Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, September 9th unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $300   Rutabaga is a 7 year old Miniature Pinscher mix who was surrendered to us when her family was moving and was no longer able to take care of her. Rutabaga is the kind of dog that takes a bit of time to warm up to you but then she is your one and only forever. If you are looking for an older (golden) gal who still has a TON of love to show the world, Rutabaga is your girl.  Below is a note from Rutabaga's foster. 'Rutabaga is the kind of dog that takes a few days to come out of her shell but once she has, she is the biggest snuggler and cuddler I have ever met. She follows me absolutely everywhere (but she isn't clingy). When I have to work she is happy to sit on her bed and play with a toy, but her ideal spot is sitting on my lap and having me pet her for hours. The funniest thing we discovered is that she is more likely to want attention when we are giving it to someone else, then she is like 'me me me!' Rutabaga wakes up around 7 AM and heads out for a 15 minute potty walk. She has breakfast and then spends some of her morning lounging around while I get some work done. She gets another walk in the middle of the day before another nap. She gets a long walk in the evening before having dinner and settling down for the evening. Rutabaga has gotten along well with big and small dogs alike. I don't think she thinks she is as small as she is, because she has that fearless big dog energy that only small dogs seem to emulate. Rutabaga likes a walk but she is totally a couch potato dog when we let her hang out on the couch.  My favorite thing about Rutabaga is when she wants attention she will stand on her back two legs to try and show off, but then she loses her balance and sometimes ends up toppling over onto a soft bed nearby.'   Rutabaga is only an option for those who have owned a dog in the past 5 years, with emphasis placed on those applications who have experience with shy dogs. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 and on the quieter side, as she is a smaller gal who needs a bit of time to warm up to new people and loud kids could freak her out. October 2, 2023, 9:38 am

If you would like to give RYAN a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application About Ryan: Ryan is a good-looking young pup with calm temperament; he is docile and submissive by nature. He is very food motivated, so is easy to train. Despite his young age, Ryan is well behaved, with no barking or chewing issues; and he is crate trained to sleep overnight. His favorite pastime is hanging out with doggie pals in the park and the daily walks. Ryan is loyal to his master; he could be a little shy when introduced to strangers, but is easy-going and comfortable around familiar faces. He gets along well with dogs and cats. Ryan will be a great companion pet if he got chance to be your family member. Please watch his video to learn more about sweet Ryan. Ryan’s rescue story: Like other strays, puppy Ryan was under the feeding of volunteers for the first five months of his life, until one day he was injured by a car. Treatment for him in the hospital was successful and he soon resumed normal activities and stayed in the shelter until he was one year old. When he was finally put under the care of a foster family, Ryan was very timid and skittish, but showed great improvement in socializing in just a few months under the care of his foster family. Now he’s fully adapted to the busy streets in the city and can walk confidently when lead by a leash. Story
Max is a great nine-year-old miniature pincher Chihuahua with a very soft side. Unfortunately due to behavioral issues I can no longer keep up with him. He experienced anxiety and he might not be the friendliest, but with lots of love and patience, he will become your best friend. He loves to play tug-o-war, can play fetch for hours, and is a great cuddle bug.

Story
Miniature Pinscher / Terrier Mix Age: 5-6 yrs old Male, neutered 16 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Murphy was found abandoned on the streets of Newark. He was in pretty bad shape - neglected, possibly abused, skin issues, matted fur, etc. At the shelter he was shutdown, fearful, untrusting. The Tri-City Fremont Shelter reached out to us for help. Murphy is an interesting / complex little guy. He is constantly seeking attention from humans (any human that will pet him). At the same time, he will occasionally give signals that would make someone think that he doesn’t want attention. He walks well on a leash. He is unsure about some types of handling, but our experienced foster home has been able to put a harness on him, pick him up, bath him, etc. But it takes time for him to trust someone before he is comfortable. He does well with other dogs, and he has been in a foster home with cats, birds, chickens, reptiles. Even though his appearance screams “Yorkie” or “Norfolk Terrier,” his DNA results show mostly Miniature Pinscher and Jack Russell Terrier. We have no idea where his long silky fur came from. Murphy needs a forever home that will give him the time and patience to continue learning to trust humans again. He needs an experienced, confident adopter that can read his mood and interact with him accordingly. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13, However, in Murphy’s case - an adult home only.
