Pug / Dachshund Mix Age: ≈ 4 years old Female, spayed 15 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Cheerio came to the Sacramento County Shelter underweight and with an embedded foxtail in her neck. It was removed surgically, but post-op they had trouble stopping the bleeding. She tested negative for any blood clotting disorder - perhaps the surgery nicked an artery? Eventually, the bleeding stopped, but it left her anemic. The shelter needed a rescue group that specializes in medical cases to continue addressing her veterinary needs. Over time in foster care, her anemia improved and she gained her weight back. She is a very friendly, sweet dog. She likes attention and affection from her foster parents and volunteers. She likes roughhousing with the younger, larger dogs in her foster home. She doesn’t like being confined or kept away from the activities of the home. Crate training would be pretty difficult - lots of barking. Apartment living may not be the best option for her. We have no experience with her as an only dog. We would recommend that she go to a home with other playful, friendly dogs. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. He can be a little shy around men at first, but give him some time and he’ll warm up like a microwaved baked potato—soft, comforting, and loyal to the core 🥔❤️. This good boy is crate trained, doesn’t bark in his crate (a true unicorn), and is perfectly content chilling with his favorite hard chew toys. Meet Truffle Shuffle! Who could resist this little butterball?? Truffle is a 6-year-old bulldog with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She’s full of character—your classic bulldog girl through and through. At first, Truffle can be timid and a little skittish with new people, but with a bit of patience, she warms up quickly. Once you’re in her circle, she’ll want nothing more than to be by your side and soak up all the love and pets you can give. (Boundaries? She’s not too familiar with that word! ?) Truffle does well with most dogs, especially calmer males, but she likes to be the queen of the house. Slow intros are the way to go to make sure she acclimates smoothly to a new environment and with other dogs. Good with cats too! She is not a good fit for homes with small children. When Truffles was first rescued from the shelter, she was in rough shape—painful ear infections, bad skin, eye infections, and struggling to breathe. She’s had two major airway surgeries (common in flat-faced breeds like bulldogs), along with her spay, and is now feeling so much better. Truffles is also slowly going blind and will require lifelong eye medication to keep her comfortable. It’s important to know that bulldogs and other brachycephalic dogs need extra care, especially in the heat.
