Story
We’ve had Luna since she was little. She grew up with two other dogs and with someone usually home. She is so sweet and loves to cuddle. She also loves going on walks. I am currently unable to keep her. I moved out and took her with me but I work long hours, she’s not used to being alone, and has been barking/howling a lot. My parents living situation also changed and they can’t keep her either. Additionally she needs consistent keep up with her eye medication (she has chronic dry eyes). She is almost blind as well so she needs someone patient with her as she transitions. She is also is in need of dental surgery. It takes her a while to get used to new dogs/ cats and people and she may bark at first. But eventually she warms up to them. She is truly a sweetheart but unfortunately I’m not in the living situation to keep her. I really want her to be in a happy loving home that is able to provide what she needs.

A precocious little miss who loves everybody and everything! A b/w, 15 lb, 2-3 yr old Shih Tzu terrier — Laynie came from the Lancaster shelter with a nasty UTI and kennel cough. Despite all that, she was happy and active, but had no appetite. Now, we can’t believe she is the same dog! It only took her about a week to start showing her personality, which — in addition to being very silly — is so affectionate it might catch you off guard! Hope you don’t mind her jumping up on you to let you know she wants your love! We have never seen a dog who loved driving in the car more than Laynie! Walk past the car with the door open and next thing you know, she’s behind the wheel ready to go!! She is a adorable character who will keep you smiling from ear to ear! On walks, Princess Laynie may announce to the other dogs that they are in her presence! She usually welcomes them, but she is really more interested in getting humans' attention. Ideal home for this sweetie would be with or without kids, with or without another dog, but definitely not without a lot of attention and love. Does that sound like your home? This sweet, beautiful, 9-10 yr old, 9 lb, tri colored Shih Tzu baby was dumped in the Palmdale Shelter a total mess. He supposedly had an adopter, but they never came to pick him up, so we were lucky enough to rescue him. Yahtzee may have one shrunken eye (probably no sight in it), but that doesn’t stop him from getting around great! His coat was filthy and his teeth looked like he had been eating dirt (probably attributing to a 2-3 grade heart murmur), he is a sweetheart who just wants to feel better and be loved! Now that he’s had his makeover, dental and is getting over a nasty, “bubble blowing” URI, Yahtzee is becoming a new boy! At this writing, we have yet to hear Yahtzee bark! He is very calm, easy going and a pleasure to warm your lap! He’s good with the other dogs, loves his walks and does his business on them. No guaranteeing he’s potty trained, but he sure can hold it!!! He likes to relax and sleep a bit while his body is recovering, so we haven’t seen a ton of personality yet, but we know it’s in there! The ideal home for Yahtzee would be one where he gets a lot of love and attention, along with patience. We don’t know his background, and we don’t know why he landed in the shelter at this age — but it shouldn’t happen to any dog Shih Tzu live long lives and his golden years should be with a family who will love and adore him. As much as he was/is loved by his previous pet mama, this 2 yr old, -9 lbs, tan/white Shih Tzu, life changes forced her to give him up. At only 2 yrs old, Koko was a little confused and unsure of his new circumstances or why he was leaving …but within a couple of days, he was giving us kisses, eating better and beginning to understand. That being said, Koko is not really comfortable with active/loud dogs/people around him, as he has been an only dog up to now. His mom reports that he is very quiet and will only bark or growl to protect you. He can sometimes hide to escape whatever is going on. We saw him kissing another dog this morning, so we think he is beginning to like having friends. He is getting better on the leash…but he is still a bit worried about unknown things around him. He has only been here a few days, but we actually heard him bark for the first time this morning! It’s really too soon to talk about his personality — but we know that he is a sweetheart and just wants to love and be loved! Mom reports he’s good with kids, cats, dogs, good in the car, LOVES his toys and is a wonderful companion once he knows you! We believe the ideal home for Koko would be one where he will get a lot of love and attention…and patience while he is getting to know you. Kids who are over 8+ yrs would be welcomed as long as the kids are gentle and understand dogs are not toys! He is very affectionate once he trusts you. PIPPI….a pretty little Miss who was dumped in the Chesterfield South LA shelter because her family didn’t have time for her. This 12 lb, 1-2 yr old, b/w Shih Tzu mix was absolutely petrified and was very snappy in the shelter. Poor girl crouched in the back of the kennel shaking like a leaf!! When we saw her, we realized she was not aggressive, but reactive to the unknown…and there was a lot of that in the shelter. Cut to: Almost a week out of the shelter, Pippi is starting to come out of her shell. She loves to play with toys and will even fetch and bring the toy back to you!! She is very quiet, unless she is all alone and getting no attention…then she might let you know she’s there by nosing your hand to solicit a pet! Once you give her love and she sees you are a friend, she is loving and affectionate. She is young and smart but was not properly socialized, so it might take a minute for her to understand who you are and what to do. The ideal home/family for Pippi would be one that can be patient with her and give her unconditional love and affection slowly, but surely. Because of her lack of socializing, we believe an adult only home would be the best for her, as she has demonstrated a little fear around strangers (mainly men) or people who do not give her time to get to know her. She responds pretty quickly and wants to trust. It would be best for her to have a yard, as she was never walked so she doesn’t know that’s where she is supposed to do her business! At this time, she is going on the PP pads and always hitting her mark! She is a lovely girl and will be an exceptional companion to the right home. An active lifestyle, no children, would be the best scenario. When you look into her eyes and see the love, you’ll be smitten 🙂 Come and get her! Our website is updated daily. 🖤 Meet Onyx 🖤 At just 2 years old, Onyx has already overcome more than any dog should have to. Onyx came to our rescue from another rescue that was quietly shutting down. The dogs we received were living in heartbreaking conditions—covered in urine and feces, with severely overgrown nails and little to no proper care. Despite everything she endured, Onyx’s spirit remains bright, loving, and full of joy. When Onyx was a puppy, she suffered an injury that was never treated. As a result, one of her legs never developed properly, and the muscles became completely atrophied. The leg is noticeably smaller than her others, but the good news is that she still has some use of it, gets around remarkably well, and it does not cause her pain. After consulting with veterinarians, it was decided that amputation was not necessary. In fact, Onyx gets around so well that she currently walks 3–4 city blocks before hopping into a stroller for a short rest, then happily gets back out and walks another 2–3 blocks. Don’t let her special needs fool you—Onyx loves to play! She is dog-friendly, enjoys romping around with her canine friends, and keeps up surprisingly well despite her bad leg. She also has the cutest little underbite that makes her impossible not to fall in love with. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and ready to find the forever family she has always deserved. All she wants is a safe home, a soft bed, and people who will love her for the incredible dog she is. Could you be the happy ending to Onyx’s story? 🐾
