Story
Noel was found outside a 7-Eleven in Inglewood with no microchip, alone, scared, and covered in fleas. A Good Samaritan took her in and searched for an owner. After her 10-day stray hold was complete, it had become clear that Noel had been dumped. Shelter Hope heard her story and welcomed her with open arms. After a vet visit and a much needed grooming, Noel is feeling much more comfortable. Thanks to the Peewee Fund, founded by a generous donor in honor of senior dogs, Shelter Hope was able to take her in and give her the the vetting she needed. This tiny 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighs only 8 lbs. She’s a sweet, affectionate girl who finds comfort being close to her person and would love to be someone’s quiet little shadow. Noel enjoys pets, cuddles, and cozy lap time, though she’s a bit sensitive about being lifted off the ground. She does well with other dogs and is good on a leash too! Noel has an eye ulcer and will need daily eye medication in both eyes for life. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Noel is ready for a patient, loving home where she can relax, feel safe, and be adored just as she deserves! More from her foster: Day one of fostering Noel made herself right at home. She is sweet, calm and loves to cuddle every chance she gets. She is great around other dogs. She loves long walks. She kinda just does her own thing and watches from a distance when my two dogs play with each other. Nothing startles her other than when somebody coughs, and she’ll just get up and walk away. Applying her eye drops is easy, she is laidback and doesn’t fight. Noel is the perfect dog for somebody who wants a calm and cuddly companion! ----- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Story
Woofies is a small 5-year-old Shih Tzu who was found on the streets of Bakersfield with no collar, tag, or microchip. A Good Samaritan searched for his owner, but sadly, nobody came forward. Unfortunately, Bakersfield has become a dumping ground for dogs, and we believe Woofies was abandoned. Despite everything he’s been through, Woofies is incredibly gentle and sweet. He is a friendly, happy boy who is kind with people and gets along well with other dogs and kids. His coat is a little matted right now, but once he gets a proper grooming, it will be absolutely beautiful. We’re still getting to know his personality, but it’s clear he’s a loving companion ready for a family who will give him the care and attention he deserves. Now fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Woofies is ready for his second chance! ----- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Story
**We adopt our dogs to families within 50 miles of Grants Pass, Oregon. All applications are screened for compatibility with the dog of interest. We will ask for pictures of your home and yard. If you are interested in being considered as a potential adopter, please fill out our online application at: www.samsimonfoundation.org. Follow the tabs to 'dogs for adoption'. Kiko is a 16 pound, neutered male Shih Tzu, approximately 5 years old. He has a few 'special needs' so we are looking for an adopter that has experience with his breed and temperament. He can be feisty and he needs someone who can interpret his behavior for what it is and not be afraid of him. He truly can be sweet and cuddly and fun to be with. He just needs the right home where he feels safe and understood. He will need someone that can afford the extra expense of his dog food and grooming. He doesn't like being groomed or handled in that way and he will snap at anyone that tries to do those things. He will need a muzzle and possibly be sedated at the vet and the groomer. Kiko is very sweet and loyal and loves all people. He's confident in public places and loves going for car rides. He will bark excitedly at other dogs but we have worked on this and he is improving. He will need continued training to maintain these improvements. He doesn't like being left home alone so an adopter that is home most of the time would be best. He is selfish about his resources around other dogs, especially when it comes to squeaky toys and other items that he cherishes. For that reason, we are not going to place him in a home with other dogs nor children under age 10. He does share his toys well with adult humans. Kiko is healthy except for occasional crystals in his urine which, if left untreated, will lead to bladder/kidney stones and urinary tract infections. We keep his urinary tract healthy with a simple prescription diet designed for dogs with this tendency. He is currently eating a high-quality prescription diet for dogs with urinary issues from a company called Just Food For Dogs. This food is human quality food specially designed for dogs. It is an expensive food but the benefit of it is that he likes it and it is keeping him healthy. As a housebroken and well-mannered indoor companion, Kiko is ready to bring joy and companionship to his forever home. While he'd love a house with a yard, he's not suited for apartment or condo living. If you're looking for a loyal friend to share your life with, Kiko might be the perfect fit. With his loving personality and adaptable nature, he's sure to steal your heart. No one will ever love you more than Kiko!
