Story
**We adopt our dogs to families within 50 miles of Grants Pass, Oregon. All applications are screened for compatibility with the dog of interest. We will ask for pictures of your home and yard. If you are interested in being considered as a potential adopter, please fill out our online application at: www.samsimonfoundation.org. Follow the tabs to 'dogs for adoption'. Kiko is a 16 pound, neutered male Shih Tzu, approximately 5 years old. He has a few 'special needs' so we are looking for an adopter that has experience with his breed and temperament. He can be feisty and he needs someone who can interpret his behavior for what it is and not be afraid of him. He truly can be sweet and cuddly and fun to be with. He just needs the right home where he feels safe and understood. He will need someone that can afford the extra expense of his dog food and grooming. He doesn't like being groomed or handled in that way and he will snap at anyone that tries to do those things. He will need a muzzle and possibly be sedated at the vet and the groomer. Kiko is very sweet and loyal and loves all people. He's confident in public places and loves going for car rides. He will bark excitedly at other dogs but we have worked on this and he is improving. He will need continued training to maintain these improvements. He doesn't like being left home alone so an adopter that is home most of the time would be best. He is selfish about his resources around other dogs, especially when it comes to squeaky toys and other items that he cherishes. For that reason, we are not going to place him in a home with other dogs nor children under age 10. He does share his toys well with adult humans. Kiko is healthy except for occasional crystals in his urine which, if left untreated, will lead to bladder/kidney stones and urinary tract infections. We keep his urinary tract healthy with a simple prescription diet designed for dogs with this tendency. He is currently eating a high-quality prescription diet for dogs with urinary issues from a company called Just Food For Dogs. This food is human quality food specially designed for dogs. It is an expensive food but the benefit of it is that he likes it and it is keeping him healthy. As a housebroken and well-mannered indoor companion, Kiko is ready to bring joy and companionship to his forever home. While he'd love a house with a yard, he's not suited for apartment or condo living. If you're looking for a loyal friend to share your life with, Kiko might be the perfect fit. With his loving personality and adaptable nature, he's sure to steal your heart. No one will ever love you more than Kiko!

Story
Xander was found locked inside a cage on the side of a freeway with two other dogs. Likely hundreds of people drove by and did nothing, but one kind woman stopped to help. Her name is Anna and we thank her for saving their lives. They had no collars, tags, or microchips. We don't know exactly how long they were out there, but by the looks of it, it was likely several days. They had no food or water. Their paws were so caked in dried poop that they were stuck to the metal cage and couldn't move. Now they are safe and thriving at Shelter Hope. We named them Xander, Buffy, and Angel! Xander is an 8 y/o Shih-Poo weighing about 10 pounds. Of the three, he was in the roughest shape. His fur was severely matted and filthy, and he was limping. We also took him in for a dental, and they had to remove 5 of his teeth. He has arthritis in his back legs, but it hasn’t dampened his joyful spirit. He is incredibly sweet, playful, and happy, with a calm, easygoing personality. Xander gets along well with other dogs, is friendly, and is truly a pleasure to be around, despite everything he has endured. Now neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption, Xander is looking for a forever home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and cherished just as he deserves! More from his foster: Xander is not a shy pup. He immediately felt comfortable around my other two boy dogs and made himself at home by laying on all three of the beds that are in the living room. Considering the conditions he was found in he is not aggressive at all. I was able to brush out some of his knots, and he did not react to the brushing. He gets around just fine around the home. Enjoys our long walks in a sling bag. He loves relaxing in the cool grass and even rolls around in it if he has the urge. And boy does he have an appetite! She eats his food with no problem, even though he just lost some teeth. He would be a great addition to any home that wants a chill dog! ---- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Story
Woofies is a small 7-year-old Shih Tzu who was found on the streets of Bakersfield with no collar, tag, or microchip. A Good Samaritan searched for his owner, but sadly, nobody came forward. Unfortunately, Bakersfield has become a dumping ground for dogs, and we believe Woofies was abandoned. Despite everything he’s been through, Woofies is incredibly gentle and sweet. He is a friendly, happy boy who is kind with people and gets along well with other dogs and kids. His coat is a little matted right now, but once he gets a proper grooming, it will be absolutely beautiful. We’re still getting to know his personality, but it’s clear he’s a loving companion ready for a family who will give him the care and attention he deserves. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Woofies is ready for his second chance! ----- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Nico was given to me as a pup. He’s been showing signs of aggressiveness since a puppy. He still likes to play at times and gets happy when we walk in the door. He is very unpredictable though. He is very smart though and mostly only gets upset when he gets picked up

Story
PLEASE READ THIS PROFILE AND THE REQUESTED CRITERIA BEFORE CALLING OR SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND CONSIDERATION MEET OLIVER….a precocious, happy, sweet-as-sugar 12.5 lbs, 3-4 yr old, tan/white Shih Tzu, with an underbite that enters the room before he does! Everyone who has met Oliver comment on how joyful he is — from the vet to the groomer — and we have to agree We had to include a picture of Oliver with all the toys he collected to illustrate how much he loves toys! He will chase after them and grab one from wherever he is…but gently and not aggressively! We have yet to hear him bark, but he doesn’t like being left alone so another pup must be in his future. We would also like his family to be around to give him a lot of love and attention, which he will return multiple times over! He is a great eater, and if there are other dogs around he might check out what they have in their bowls to make sure he has the best one! But when you direct him back to his bowl, he is compliant! Oliver also loves to get belly rubs and if you are looking to calm him down, that’s the way to do it….he actually goes into nirvana until the belly rub is over — and if he isn’t sleeping, he is busy kissing your face all over…one of his favorite things to do! The ideal home for Oliver, as mentioned above, is one where there is another dog, an attentive family, kids over 8 yrs old and lots of love. Does that sound like your home? Our website is updated daily. Please do not apply for this dog unless your home fits the specified criteria. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, groomed, vet checked, dewormed, deflea'd and come with a leash, collar and ID If you are interested in adopting a pup from Lhasa Happy Homes, please complete the Adoption Application before calling. We will contact you once it has been reviewed. Lhasa Happy Homes will be now holding our adoption events the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month on Main Street in Santa Monica (check calendar link below for special events and directions). Our event is located at 2116 Main Street, in Santa Monica, CA. Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household. Main Street is famous for its innovative shops and is close to the beach! Make a day of it!! Metered parking on the street and free parking on 4th and Bicknell Streets. Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household....and do some fantastic shopping at the same time! Please do call us if you are coming to see a particular dog to make sure he/she will be at adoptions (we do not bring sick dogs to our adoption events). Please bring pictures or video of your home and yard if we have not done a home check (preferred)! Most importantly, if you have a dog, make sure you bring him or her to do a compatibility match with the dog you are interested in adopting! Don't forget to check out our Events Calendar for more information on upcoming events! See our home page for more details about our adoptions at Lhasa Happy Homes Thanks for thinking rescue and adoption and for considering saving a life.
