Story
Meet Gene Simmons, a pug born approx 4/15/22. Gene is a sweet dog and well behaved. He is mostly calm and rarely  barks but does reverse sneeze from time to time.  He has only been put in his kennel once while we've had him, and  he went in no problem, although he did whine and fuss when we left. He likes to chew on things but can be directed to just chew on his chew toys.  He is well behaved on walks. If we pass by a person, he ignores them. If  we pass by another dog, he is curious but does not get excited or aggressive. He has not been around kids or cats.  He does not seem to know any commands, but is learning "sit" and "come". He is also doing well on his potty training.   He loves to be scratched. He cannot wait to find his forever family!  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $585.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 24, 2026, 7:05 pm

Story
This sweet girl has come a long way from her past as a street pup living with a pack, and she’s embraced home life with so much joy. She’s mostly potty trained (just needs consistency in new environments), crate trained, and leash trained. Esther may be a little shy at first — she’ll need a few days to settle in and feel safe — but once she does, her personality absolutely shines. She is a happy go lucky pup that wants all the belly rubs! One of Esther’s most special qualities is how much she loves other dogs. She’s done beautifully with multiple dogs of all sizes and truly thrives in a pack environment. Having canine companions helps her feel confident and brings out her playful, happy side. She would do best in a home with another friendly dog (or two!) to help her continue to blossom. Esther is SO expressive, she’ll let you know she’s ready to play with grunts and sneezes, and she’ll nudge you and show off her snaggle-toothed smile until you join in. She loves pack walks, games of fetch, and then curling up for a cozy nap (ideally tucked under the covers right next to you). Because of her background, Esther will need a patient adopter who can give her time to adjust and continue building her confidence. She may be a bit of a flight risk until she settles in, so a secure environment and mindful transitions will be important. But with a little time and understanding, she will be the most lovely companion to your family. Esther is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 05/01/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.

Story
Trinket is exactly what his name suggests: a little treasure! He’s a sweet, gentle, and affectionate boy who is just a really good dog. Calm and easygoing, but still enjoys a bit of playtime, he strikes the perfect balance between chill cuddler and fun adventurer. Trinket wants attention and connection, and he’ll softly nuzzle into you or bury his head against you when he’s hoping for a few more pets, which his way of saying “please don’t stop” He does well with his crate when he’s gently encouraged, but he prefers to be able to see his people. If he can’t, he gets a bit unsure at bedtime, so he does best either sleeping nearby in the same room or snuggled in bed with you where he feels safe. He is a shy boy at first and will need time to build confidence in a new home. With patience, consistency, and kindness, Trinket slowly comes out of his shell and reveals his best boy personality. He’s super gentle, is just looking for a calm, caring place to land where he can feel secure and loved. Trinket is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 5/1/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Story
Looking for a little dog with a whole lot of heart? Meet Ian! Ian is a 1.5-year-old black and white sweetheart who proves every day that a rough start does not define your future. This pint-sized boy previously suffered a hip injury, which has healed beautifully, and his happy, playful spirit never missed a beat. Ian is fun, boisterous, and full of contagious joy. He loves attention, enjoys romping around with his toys, and is always ready for a cuddle when playtime winds down. He does well with other dogs and would make a wonderful addition to a home with canine friends. Ian also loves his food and is happily not picky. He eats from a slow-feeder bowl to help him enjoy his meals at a healthy pace and aid digestion. Medical Transparency (the important but reassuring part): Ian has Diabetes Insipidus, which is not the same as diabetes mellitus. This condition affects how his body concentrates urine and has nothing to do with blood sugar. • Oral medication only — no shots or injections • Takes medication twice daily to maintain healthy urine concentration and support full bladder emptying • Medication may be lifelong or temporary, depending on future veterinary guidance • Medication cost can vary depending on the veterinarian or pharmacy • Needs frequent potty breaks Ian does wonderfully on his routine and is otherwise a happy, active, affectionate young dog. He is looking for a loving home that will appreciate his joyful personality and continue his simple daily care so he can thrive for years to come. Are you ready to give this resilient, playful boy the forever home he deserves? Basic Info: Male, 1 yr old, Boston Terrier/Chihuahua, Coat: Black and White, neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots and preventions, preventatives. Local adoption fee (Texas) - $200 Out of state adoption (includes transport to your area) ‐ $450

