Name: Rooster Best Guess for Breed: Wirehaired terrier and pointer mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of May 2025 Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 43 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment. Special Adoption Considerations: Rooster is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. Balls for fetch? Let's find out! And dog school, too, so he can show how super fast he learns. Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved.
