Story
Frank was transferred to Valley Humane on 4/19 from the East County Animal Shelter after being abandoned. Frank is an adult dog (estimated to be between 4 and 7 years old) and weighs 14.5 pounds.Frank has a shrunken left eye. This could be secondary to an injury or severe infection. He appears comfortable with no obvious discharge or redness. If this changes or is painful an exam should be scheduled with a veterinarian. Frank is missing a right testicle. An exploratory was done to look for the right testicle but it was unable to be found. A testosterone level can be checked in 1 month at VHS.Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption? Story
Meet the Oober adorable Pigeon Bird! Pigeon is a 3 year old 12 lb PugCHi mix that came to us from @mManteca AniManteca Animal Services     This is what her foster family has to say about her-   ' While fearful at first, this little gal will soon become curious, confident, sweet and loving. She is a high energy girl and would match well with an active person.   Pigeon is most eager to please and would benefit from training classes to harness her enthusiasm and energy. She will follow you everywhere, and shows potential as a velcro dog, but at this stage is always on the move, sniffing, inspecting, patrolling and napping on yours houlder. Once Pigeon is confident about her environment, she will nap quietly next to you or on your shoulder if possible.       We don’t recommend a house with cats, as she chases them, but she does well with other dogs. She hasn’t been tested with children yet, so we don’t know how she is.   Pigeon is afraid of loud noises, but with time seems to become more adjusted.   She is not completely housebroken yet, and knows how to use pee pads. She is great on leash, doesn’t pull, and with some training, will become even better. When she sees the leash she bounces up and down with joy!   Pigeon also enjoys rides in the car but will need to be harnessed in as she likes to explore her environment. She also enjoys going to work with her foster mom and getting attention and napping in the big office chair with her dog buddy.   Some of her favorite pastimes are furniture parkour, rolling around on her back, and invading the space of her people. She doesn’t seem terribly food motivated at this point, it could be because she is still getting settled, after her stressful time in the shelter. Getting her to take pills has proven to be a bit of a challenge, one that has been solved by wrapping them in cat food or chicken, or some other high-value food.'   If you are interested in adopting this sweet amazing girl, please fill out an application at www.beourpet.org/adoptions.php   If you are unable to adopt but want to help ***PLEASE SHARE PIGEONS STORY***   GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Working on it Crate Trained?: Yes Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No Good with cats?: Chases but does not harm Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: Regular adoption fee applies Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.  Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.   We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.  We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.  To help our ALL VOLUNTEER team rescue more senior, special needs, medically needy and hospice animals (and a few 'typical' ones along the way, please consider making a tax-deductible (TAX ID 45-4103375) donation online at www.paypal.me/UOH or Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue or Zelle beourpet@gmail.com.   You can also buy tees, tanks. sweatshirts, hats and bandannas where all proceeds benefit our animals https://ruff-life-rescue-wear.myshopify.com/collections/umbrella-of-hope We also have an Etsy store where the merchandise is made by volunteers and supporters, changes regularly and 100% of the proceeds benefit our medical fund https://www.etsy.com/shop/Umbrellaofhope Amazon Wish List tinyurl.com/pineapplewish  April 28, 2024, 7:59 pm

Story
This little smoosh has one of the cutest faces we've ever seen on a potato. He might be a little timid at first, but he warms up quickly. Spork is a tiny tail wag motor who will gladly swoop in at a moments notice to look you right in the eyes and tell you how much he loves you. You'll soon be telling anyone who asks "he rescued me. Here's some notes from his foster: Spork is a sweet, cuddly and super human-friendly dog. He is very affectionate is terms of physical contact (sitting next to you, touching you and snuggle his head on you). He is okay with other dogs but doesn't like it when dogs get too close to him> Spork is pretty low energy in general. He likes to sleep, lie on his bed and walk around the house to investigate. Sporky however doesn't like going outside and would shake/ shiver, especially if it's windy outside. He doesn't like walking all that much, he would only walk when/where it's quiet and not a lot of people when outside. He doesn't mind being carried in your arms or in a well structured bag though. As for stairs, he generally avoids them. He is a big water drinker. Sporky LOVES treats, and like with any dog with a bit of pug, he swallows his treat and barely chews. Sporky would take any treat that has a meat smell. Sporky sleeps quite a lot, typical for a senior dog. He is a light sleeper though. And like any pug, he snores while he sleeps. Sometimes loudly . Grooming Sporky is a cake. He is patient and calm. I gave him a bath, dried him with a hairdryer and trimmed his nail and didn't seem to mind.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $700   Jello is a 4 month old Pug mix (currently 6.6 pounds) who is as lovely as can be and can’t wait to make your life sweeter! Jello and his brother, Pudding, came to our rescue after being saved from a hoarding situation. When we originally arrived, we didn’t even know these sweet boys existed, but we refused to leave any dog behind so into the rescue they came! While we aren’t sure what Mom or Dad looked like, we suspect these brothers will remain under 15 pounds fully grown. We will be looking for individual homes for each puppy as we do not place siblings in the same home.    Jello is the leader between the two boys but only in planning the social calendar! Jello adores his toys and lives his life aiming to have more fun every day! He is an absolute character and brightens any room he enters (or more accurately comes crashing into with his brother right behind him). Jello loves playing tug of war and is figuring out how to play fetch. Jello loves cuddles as well, and often wraps his hands around an arm or hand when he is ready to snooze so he can make you nap with him! He will never say no to climbing into an open lap for some scratches as he gives out puppy kisses. This sweet boy is cute enough to eat and lives up to his namesake by making life better by the day.  Pudding is a true Mama’s Boy and would love spending his entire day being coddled and snuggled if he could. Don’t let that make you think he doesn’t like to play though! Pudding can get down with his brother and loves snatching toys and zooming away with them as fast as his little legs can carry him. Pudding practically melts when he gets belly rubs and will often fall asleep on his back as he gets loved on. Pudding follows his brother around faithfully but doesn’t let Jello take advantage of him! He will happily flop down on top of Jello when he decides it is time for a nap and then he is off in dreamland!    The brothers start their day at 7 AM with breakfast as their pen is cleaned out. They spend some time playing with each other and their toys after breakfast. They are working on basic training and have already started learning quite a few tricks! Throughout the morning, they play together and nap together in an adorable cycle until 1 PM, when they eat lunch. Once the foster family comes home, the puppies spend their evening getting their zoomies out as they race around the house before flopping over for naps. They have dinner at 6 PM and enjoy some boiled chicken with their kibble. They get some time in the yard to sniff and play after dinner, where they also work on some more tricks. After it gets dark, everyone comes inside and the puppies enjoy some snuggles on the couch until they go to bed at 8 PM in their pen.  The puppies get along well with dogs of all ages and sizes. They were polite with the resident cat. They love people and adore their human foster siblings. Jello and Pudding will require continued socialization and training to ensure they grow up to be the perfect pups we know they can be! We expect any interested home to provide a plan for training once the puppy joins your household.    Jello is only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the last 5 years. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.May 1, 2024, 9:42 pm
