Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 18th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $650 Praline: Built for zoomies, snacks, and snuggles!   5–6 Months Old Pug Mix 19.6 lbs   Praline is a joyful, friendly, and deeply affectionate young dog with a huge personality and even bigger zest for life. From the moment she arrived, she has been social, confident, and eager to connect with people and other dogs.   At first, she was very much a “velcro dog,” wanting to follow her person everywhere and stay close at all times. As she has settled in, she has gained confidence and now also enjoys independent downtime, often choosing to nap in another room once she feels comfortable.   She is incredibly curious about everything and everyone. On walks, she regularly stops to wag her tail at passersby, fully expecting— and often receiving— pets and attention. If she recognizes someone she’s met before, she may even whine a little in excitement until she gets her greeting, as if to say, 'Hi friend! I love you!'   She is affectionate and social, but not overly clingy once she’s settled. She enjoys being near her people, but also knows how to relax on her own.   Daily Routine   Praline starts her day bright and early around 6:00 a.m. with a quick potty break, followed by breakfast around 7:00 a.m. She enjoys a solid play session for about 45 minutes afterward, then settles in for a long morning nap that can last until late morning or even noon.   Her afternoons are a nice balance of activity and rest. She typically goes out for a 30–40 minute walk mid-day, followed by a small snack. After more play and nap time, she eats lunch around 2:00 p.m. She enjoys another walk in the late afternoon (around 4:00–6:00 p.m.), dinner at 7:00 p.m., and a final potty break around 10:30 p.m.     Praline is highly food motivated, so meals are scatter-fed to slow her down and turn eating into a fun enrichment game she genuinely loves.   Social Behavior (Dogs, Cats, Kids)   Praline is very social with other dogs and generally plays well, especially with dogs that match her energy. Some older or lower-energy dogs may find her enthusiasm a bit much after a while, but her play style is typically gentle and engaging, and she is often invited back into play again and again.   She has shown curiosity and playfulness toward cats, though her exposure has been limited.   She is friendly with children of various ages, including toddlers and older kids. She is affectionate and often gives gentle licks, but she does get excited and may jump or nibble when overstimulated, as is typical of a puppy her age, so she does best with supervision around small children.   Energy Level & Play Style   Praline loves fetch, loves being outside, and absolutely loves engaging with people and other dogs. She can run, play, and explore for long stretches, and still come home ready for more interaction.   That said, she is still a puppy and can become overstimulated. When she reaches that point, she responds very well to redirection. A treat tossed into her crate is often all it takes; she willingly settles in and falls asleep quickly for a solid rest.   Leash Skills, Drive & Travel   Praline walks well on leash and also enjoys running alongside her person. She is still learning not to criss-cross in front when running, but overall handles leash work well.   She does not bark at other dogs, even when they bark at her, which is notable given her age and energy level.   She loves chasing lizards, followed by birds and squirrels. She is an excellent car passenger and happily hops in for rides and adventures.   House & Crate Training   Praline is house trained, though she may have occasional accidents if she drinks a lot of water and wakes from a deep nap. With consistent outings every 3–4 hours, she does very well.   She is also crate trained. She sleeps in her crate through the night and will often choose to nap there during the day. The crate is an effective tool for helping her settle when she becomes overstimulated. She does not yet respond to the word 'crate', but happily goes in for a treat.   Training & Intelligence   Praline is extremely smart and highly food motivated, which makes her very trainable.   She quickly mastered an intermediate-level puzzle toy in just a few minutes and is already working on more advanced enrichment games. She has learned “sit” and “down” quickly, though she sometimes mixes them up as she continues to learn. She is currently working on “stay.”   She loves using her brain and thrives when given tasks, puzzles, or training sessions.   Ideal Home   Praline would do best in an active home that can match her energy and provide consistent structure, exercise, and enrichment. A home with another young, playful dog would be ideal, or an active family with older children who can participate in her energy and play needs.   She is best suited for someone who enjoys an engaged, interactive dog who wants to be part of everything.   Favorite Things   Praline’s foster home is full of favorite moments— watching her excitement when she sees her “regulars” for pets, her joy during fetch sessions, her dedication to food puzzles, and her comedic habit of collecting questionable treasures on walks.   She is equally lovable when she is zooming around outside or curled up for a peaceful nap. She brings a constant mix of chaos, intelligence, and affection that makes every day with her memorable. July 13, 2026, 2:24 pm

