Story
Rags is a very friendly and chill Rottie mix who was luckily rescued by his foster. He was found walking down a median on a busy road in Detroit. Rags currently lives with several other dogs and is very loving and sweet. It appeared he was not very well taken care of when found. He has an overbite which was probably congenital that causes his tongue to stick out. He had heartworm disease when we first got him but he was treated and is now healthy and heartworm negative. Rags is about 72 pounds and estimated to be about 9 years old. Rags has a good personality and would love to finally find a wonderful new family to love and care for him. This fellow definitely deserves it. Please consider making him a new addition to your home or companion for another friendly dog.

Story
For months, Debo has been waiting by the door, hoping his dad would come home. When his owner was hospitalized, kind neighbors stepped in to care for him, believing it was only temporary—that soon, they’d see the joyful reunion of a dog and his best friend. But that day never came. His dad has passed away, and now Debo is left with a heart full of love and no one to give it to. At six years old, this big, gentle Rottweiler still has so much life left to live. He is as sweet as they come—affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s close to his people. He adores human companionship, greets everyone with warmth, and just wants to be loved in return. He’s crate trained, well-mannered, and great with kids and other dogs, though he does need slow introductions as he forms deep bonds and can be a little too eager to show his affection. Debo isn’t just looking for a home—he’s searching for someone to fill the space in his heart that his dad left behind. He’s looking for a family to lean on, someone who will reassure him that he’ll never be alone again. Right now, he’s in a temporary foster home, but his time there is running out. He needs a safe place, whether that’s a foster family to help him heal or a forever home where he can finally feel secure again. Debo has so much love to give. Could you be the one to give him a second chance? Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Story
Hi there! My name is Pollo, and I’m an exceptionally intelligent boy who’s been waiting for my forever home at FMAR for over five years. When I first arrived as a stray, I was in rough shape, but I’ve come a long way since then. Now, I’m ready to show someone just how wonderful I can be! Many people thought I was predominantly Pit Bull Terrier, but thanks to a DNA test done by a volunteer, I found out my true heritage! I’m made up of: * 52% Rottweiler * 27% American Pit Bull Terrier * 16% American Staffordshire Terrier * 3% American Bulldog You can really see my Rottweiler coloring shine in the sunlight! I have big dreams of becoming an agility dog! The volunteers here set up obstacle courses, and I absolutely love showing off my jumping skills. When I’m not being active, I enjoy relaxing in the yard and soaking up the sun. I might be a bit shy when meeting new people, but give me a few treats, and I’ll be your best friend in no time! I would thrive best with an experienced owner who understands my behavioral challenges. Nowadays, I’m fairly laid back and love spending time with the volunteers. Once I get to know someone, I quickly settle down and just crave a little love and affection. A few short walks or some time in a fenced backyard is all the exercise I need, and I enjoy mental stimulation through games and obedience commands. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who is eager to learn and love, come meet me, Pollo! I can’t wait to show you just how special I am. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to meet me, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. I am neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $250, which covers part of the medical care I have received. **Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates on their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Huevos A17407375 lb. neutered male, approx 5 years old -Slow and steady on walks-Loves to be laying near you for pets and belly rubs. I thought he may fall asleep if given more time.-If you stop petting him he’ll nudge your hand for more-Gives a few small kisses-He likes treats, sits and takes them ever so gently-He’s not interested in toys currently-He’s just an older, couch potato. He needs a soft spot to lay, some snacks and affection.-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30 BUT our adoptions are done 7 days a week from 10:30am -3:00pm. •The last potential adopter must arrive before 3:00 pm so we have time to properly help you before closing. **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit
