Story
Meet Rosie This pretty blond Lab came from the same property as our recent doodle mixes, Henrietta and Steve. The Good Samaritans who found them reached out to us about two additional dogs after their neighbor, who breeds doodle mixes, was jailed, and the dogs were left abandoned on the property. Animal Control stepped in, removed the dogs, and asked Worthy Dog to help. Rosie was living outside and was very underweight, with little to no prior vet care. She was very shy and shut down on intake, unsure of this new world around her. We brought in a trainer to get her more comfortable with the leash and thresholds (coming in and out of the home), and her foster mom worked with her to get her more comfortable with all the new sounds and activity of home life. Since entering rescue, Rosie has been slowly learning that people, homes, leashes, and daily life can all be safe and good things. Her foster family is working with to help her build confidence. She is a very submissive, gentle, and conflict-avoidant pup. She does well with other dogs, but to date, she tends to be more of a quiet observer than a playful social butterfly. She would likely benefit from a social, confident dog in the home to help continue showing her the ropes. She has proven to have excellent house manners; she’s house-trained, non-destructive, and settling nicely into foster care. While she was initially fearful of the leash, she now really enjoys walks and follows right along once you get moving. Walks may actually be her favorite part of the day now, and a great way to build rapport with her humans.  Rosie has been spayed and, amazingly, tested heartworm negative. She arrived in Northern Virginia on 5/16 and is currently being fostered in a home with a mom, dad, and college-age son. She is still building confidence and learning to trust, but underneath it all is a very sweet, lovely dog who needs a patient owner who is willing to work with her and give her time to fully blossom. Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: Labrador Retriever GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 55 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2years old COAT TYPE:  Short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Ashburn, VA    FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Gypsy  Gypsy is a pretty Lab mix who is looking for a stable forever home after spending her entire life with one family. She was surrendered to the rescue when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. A family friend reached out to her foster mom, Janet, for help. Gypsy is fortunate to have been loved her whole life as a family dog and has lived in a home environment since she was a small puppy. Now a budding senior, Gypsy is a moderate-energy dog who enjoys running and playing with younger dogs, but she’s equally happy settling down and relaxing afterward. She loves other dogs of all sizes, though she has always lived as an only dog, so she would likely do well either with canine companions or soaking up all the attention herself. She has also done well around cats. Gypsy can be a little aloof when you first meet her and may shy away from sudden movements, but once she feels comfortable, she’s very affectionate and enjoys being around her people. She’s great with visitors and genuinely enjoys making new friends. She has done well with children ages 8 and older, but we've not seen her with younger kids. She is potty trained, crate trained, and has very good house manners overall. On leash, Gypsy can pull and is a strong dog, so she would benefit from continued leash work and a capable handler. Janet shared that Gypsy has been a wonderful houseguest who settled in quickly... “She’s really easy and loves everyone. She talks to you when she wants something, which is funny. I’ve noticed that Gypsy likes to keep an eye on her surroundings and will happily “guard the perimeter” of the yard like a devoted protector.” Gypsy is the kind of dog who bonds deeply with her family and will be a loving, loyal companion for someone willing to give her the stability and loving home she deserves. Story
This handsome Labradoodle came from the same property as our recent doodle mixes, Henrietta and Steve. After their neighbor, who bred doodle mixes, was jailed, several dogs were left abandoned on the property. A caring family who found the dogs reached out for help, and when Animal Control removed the remaining dogs, Worthy Dog Rescue was asked to step in. Scottie had been living outside, likely his whole life, with little to no veterinary care, and was covered in ticks when he arrived. He was a bit underweight, but thankfully, this young boy was otherwise healthy. Since coming into rescue, he's been groomed, neutered, brought up to date on veterinary care, and even tested negative for heartworm (!) Over the past few weeks, he’s settled into his local foster home, living as an only-dog with two adults, but has regular playdates wtih friends and family dogs. He's excellent with other dogs, loves to play, and will adapt to their level of play.  