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Opal is a gentle, affectionate English Bulldog with a heart full of love and a personality that melts everyone she meets. At home, she’s the ultimate cuddle companion—always ready for pets and snuggles, especially if it involves relaxing on the couch under a cozy blanket. When she’s comfortable, Opal is happy to settle in and relax, but she also enjoys following her people around the house like a loyal little shadow. One of her favorite moves is flopping onto the floor and rolling over the moment someone walks by, politely requesting belly rubs. Opal’s sweet and goofy nature shines through in everything she does. She has a charming little wobbly walk that makes her presence known wherever she goes, and it only adds to her lovable character. Outside the home, Opal is curious about the world around her and enjoys taking her time to sniff and explore new sights and smells. Meeting new people is one of Opal’s favorite activities. She greets strangers with a friendly demeanor and will often sit nicely in front of them, patiently waiting for the pets and attention she hopes will follow. Her calm, even-tempered personality makes her a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a gentle, affectionate dog. Opal is potty trained and reliably goes outside. She is crate trained and does well resting in her crate when needed. She is currently working on her leash skills and is making good progress—she should do just fine going out on leash for potty breaks and short walks. Opal already knows basic commands like “sit” and “wait,” showing she’s eager to learn and please. Opal is a senior girl with some arthritis, so she takes life at a slower pace and has a bit of a wobbly walk. She may need a helping hand with stairs, so her future family should be comfortable lifting her when needed. With her loving personality, goofy charm, and devotion to cuddles, Opal is a wonderful lap dog who is happiest simply being close to her people. She’s the perfect companion for someone looking for a sweet, gentle bulldog who will happily trade endless love for belly rubs. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  Bulldogs, pugs, and Boston terriers, Brussels Griffons, Pekingese and others are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure this breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average brachycephalic breed owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs. In addition to other surgeries, this dog may have had surgery on their nares and soft palate to improve the quality of their breathing.  This will be partially reflected within her adoption fee. These breeds are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for these breeds usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires a separate application and an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. This dog requires a Bulldog Application.  All applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application. To learn more, visit  https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/bulldogs/ to fill out the Bulldog application. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Come to the Underdog Headquarters (3345 Dakota Ave, St. Louis Park, 55416) on Thursday, April 23rd from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Sweet Agatha, a 9-year-old English Bulldog with a heart as soft as her squishy face. This sweet, mellow girl is looking for a forever home where she can do what she does best—binge watch TV, nap in the sun, and relax with her favorite people. Agatha is the definition of low-maintenance. While she enjoys a nice, easy walk, she’s just as happy (honestly, happier) spending her day snoozing, cuddling, and soaking up the calm energy of her home. She thrives in a relaxed, slow-paced environment and would be the perfect companion for someone who enjoys quiet days and cozy nights. She is fully potty trained and only goes outside, crate trained, and has wonderful house manners. Agatha is easy to care for—she does great with baths and nail trims, has healthy teeth, and has had no health concerns. She loves her daily routine—especially when it includes a few apple slices and her evening chew. Agatha loves people—both kids and adults—and tends to win over everyone she meets. She does well with other dogs in social settings like walks or the park, but in the home she prefers to be your one and only. She can get a little jealous when it comes to sharing her people, so she’s looking for a home with no other pets. Her favorite things include long naps, sunbathing, chewing on her favorite treats, and snacking on carrots and apples. She also has the cutest little heart-shaped marking in her fur—just one more reason everyone falls in love with her so quickly. Agatha does have a fear of thunderstorms, so she’ll appreciate a home that can offer her comfort during stormy weather. If you’re looking for a calm, loving, and easygoing companion who will happily be your shadow and your snuggle buddy, Agatha is your girl. Just be prepared—once people meet her, they’ll be asking for pictures. A lot of them. To learn more, visit https://underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/bulldogs/ to fill out the bulldog application.
