Come meet Jasmine and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (9/6) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Jasmine Best Guess for Breed: Retriever and plott hound mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of May 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 35 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Jasmine is Looking For: Her forever home! This pretty striped girl landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. Now she's looking for her own humans to trot alongside on those sniffy walks and adventures - she's in her prime young adult years and wants to burn all that awesome dog energy! Making new pup pals along and having plenty of opportunity to run and play is on her wish list along with quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. But above all she wants to know where she belongs, to be under her own roof, to be safe and loved. In exchange, she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Can you see her by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Jasmine is settling in beautifully and becoming more confident each day. She's a playful, social pup who absolutely shines around other dogs, happily playing with pups of all sizes at the dog park. At home, she's a wonderful work-from-home companion who enjoys being near her people and is happiest cuddling on the floor by your side. Like many young dogs, she may be tempted to investigate shoes, clothes, or plants once she's comfortable, but she redirects easily with a toy. She's still working on learning basic commands and is especially motivated by tasty treats like deli turkey. Jasmine also has a silly side—she loves rolling in the dirt (and sometimes other messy things!), but thankfully she's easy to bathe and takes it all in stride. Heartworm information: Jasmine is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Jasmine has completed this activity restriction period. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
