Adoption fee: $750 Ice Machine: The Coolest Little Companion Ice Machine is a petite, 4–5 year old Pug mix who has perfected the art of chilling.This sweet little lady is happiest curled up on the couch, sunbathing in the yard, riding shotgun on an adventure, or snoozing in a sling while the humans handle the walking. From Frozen to Thawed When Ice Machine first arrived, she seemed confused, withdrawn, and unsure of what to expect. She sat quietly away from everyone, avoided eye contact, and didn’t even wag her tail. Her foster family gave her the time and tenderness she needed—and slowly, this little Ice Machine began to thaw. Now she waddles over to greet her people when they come home, plants her tiny paws on their legs, and wags her tail with what looks like a great big smile. She cuddles, follows her family around the house, and loves being beside—or preferably on—a human. She is affectionate without being demanding and makes very little noise, aside from her signature Pug soundtrack of snorts and snores. Professionally Chill Ice Machine is currently much more couch potato than marathon runner. She isn’t interested in toys and sees no reason to exercise when there is a perfectly good couch nearby. Her ideal day involves scratches, naps, sunshine, and plenty of time with her people. She lives peacefully with dogs both larger and smaller than she is. Although she doesn’t initiate play, she enjoys gathering with the group for meals, lounging, and trips around the house or yard. She respects the other dogs’ boundaries, and there have been no issues with conflict or aggression. A calm canine companion could be helpful as she continues building confidence, particularly on walks. Ice Machine also does well when left home with the resident dogs. She has free access to the house and yard, where everyone appears to spend the day lounging on the couch or sunbathing. She does not bark, chew, dig, or get into trouble. In fact, she reportedly never barks at all. Her foster family hasn’t located the volume button yet. Have Sling, Will Travel Don’t mistake her low-energy lifestyle for a lack of adventure. Ice Machine loves being included! She has gone car shopping, dined in San Francisco, and visited the beach in Half Moon Bay. She rides beautifully in the car, either curled up on a lap or sleeping on a dog bed. Once she reaches her destination, she is happy to settle into a dog sling, peek out at the world, and promptly fall asleep. She is the kind of dog who attracts admirers everywhere she goes—and she is perfectly content to let her humans carry her while she accepts the compliments. A Day in the Icebox Ice Machine wakes around 6:30 a.m. with her foster family and eats a mixture of wet and dry food in her puppy pen. She uses a potty pad there after breakfast and is then taken outside for another potty opportunity. She has selected one particular patch of dirt as her preferred bathroom and remains unconvinced that grass is an acceptable substitute. Afterward, she joins the other dogs on the couch for cuddles and scratches. Dinner is served around 5:00 p.m., followed by another trip outside. Her family encourages a walk around the block in the evening, especially when the resident dogs can come along. At night, Ice Machine sleeps on a fluffy dog bed beside her foster sister’s bed. She settles down around 9:00 p.m., sleeps through the night, and holds her bladder until morning. Learning the Ropes—and the Leash Ice Machine appears to be largely housetrained and has not had accidents while roaming freely in the house. She can climb out of a puppy pen, so containment will need to be secure if her future family plans to use one. Walking on a leash is still a new skill. On her own, she may take a few steps and then sit down, but she is much more willing to walk when another dog leads the way. She currently weaves from side to side rather than walking neatly in one position. Her adopter should be prepared to continue building her confidence with patience, encouragement, and plenty of positive reinforcement. The Perfect Temperature Ice Machine would thrive in a stable, loving, relatively calm home where she can enjoy lots of affection and be included in everyday life. She would love a sunny yard, a comfortable couch, and people who want a lap dog and portable companion more than a hiking partner. She could live with respectful dogs and would likely appreciate having a confident canine friend to show her the ropes. This little girl is still discovering what it means to feel safe and deeply loved. Beneath her cautious exterior is an incredibly sweet, gentle companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. Her foster family has already fallen head over heels for her, and it’s easy to see why.