Home life is still new for Scottie, and while he’s timid, he’s improving daily. His foster mom, Michelle, is working with him to build confidence and help him adjust. She shared this update: “He's a very sweet boy who was timid at first, but now that he's had time to settle in, he's more engaged. He walks great on leash and has good house manners. He's still skittish with noises, but he's getting better at meeting new people and is learning to enjoy pets and attention. While he doesn't always seek it out, he definitely enjoys it." Scottie would do best with engaged adopters who have the patience to give him time to settle in. He does fine as an only dog, but would also benefit from a confident, social dog in his new home. He loves every dog he meets and is very friendly and adaptable. There’s not an aggressive bone in his body, and I can tell he's getting more comfortable. Sometimes he’ll run from us in the yard, but if I squat down, he’ll come over after a few minutes." This sweet boy is very gentle, sweet-natured, and eager to continue learning that people can be trusted. He'll do best in a calmer home with patient adopters who will give him the time and support he needs to build confidence and fully blossom into the wonderful companion we know he can be. Apply today! Story
Meet Wyatt This sweet, budding senior was found wandering as a stray in the Carolina heat, tired, and covered in fleas. Thankfully, a kind Samaritan took him in and searched for his family, but sadly, no one ever came forward. We see countless dogs in need of rescue, and can only save them if we have a foster to take them in.  Thanks to our amazing, big-hearted foster Jen, the stars aligned for Wyatt, and we had a foster home ready to take him in. It did not take long for us to learn that this gentle boy is a pretty wonderful pup. Wyatt is sweet, funny, and easygoing, with a laidback personality that makes him a great companion. After a few nervous accidents during his first days, he quickly settled in and is now fully housetrained with a consistent routine. He is also crate-trained and does well in his crate when his foster mom is away for a few hours, though he will likely be trustworthy left out once comfortable in a new home. In his foster home, Wyatt gets along well with dogs and cats and loves people. He’s especially affectionate with his humans and enjoys attention and companionship. He bonds closely with “his person,” and has learned that attention can be shared with the pack. Wyatt enjoys car rides and going for walks, happily following his nose along the way. He walks well on leash and likes to get out and about. He has bursts of activity and will happily trot around the yard or follow the other dogs when they get playful, but he’s just as happy curling up for a long nap nearby.  Food is definitely one of Wyatt’s favorite things. He’s very treat-motivated and always excited for mealtime. Because he eats quickly and loves snacks, he’s currently working on shedding a few extra pounds.  Medically, Wyatt has limited vision in one eye from an old injury, but it doesn’t bother him, and he navigates his surroundings just fine. Like many senior dogs, he takes supplements to support his health. We did an ultrasound on him to make sure he had no internal issues, and thankfully, there were no major concerns. He currently takes medication for gallbladder “sludge,” likely related to poor nutrition in the past, along with liver and joint supplements we give to most of our seniors. Wyatt has great mobility overall, but can have a little trouble jumping onto higher surfaces. He can jump up on the couch no problem, but when getting into an SUV, he may need a boost, especially while he’s carrying a bit of extra weight. Wyatt needs to trim down, so watching his calories and regular walks will be an important part of his care. While he has playful moments, Wyatt spends much of his day enjoying long naps and relaxing near his people. At night, he sleeps peacefully in a cozy dog bed next to his foster mom’s bed. FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 3/11/26 " Wyatt is amazing. He’s great on leash, not a big puller. I think he would love a home with a flexible work schedule. He is crated at my house because of all the dogs and fosters we have coming in and out, but I think he would be just fine home alone (not destructive) and not crated. He doesn’t really do toys but likes chewing on Benebones, loves just lying in the sun, and going for walks. Sleeps all night on “his”bed right next to me on the floor at night. He will love someone being there so much. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be with you and will lie down behind you when you are in the kitchen cooking. He isn’t intrusive or bothersome; he’s just very connected. I think he will do great with another dog who matches his energy, small or large, but chill."  This sweet boy is such a resilient, affectionate soul who clearly hasn’t had an easy life, and he needs a loving home to live out his golden years Wyatt needs a FOSTER home to bring him to town. Open to foster-to-adopt, too!  Apply today!