At 6–7 years old, this adorable little Chug has perfected the art of cozy living and is searching for a loving home where she can continue her career as a full-time cuddle companion.   Daily Routine   Starfruit keeps life simple and sweet. Her mornings begin around 10 AM with a potty break followed by breakfast. After that? Back to bed, naturally. She spends most of her day lounging comfortably in her favorite bed in the living room, though she insists on following her person from room to room like the world’s cutest little shadow.   She heads out again for potty breaks around 4 PM and 8 PM, with dinner served between 7–8 PM. By bedtime, Starfruit is happily curled up beside her human, ready for another peaceful night of snoring softly and conducting her adorable overnight “security checks.”   Every so often during the night, she’ll briefly wake up to make sure everyone is still present and accounted for. One reassuring arm stretch from her person, and she immediately settles back into dreamland. It’s both hilarious and ridiculously endearing.   Personality   Starfruit may be a sleepy couch potato, but underneath all those naps is an incredibly loving, sensitive, and devoted little dog. When she first arrived at her foster home, she was extremely timid. She spent her first day trembling quietly in her crate, unsure of her surroundings and hesitant to trust anyone.   With patience, gentleness, and plenty of comfort, Starfruit slowly began to open up. Now, she has completely blossomed into a cuddly, affectionate velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be near her favorite humans. She follows her foster everywhere, eagerly asks for pets throughout the day, and sleeps happily snuggled right beside them.   She’s also surprisingly smart and learns commands quickly—often after hearing them only a couple of times. She’s sensitive, attentive, and very in tune with her people. Correct her gently, and she immediately understands.   Starfruit’s only tiny diva moment? She refuses to eat plain kibble without a tasty topper. Honestly, she has standards.   Around Other Dogs & New Experiences   Though Starfruit was initially nervous around other dogs, she has grown much more confident over time. These days, she may cautiously greet other pups or give a brave little bark while simultaneously keeping one paw ready for a speedy retreat if necessary. It’s a very “I’m tough… but also maybe not” kind of energy.   She’s not particularly playful and would much rather lounge on the couch than chase toys around the house. However, mention the word “walk,” and suddenly Starfruit transforms into a happy-dancing social butterfly. Walks are absolutely the highlight of her day.   She walks nicely on leash and rarely pulls, except when approaching elevators or large trash cans, which she finds deeply suspicious and mildly terrifying.   Training & Manners   Starfruit is house trained, crate trained, and comfortable relaxing in a play pen. She’s quiet overall and only tends to bark when unfamiliar people appear at the front door.   She doesn’t chew, dig, or get destructive, and she has wonderfully calm house manners. She truly thrives in a peaceful, predictable environment.   Ideal Home   Starfruit would love a calm, loving home with people who appreciate a quieter, lower-energy companion. She doesn’t need endless adventures or constant activity—she just wants closeness, affection, soft beds, and someone to adore.   Because she’s a clingy little shadow, her future family should be prepared to have a permanent tiny assistant following closely behind them at all times. Personal space? Not really her thing.   She also sheds a little, but her foster says she more than makes up for it with her sweetness.   Why You’ll Fall in Love   Starfruit is the kind of dog who quietly sneaks into your heart and never leaves. She’s gentle, disciplined, affectionate, and incredibly easy to love. Her foster describes her as the ultimate stress reliever—especially when she’s curled up in their arms, snoring peacefully without a care in the world.   All Starfruit wants is love, cuddles, belly rubs, and someone who will cherish her exactly as she is. And honestly? That’s pretty easy to do. July 13, 2026, 2:24 pm

I got sesame 8 months ago at an adoption fair with my partner. Sesame just turned 10 two months ago. He loves car rides and is good with nature. Sesame is kind and doesn’t really bark at people or other dogs mainly just birds when they fly over him. He’s very friendly with everyone and loves treats. He loves to play fetch indoors and outdoors so a decently sized home would be good for him to run around in. He adjust easily to new environments just make sure he has toys to play with and he will be the happiest dog.

Story
Feather or Gus. We are neutered, chipped & vaccinated. We are Pug Schnauzer mix. Mom is 100% Pug & dad is Schnauzer/mini Poodle. We are 4 months old & our days consist of playing & taking naps. We are doing awesome with potty-training. Being 50% pug means we will shed. Even if you think maybe we won't because of our Schnauzer genes, it's better to assume that we will, because pugs shed a lot, so we won't be good in a home w/someone w/allergies. We are very playful. We are not crate-trained, although we do sleep in a playpen w/each other. We’ve never been alone before, so we will probably need to get used to it, or maybe someone will adopt who has a pup friend already. Tell us about yourself. Your location, your current pets, your work schedule & any info about your household. Adopt one... or maybe both!
