06-2026). To meet any of our dogs, complete our online adoption application on our website: http://www.coastalgsr.org/dogs/thelma Thelma is the sweetest girl who wants nothing more than to have a family of her own. She had a very rough start in life and was part of a hoarding case where A LOT of dogs were living in a one bedroom apartment. Thelma has since adapted to being in a foster home and part of a normal household. Thelma would love a home with another dog so she can have a companion. She doesnââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#132¢t ask for much and is a very quiet dog. She is a lab mix on the smaller side and gets along with all other animals. Please fill out an application to adopt Thelma! The minimum adoption donation is $375 for adults and $500 for puppies. This helps cover vet care, boarding fees, and other expenses. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.March 6, 2026, 5:25 am

Story
Hank IS AVAILABLE (updated 03-06-2026). To meet any of our dogs, complete our online adoption application on our website: http://www.coastalgsr.org/dogs/hank Hank is less than a year old, and is a mixed breed puppy. Weââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#132¢re not sure what his mix is, but possibly german shepherd, black lab, and husky (due to his cute tail which gets curlier and curlier whenever heââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#132¢s happy or excited). He was pulled from a high-kill animal shelter with just 3 hours to spare. Hank likes to toss his rope toy in the air and catch it, and he loves a good squeaky ball. Hank loves people and is affectionate, intelligent, and very high energy. He has been trained for basic commands, is potty trained, and has been trained to be comfortable around vacuum cleaners. Hankââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#132¢s shelter paperwork described him as good with other dogs, but he has been known to become reactive when heââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#132¢s walking on a leash and sees another dog. We think this is because of built up frustration due to being quarantined from other dogs for a couple of weeks after leaving the shelter (a standard precautionââ&#194&#130¬â&#194&#128&#194&#157Hank has a clean bill of health from the vet, and his 2-week quarantine is now up). He will be receiving some extra training to reintegrate him with other dogs as we feel he could greatly benefit from some doggy playtime. Hank can be overly enthusiastic with his affections, so he is not recommended for homes with small children. Hank would do best with an active family that is able to walk him daily and possibly take him for hikes, runs, etc. This handsome boy likes to move. Hank is currently looking for a foster family or a forever family. His re-homing fee is $80. His vaccinations are up to date, and he has been neutered. The minimum adoption donation is $375 for adults and $500 for puppies. This helps cover vet care, boarding fees, and other expenses. All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.March 6, 2026, 5:25 am

Story
Meet Skippy – the resilient, joyful 9-month-old who’s ready to steal your heart! Skippy’s story began with heartbreak. After darting into traffic and being hit by a car, this sweet boy suffered a fractured right hind leg. His original family, unable to afford the costly surgery, made the painful decision to surrender him to a high-kill shelter, where he was placed on the euthanasia list. Minutes – literally minutes – before his time was up, our rescue swooped in and pulled him to safety. We rushed Skippy straight to the vet, where skilled surgeons repaired his leg. Today, he’s fully healed, running and playing like nothing ever happened! He’s neutered, fully vaccinated, and already knows basic commands. This little guy is house-trained, affectionate, very playful, and an absolute lovebug with people of all ages – he adores kids! Skippy is non-reactive with other dogs, gets along with everyone he meets, and at just around 45 lbs (and likely staying on the smaller side for a Lab mix), he’s the perfect “tiny little” companion who thinks he’s a lap dog. From the brink of death to the brink of his happily-ever-after, Skippy is proof that second chances can create the most incredible dogs. He’s ready to reward the family who chooses him with endless tail wags, cuddles, and loyalty. Could that family be yours? Skippy sure hopes so! ???
