Story
WHAT AN ATHLETE!  Estimated DOB 9/1/21, Weight ~ 65 lbs Howdy! My name is Jack!  I’m a very happy, wiggly, Black Labrador Retriever / Greyhound mix (best guess) with one erect and one floppy ear. I love all people, though sometimes I forget how big I am with kiddos. I LOVE to wrestle with other big dogs, go on hikes, splash in water, chew on all of my squeaky toys, and chase my tennis balls. I’m being fostered by an amazing foster mom who is helping me work on my manners. I’m smart and an eager learner so long as treats are involved. My big foster brother and I wrestle lots, but my small foster sister is too small to play with, so I’d do best in a home with large, energetic dogs like me. I also have a foster kitty brother, but he and I don’t get along too well. I like to chase him, and he doesn’t like to be chased.  Though I may have lots of energy, I love to take naps with my foster mom, go to the park and watch the birds, watch TV, and even go people watching! We do lots of hikes and long walks to help me work off my energy so an active home with prior dog owner experience would be best. My foster mom thinks I would make a great sport dog or hiking buddy for the right family.  A Good Samaritan found me wandering around a park with no ID tags or microchip and I’m so relieved I was accepted into the HOPE program. I’m anticipating my new home with a loving, caring family, a canine pal, and a yard where I can frolic to my heart’s content. Could that be with you? Story
THE BEST-EST BOY!  Estimated DOB 10/1/21, weight 62 lbs. Woof, Woof, everyone! I’m Buddy, a happy, friendly, patient, trusting Black Lab mix fella who loves to hang out indoors with my people-pack. I’ve been called a low-rider, but basically I’m a Black Lab mixed with something smaller, perhaps Terrier? (my back is knee-high on my foster mom). You’d be hard-pressed to find another dog who’s as gentle and well-socialized with people of all ages as I am – even when the vet pokes and prods me. Foster Mom says that I’m just the “best-est” boy all the way around! I get along great with other dogs and love playing with them. Interactive play with my foster mom as she tosses toys, sticks, and balls for me thrills my heart. When I’m thoroughly exhausted from playing outside, I’m content to snooze on my doggie bed. Let’s see – what else can I tell you about what a good boy I am? I’m smart, so I quickly learned “sit,” “down,” and “shake” as well as how to use the doggie door. I walk obediently on a leash, take treats gently, and am fine with baths. A Good Samaritan found me on a back road where I’d been abandoned by my owner. I was covered in mange, but thank heavens my foster mom took me in. My coat has grown back nicely (after many medicated baths!), so I’m now ready for my forever home. Considering what I’ve been through, I’m very resilient because I’ve responded so enthusiastically to the love that my foster mom has showered upon me. I’d love to spend the rest of my days in a comfy home surrounded by people who love me and will never abandon me again. I’d fit like a glove into a lot of households – including with kids and other dogs. Ideally an active family will adopt me and give me plenty of daily exercise – either by walking, jogging, or playing fetch in the back yard. Could that be with you? Arrange to meet me today! Story
Up for adoption in Texas: Mocha. Mocha has lots of personality! Just look at how she poses for pictures, she shines and makes funny faces. She is about 7 years old and weighs 45 pounds. Mocha wants nothing more than to find her forever family. Mocha is a beautiful, fluffy, chocolate colored girl, with gorgeous, hazel eyes. She listens well and redirects easily. Mocha would do best in a quiet home without a lot of people coming and going or young children running about. We think she may have some herding dog breed in her and she doesn't like people or kids zipping around her or her yard. Adults and/or adults and older teens would be ideal for Mocha's forever home. She needs a fenced-in backyard. She does best with slow introductions to new people. She likes other dogs but can be a little bossy, so we'd recommend a home where she can be the only dog, or perhaps a home with another chill or submissive dog. (We would require a meet and greet if an adopter has an existing dog.) Mocha is not fond of cats. To set Mocha and her new family up for success she will need continued positive reinforcement training and we can help you find the right trainer and set you both up for success! Mocha is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, housebroken, and crate trained. Apply now at www.luckylabrescue.com!

