Story
We’re rehoming our 6-year-old black Labrador and Aussie mix, Max (neutered Fall 2024). This has been a difficult decision, but we want to find him a home where he can truly thrive. He is very loyal, affectionate, and strongly bonded to his person. He enjoys being close, can be playful in calm environments, and is alert with a loud bark. He’s also a strong puller on leash and will need a confident handler. He is sensitive to loud or chaotic environments and does best in a calm, predictable home. He had professional obedience training in fall of 2024.He currently lives with a larger dog but is not reliable with smaller dogs and has a history of chasing/snapping at smaller animals. He has a high prey drive. Best as an only pet.Best fit: experienced owner, adult home or older kids (8+).We are rehoming due to having a toddler and an upcoming move where we cannot safely maintain separation

Name: Joy Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 7 months old (as of 5/15) Best Guess for Breed: Lab Mix Weight: About 40 lbs (as of 5/15) Lives With: Dogs and people! Housebroken? Yes, she’s potty trained. Story: Joy and her brother Kringle were rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. We are so happy to have them safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Joy is equal parts playful and snuggly, and has dangerously effective puppy eyes. She is potty trained and even in a new space, knew to sit at the door to let us know she needed to go potty. She willingly waltzes into her crate, but she does prefer to be somewhere near her people. She is pretty good at settling down by herself. She is quickly learning the do’s and don’ts of puppy life, so when she attempts to chew something she shouldn’t, a quick correction sets her back on track. She knows how to sit and we are working on “paw” and “drop it”. When she meets new people, she has the most perfect wiggle I’ve ever witnessed… it’s how she’s earned the nickname “Noodle”! She’s good in the car, and great on leash - curious but smart enough to observe new surroundings before diving in. She hasn’t been exposed to cats yet.  The fee to adopt Joy is $475. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. If you think that Joy might be your perfect match, apply today!May 18, 2026, 8:43 pm

Name: Bubba Sex: Male Estimated Age: About 1.5 years old Best Guess for Breed: Lab Mix Weight: About 45 lbs Lives With: Dogs and all people! Housebroken? He’s potty trained! Rescued from: Alabama Story: Bubba is doing great and really making himself at home. He says hi to all visitors by bringing them one of his toys and wags his tail until people pet him. So far we’ve had two big parties in the home and he’s been just fine, saying hi to everyone (he’s even great with kids) and playing in the yard with his toys. Bubba is mostly potty trained he will let you know if he needs to go. He’s crate trained and will even make it even easier for you if he knows there’s a treat waiting for him in the crate. Once he’s in, he falls asleep chewing on his high reward treats. He will do best with an active family that can give him plenty of exercise. He’s great on a leash and has good “come” and “sit” recall. We aren’t sure how he’ll do with cats, but he does love dogs! He’s still learning how to play and sometimes forgets how big he is, but with some training, he’ll make a fabulous family member. The fee to adopt Bubba is $475. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, his neuter, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Story
Ready to bring the noise? Meet THUNDA! Thunda is a loving, goofy, high-energy sweetheart who’s equal parts storm and sunshine! This athletic, playful guy has a heart as big as his zoomies and a personality that lights up every room. He’s housetrained and already knows a variety of commands like sit, down, bang, up, wait, and come here—proof that he’s as smart as he is fun! Thunda absolutely loves toys, especially durable chew toys, and will happily keep himself entertained. Outside, he lives for zooming in circles, playing with toys, and chasing squirrels—his dream day is full of running, exploring, and soaking up the world around him. This enthusiastic boy is discovering just how exciting life outside the shelter can be, and his joy is truly contagious. Whether he’s barking at everything he sees on a car ride or proudly rearranging a woodpile during a snowstorm, Thunda brings energy and personality wherever he goes. If he were an object, he’d be a capacitor—full of boundless, buzzing energy! Thunda would do best in an active, adult home that can keep up with his lively spirit and continue guiding him with training and structure. Around children, he’s very excited and may jump up in his enthusiasm. If you’re ready for a loyal, affectionate companion who brings excitement, laughter, and a whole lot of personality, Thunda is ready to thunder his way into your heart! Story
Sometime, the best laid plans fall apart despite best efforts and intentions... Sirena is the sweetest girl with most gorgeous soft golden locks. She came to us 3 years ago with her litter of puppies. She was adopted then to an older couple, who had someone lined up to take Sirena if something were to happen to them. Devastatingly, now 3 years later, they are no longer able to care for her due to health concerns, and the person who had said she would look after Sirena is no longer up for the task. Sirena now is back to square one, again, looking for a forever home. She is now much older than she was 3 years ago, making her not as "marketable", and we are put on a time crunch to find her a new foster or forever home before she becomes homeless yet again. Sirena is now a chunky 50lb 5 year old girl, whose ideal weight should be closer to 45lbs. She is a medium energy lay-arounder who enjoys watching TV with her family. When it comes to humans, she bonds fiercely and gives her trust unconditionally to those who love her and respect her agency of choice. She needs a little time to warm up to strangers before letting them into her circle of trust. Her soulful and expressive eyes are constantly seeking to find connections. She is generally a quiet and reserved girl who enjoys the company of humans but not in an in-your-face or on-your-lap kind of way. Sirena is crate trained, potty trained, walks well on the leash, and has great house manners. She enjoys running around in her fenced backyard and playing with her flirt pole. She's wicked smart and loves to be engaged in training. She does have a strong prey drive and herding instincts, so a home with small children or small animals would not be a good fit. She is also not a fan of slippery floors, nail trimming, and long car rides. But these are easily overcome-able with some rugs, walks on concrete, and calming meds before a long trip. If you live in DC/MD/NoVa and have a quiet gentle patient home without a lot of comings and goings and can give Sirena a place to land as a temporary or permanent home, please fill out an application for her below to begin the process: https://forms.gle/V7qkQ2F5b55J8Nmt9

Story
Buddy is a 4-year-old, 80 lb Labrador mix with a big heart and lots of energy. He loves being outside, going on walks, playing, and especially anything involving water. He’s very affectionate and enjoys being close to his people. Buddy is intelligent, eager to please, and a quick learner. With structure and consistency, he has all the potential to become an incredible companion. His journey hasn’t been easy—after being adopted, his previous owner moved out of the country and couldn’t take him. He’s currently with family who care about him but aren’t able to meet his needs given their age and his size. Buddy would do best with an experienced owner who can provide time, training, and an active lifestyle. He has done well with other dogs in daycare when properly introduced. We’re committed to finding Buddy a loving, stable home where he can truly thrive.

Story
Penny is almost 5 years old and a goofball who we love dearly, but life has become very stressful for her lately. She’s half Golden Retriever and a mix of Pitbull and German Shepherd, making her a really smart, loyal girl, but her start as a stray puppy left her with some deep-seated anxiety. Since we’ve had a toddler and now have a newborn on the way, we’ve realized that the unpredictable energy of small children is just too much for her; she’s spent most of her time hiding and her quality of life has really declined. Penny has never been aggressive, but she gets a mix of overly excited and scared at the same time, which makes a home with kids a tough fit. She’s great and gentle with cats, and while she doesn’t do well in crowded dog settings, she could potentially warm up to another dog. We’re looking for someone who can give her an active but calm life where she doesn't have to be afraid.
