We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Rags is a very friendly and chill Rottie mix who was luckily rescued by his foster. He was found walking down a median on a busy road in Detroit. Rags currently lives with several other dogs and is very loving and sweet. It appeared he was not very well taken care of when found. He has an overbite which was probably congenital that causes his tongue to stick out. He had heartworm disease when we first got him but he was treated and is now healthy and heartworm negative. Rags is about 75 pounds and estimated to be about 11 years old. Rags has a good personality and would love to finally find a wonderful new family to love and care for him. This fellow definitely deserves it. Please consider making him a new addition to your home or companion for another friendly dog.

Story
Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

I got Diamond two years ago from a pet store. Since she came, we have been a small family of 3. She has brought so much joy to my daughter. She is very active and playful. Looking to rehome her to a good loving home, who have the time to keep up with her activeness. The home who can be around her often.

Story
Royal King A18669438 lb. neutered male, approx 2 years old -This sweet boy was understandably nervous when he first stepped into the yard, trembling as he took in all the new sights and sounds. He quickly discovered that a lap and some reassurance made him feel much safer. After a few minutes of cuddles, his nerves settled and he began venturing out to explore on his own. Before long, he was coming right back to me and putting his paws up to ask for more attention.-He’s a skinny little guy who is very motivated by treats, which should make helping him learn his manners a lot of fun! He patiently sits for his snacks and was already making great progress with taking them more gently by the end of our time together. He’s receptive to learning and clearly wants to figure things out.-He isn’t interested in toys just yet, but he does enjoy affection and gives a few sweet kisses here and there. He also walks nicely with minimal pulling. Once he realized he was safe, we got to see more of his sweet personality come through. He’s a gentle boy who may just need a little patience, reassurance, and time to realize that the world isn’t so scary after all.-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Story
Dagmar A18668637 lb. neutered male, approx 2 years old -This handsome boy walks nicely on leash and is an absolute lap dog! He’s sweet, gentle, and clearly thinks the best place to be is as close to you as possible. He loves cuddling, attention, and especially belly rubs. Once the pets start, he gets so excited that his little legs go flailing everywhere! 😂-He likes treats, takes them nicely, and is working on his sit. He’ll sit briefly, but then starts creeping closer with his little tippy taps or an occasional jump because he just wants to be right there with you. He’s not currently interested in toys—people are much more exciting!-He’s a little on the skinny side, but he’s absolutely adorable and has such a sweet, affectionate personality. His photo shoot was a bit of a challenge because sitting still was apparently far less important than scooting closer to his favorite person.-And that sad face? Don’t let it fool you…he is NOT sad! 😂 He’s just got a naturally serious little face.-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper introsUnknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment.