Story
Up for adoption in Texas: Lucy. Lucy is a one-year-old, 67-pound girl that loves people, toys, treats, and playtime. She is smart and has the most soulful eyes. She was picked up as a stray and we think she may have never lived in a home or family setting before. Lucy needed a bit of let's say, "refinement." Lucy has been staying with an amazing positive reinforcement trainer where she has learned basic manners to help her be the best housemate and companion she can be. She has learned how to appropriately seek out attention from her humans and sit and wait patiently to receive affection. She has learned when to relax and be calm. She’s an excellent listener, even when interested in something. Her trainer has a pig and Lucy loves to sniff him when he's napping. But when her trainer asks her to "leave it" Lucy will stop what she’s doing and pay attention. She gets a lot of treats and positive reinforcement for leaving things that are not safe for her to interact with or explore. Lucy walks well on a leash, is crate trained. She loves toys, tummy rubs, snuggles, and enrichment activities like foraging for special treats and solving puzzles. She needs physical and mental stimulation. Lucy would do best in an active home with someone that is home quite a bit. She would do best with a job, like agility or any activity she can do alongside her favorite human. She really enjoys socializing with other dogs in the training program and met many dogs of different breeds and sizes. She would do well with another dog in her forever home. We'd recommend a meet and greet with anyone who has a current dog. Lucy needs an outlet for her energy. As she matures, these tendencies should level out, but consistency in expectations is the best way to manage energy and behavior. Because of her size and puppy-like behaviors, kids 13+ are best. Her trainer has offered to continue working with Lucy and her new family when she’s adopted. So that's great news! Lucy is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and housebroken. Story
"Pick me! Pick me! I might just be the cutest Lab mix in the Lone Star State with my cute ears. My name is Shadow, and I'm up for adoption in Texas!" Shadow is about one-year-old, and he weighs 50 pounds. Like a typical young dog, Shadow has lots of energy and loves to play. But he does very well in his crate and can be calm. He's housebroken, vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He'd be a great hiking buddy or possibly running pal (when it's not 100 degrees out, of course!) He gets along with most dogs, for some reason, he isn't a fan of one dog he knows. We're not sure why. So if an adopter has another dog, we'd recommend a meet and greet first. Shadow has been non-reactive to cats, though. In fact, we had him cat tested, and we're told, "The cats checked him out from afar, then jumped right down and started rubbing on him. He wasn't so sure about it, but he stayed calm and gave no red flags." Of course, this isn't a guarantee he'd get along with all cats -- but the brave, dog-savvy kitties seem to have the upper hand. We'd like anyone who adopts Shadow to be an experienced dog owner and continue the positive reinforcement training he's received. We think Shadow is very smart and would love the stimulation and attention he receives during training. He'd do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and adults and or adults and kids over 15. Shadow also needs exercise and playtime to exercise his own inner puppy. Shadow has a lot of love to give, and we'd love for him to find a wonderful forever home. Apply at www.luckylabrescue.com

Story
We all have scars, and we all have stories. If Winks could talk, we're sure he'd have quite a story to tell. But we can only hypothesize why Winks, who is only one year old, has the scars he does. But we do know despite his past, his bright happy spirit shines through each day. He hopes his forever family will be the gems he's been waiting for and deserves. Winks is deaf. He also has some facial atrophy that makes his left eye look a bit droopy. Our veterinarians believe the atrophy is caused by some sort of trauma or injury Winks endured before we saved him. We don't know if he was hit by a car or even hit or beaten because he can't hear and wasn't responsive to someone's commands. The injury is healed, and it doesn't slow Winks down, but his eye will likely remain looking like he's winking at you. We think he's adorable! Despite being deaf, our volunteers report that Winks does very well in new situations. He has been to doggie daycare and appears to get along well with people and dogs of all sizes. Winks will need a home with an experienced dog owner. If someone uses sign language or has experience with a deaf dog -- that would be a bonus. Wait a minute, hang on here, Winks just told us he wants to show you all how smart he is -- he says: "Let me introduce myself: I'm Winks and I'm looking for my fur-ever family! When my foster mom saved me from the shelter, I was so happy that I couldn't leave her side. I may look a little different, but that doesn't bother me, and I'm already back to being the rambunctious, inquisitive dog I was always meant to be! My foster family discovered early on that I'm a very special boy who can't hear, but that doesn't stop me from being the sweetest of dogs. I'm currently working with a trainer who's helping me learn to communicate with my human and doggie friends. She says I'm so, so smart, and learn quickly, and she will continue working with my new family and me so that we can communicate with each other. My foster dad says I'm vocal and I'm an active dog that still acts like a puppy, so I ask that you have patience with me. I love kids, but I can play rough, so older kids suit me best. And please make sure I have another canine brother or sister to play with. I could play all day if you let me! I'm a friendly dog and love every new person I meet. I'm working on my leash skills, and I'm very treat motivated. I also love chew toys- just make sure they are durable! I would love to be part of your family!" Winks weighs 70 lbs. He is vaccinated, neutered, house and crate trained, and microchipped. To apply for Winks go to www.luckylabrescue.com

Story
Up for adoption in Texas: Mabel and her teddy bear. Mabel loves carrying around her teddy bear -- hoping one day she and her stuffed animal will find a loving family. Beautiful Mabel is about three-years-old and weighs 60 pounds. When she's not carrying around her toy, she can be found smiling for pictures. Look at that big grin. It's like she's posing. Mabel is clearly a ham. If you adopt her, at least someone in your family will happily pose for pictures. Mabel has a big personality and lots of energy. She does OK with other dogs but prefers not to be in a place she feels stuck behind a gate or crate when another dog is present. We'd recommend a meet and greet if you have another dog. We aren't exactly sure how she would do with a cat in her home. She's walked by some and has not really reacted. Mable would thrive doing more positive reinforcement training with an experienced owner. We recommend a home with adults or adults and older teenage kids. She is housebroken, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Please help Mabel get a home! Apply at www.luckylabrescue.com

Up for adoption in Texas: Joey. Joey is an absolutely adorable ten-month-old pup who weighs about 44 pounds. He has a gorgeous colored coat. His foster mom loves watching him play with her dogs and work off his puppy energy. He's terrific with other dogs and adores them. Joey would be thrilled to have another dog in his forever home or access to play with them often. He loves to play chase and tug of war and be rewarded with treats. Joey is shy at first. He will come to get scratches from you and then walk away. But in time, as Joey gets to know you, he becomes your sidekick and loves belly rubs. Joey is doing well walking on a leash. He is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, crate trained and housebroken. If Joey sounds like the pup for you, please apply at luckylabrescue.com.
