Story
Male, 13 mo, 43# Approximate Age: 13 mo   Approximate Weight/Size:    Medium when full grown   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Grootl! I'm an incredibly loving, cuddly dog with a puppy face and a great personality. I love to go on walks and to the dog park. I also love playing and being pet, and I'm very friendly to other people and dogs. When I'm not out and about, I sleep in my crate.   Since I'm young, I can still use some additional obedience training. I'm mostly house trained, but might have an accident if I'm out off schedule. I also have a lot of puppy energy at the dog park and may overwhelm smaller dogs.   I'm so excited to find my forever home!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Overall wellness exam Current on all core vaccines (including DHPP & rabies) Microchip Current on flea & tick and heartworm preventatives   Interested in adopting a rescue dog? Story
Female, ~5 years old, ~48 lbs. Approximate Age: ~5 years old   Approximate Weight/Size:    Medium/Large   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Luna! I recently had a litter of puppies and they were all rescued, but I was left behind. I was on the euthanasia list but the folks at RDR could not let that happen so they rescued me and now I'm ready to find my forever home!   I am a happy go lucky girl with a bubbly personality. I get along with everyone I meet and I have so much love to give. Although I don't live with kids, I've done great when kids have visited my foster home. Going to the dog park is my favorite thing: I play great with other dogs. I love toys, particularly chew toys, and I love being around people and sniffing everything along my walks. I could even make a great running buddy! However, I would do best in a home outside of the city, because I can get scared at the loud noises outside on walks.   I could benefit from some obedience training to harness my energy and learn to listen better. Although I am an energetic pup (and I can get a bit mouthy at times), I'm grateful for time to rest in the crate. I'm still working on my house training, but I when I go inside, I'm trained to go on a pee pad. Since I've come to DC, I've made great progress on my house training. In addition, I now know "sit" "place" and I mostly know "fetch".   I can't wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Story
Male, 2 years old, 48lbs Approximate Age: ~2 years old   Approximate Weight/Size:    Medium/Large   Good with: Dogs   Not tested with: Cats, Kids   Hi, I'm Choco! I'm the coolest fella you'll ever meet with piercing yellow eyes and an infectious attitude and smile! I'm a big ball of energy and full of kisses! Whether you're planning to cruise around town, hang at the dog park, or climb Mt. Everest, you can bet that I'll be right by your side. I don't like to be left out and will follow you wherever you go! I'll never say no to pets or attention. I'm a super playful pup who will prance around the house with a toy in my mouth: in particular, I love my chew toys!   You know how they say "curiosity killed the cat?" Well.. replace "cat" with "dog" and this accurately describes me! Even though I'm 2 years old, I have the curiosity of a puppy, and I will often test boundaries to figure our what the rules are. I need some additional training to learn boundaries, for example, what to and not to chew on and when to and not to jump. But, I'm super eager to learn! In the meantime, though, I'd do best in a home with older children or children with experience with dogs until I'm less mouthy and jumpy. I'd do best with a forever family that can provide me with guidance and boundaries.   I'm the type of dog who's never met a stranger *(human or dog). I'm very good with other dogs, but I sometimes get overexcited which can be overwhelming for other pups. I do great with some redirection when this happens. I'm both potty and crate trained, so I benefit from taking some time in my crate to relax and reset!       I can't wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Story
Female, ~7 months old, ~38 lbs. Approximate Age: ~7 months old   Approximate Weight/Size:    Medium when full grown   Good with: Dogs, Kids   Not tested with: Cats   Hi, I'm Khaleesa! I've been described as the absolute sweetest little girl. I love to go on long walks during the day and snuggle up with my foster family at night. I'm very loving: I will accept belly rubs or any kind of pet any day of the week. I love all people and I'd be a great family dog. I was previously fostered with a young baby and would give him kisses when he cries. I do not have a strong prey drive, but sometimes I don't understand that cats don't want to play with me and I can come on too strong or chase. I also get along great with other dogs in the home and love to play and wrestle with them. I do great at the dog park as well and can run and play with other dogs for days. When I'm not out and about, I love to snuggle up with a good chew toy.   Since I'm just a puppy, I have several training needs: I need to learn how to properly walk on a leash and control my excitement when I meet new people. I can also be a bit mouthy at times, but never in an aggressive way: I'm just super excited!   But I'm just a baby! I'll learn eventually with the good guidance of my forever family.   Since I've come to D.C., I've already come a long way. For example, I wasn't housetrained, but now I only have accidents very rarely. I also used to have a bit of separation anxiety, but now I do fine left alone outside of my crate without any incidents. I'm already crate trained and I will sleep in there overnight. I respond very well to "no", I already know sit, and I am treat motivated, so I'm sure to be an easy to train pup. I'm so excited to find my forever home!   A few things to consider before applying to adopt a puppy: - Puppies require a lot of upfront work including both obedience and house training. - Puppies cannot be left home alone for long periods while they are young. - You might need to "puppy-proof" your home before bringing one home.   Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrd r My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) happy young girl ready to play! MARTINA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Martina        Best Guess for Breed:  Lab mix   Best Guess for Age:  7 months as of December 2023          SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:  20 lbs as of 12/4/23; she is still growing!   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested   Currently Living at:  Oklahoma shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get on a freedom flight here Saturday 12/9!   Martina is Looking For:   Her forever family! This sweetie is barely out of puppyhood and she hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet. She's eager to experience new places, people, and pups! Long sniffy walks, romps in the park, all the adventures her new humans can dream up - yes, please! And definitely play time and lots of snuggles too! She has also added 'variety of toys, quality kibble, and cushy dog bed' to her wish list. Dog school would be great, too, so she can show how super smart she is.But what she wants most of all is to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. In exchange, she promises loyal companionship, adoring gazes, and tail wags.  What do you say? Does Martina get to grow up with you? Follow his foster adventures on Instargram @luckydogsinloudoun Name:   Moose        Best Guess for Breed:   Lab mix      Best Guess for Age:   5 years        SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:    57lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! Moose has not been see with cats or kids but he can be tested!   Currently Living at:    DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Moose is a truly Lucky Dog!  He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.   Moose is Looking For:   His forever family! Through no fault at all of his own, he needs a new home. Moose is out of the puppy yips and in his prime as an adult dog, eager for long sniffy walks and world exploration - and to make pup and people pals along the way! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed round out his wish list. So trips to the local creek or park would be great! Most of all, though, he wants to have his own humans  - he's ready to offer kisses, adoring gazes, and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is Moose the one you can see trotting by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:    Moose just got here, but he is a total doll! He is sweet and friendly and loves to hang out with you.  He did stupendously on our car ride home, watching out the window for a bit and then napping quietly until we made it to our destination.  He has tall legs, big feet like he's wearing white boots, and big, soft, floppy ears. His coat is also very soft...if you didn't know he was 5 years old, you could mistake him for a giant puppy.  He also has such a happy smile that he loves to display when he leans up against you for butt scratches. He also likes to sweetly lay his head in your lap or on your knee while you're sitting on the couch.  He has feigned a little interest in squeaky toys but definitely enjoyed his long-chewy treat. He has met a cat and is interested to know the her, but mostly ignores her. I think he just wants to see what she is and move on, but I definitely think he would be fine living with one. And while I don't have kids, his overall gentle nature seems like he could fit into any family.  He knows how to sit and takes treats gently. He also has done well on the leash so far and has started sitting at the door when we he would like to go outside. Moose has been a sweet houseguest and is a wonderful dog!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
