Bubbles and her sister Buttercup were surrendered to a kill shelter because their owners just had too many and couldn’t find homes on their own. Their mom is a long-haired Chihuahua and their daddy is a Shih Tzu and they were born on February 2nd last year so they are now a year old. Bubbles has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She’s also microchipped. She weighs about 10 pounds and is full grown now. Bubbles is great at the Vet and The Groomer and loves riding in the car. She needs a little practice on the leash and she’s making great progress on house training. Bubbles is a very friendly and a super snuggler! She and Buttercup are very bonded and we would very much like to get them a home together. They are so funny together! They play and run zoomies around the house. They would do well with older children and we have not had them around cats but we feel like she would be fine with proper introduction.   Meet River Gucci, a charming 3 year old Shih Tzu male that recently had been living with a disabled man who had no car and very limited funds that did not include grooming dollars nor really food and vetting for this sweet boy.  His owner loved him and realized that River Gucci deserved a more stable and financially secure home to care for him.  We have found this perfect little guy to be a totally perfect boy that loves to be held like a baby and falls asleep in your arms as you rub his tummy.  Charming is a wonderfully accurate and descriptive word to describe River Gucci.  At just 11 lbs this Shih Tzu boy was handed over to Critter Cavalry with mats and a need for a total grooming shave down. In no time he will be a long haired luxurious gentleman that will prance and dance his way into everyone's heart.  He is resilient and pretty much housebroken and delights in being around his foster mom and all her little dogs.  He is not afraid of large dogs either.  What a brave and secure little guy he is!  Personality & Traits:  - Temperament: Sweet, calm, and very affectionate]  - Socialization: Gets along well with other dogs and enjoys the company of people]  - Energy Level: Low to moderate; enjoys short walks and plenty of lap time]  - Training: is under evaluation. Black and white Shih Tzu adult Backstory for Stanley Stanley found himself in an overcapacity animal control facility that euthanizes due to lack of space. He was abandoned at a "friends" house by someone who left the state and never returned. He arrived to the animal control facility neglected, not neutered, and with a damaged eye. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to pull him to safety to give him a second chance at life.    Get to Know Stanley age: 6-8 years breed: Shih Tzu  weight: approximately 16 pounds  Vaccines and treatments:  Rabies  Bordetella  DHPP, part one and two  Dewormer  Flea/tick prevention  Other tests and procedures:  Heart worm test - negative  Fecal test - negative  Urinalysis to help treat initial infection which has been resolved  Neuter surgery Additional procedures:  • Eye enucleation of his left eye that was too infected to repair • Microchipped • Laser therapy to help with initial pain from infection which is now gone • Bloodwork - some elevated WBC and BUN due to infection when he was pulled to safety. It has been checked twice so far, and numbers are decreasing to show he is healing. Kidney levels are higher than normal range and should be rechecked in a few months. Stanley should be fed a lower protein diet to keep his kidneys functioning well. Veterinary care costs given to Stanley by Animal Saints Rescue Society, based upon NYC area pricing, is $3,500+ Requested adoption donation fee is only $750. This is to partly cover his lifesaving expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give him a second chance at life. Breed and Hair Notes  Stanley has hair and not fur. He loves attention, and giving him treats through it all makes it even more fun for him.  Personality Stanley is a gentle bloke who wants a quiet existence with his people nearby. It seems as though he has spent most of his life inside. He goes potty on potty pads, and he loves to nap on any available sofa.  Stanley is not thrilled about the outdoors, though he is just starting to show signs of enjoying it. He is timid about going for walks at present. In time, we can see him gaining confidence outside. For now, he will be your best friend inside by the fireside. He has met several dogs of all ages, and he enjoys their company. He is the quiet boy in the group, letting the bolder ones move forward while he waits for attention.  Stanley is incredibly sweet and an all-around heart melter.  He can see well out of his remaining eye. Given he is without his left eye, he can be startled if approached from his left side. He gets around well and has adjusted brilliantly after his surgery.  Basic foundational skills training sessions with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer are required for Stanley's adoption. Just a few classes are needed, and they are fun. Their former person was having emergency medical issues that were life threatening, and they were not well enough to take care of them. Our nonprofit became the safety net for the Shih Tzu. Animal Saints is here to help so these Saints do not end up in overcrowded government animal control facilities that euthanize due to lack of space.  Jemma recently arrived to our sanctuary to get all of the medical care she needs. Now that we have gotten to know her personality and she has shown us what she needs in a family, she is ready to be placed in her lifetime home. We look forward to finding out who this will be!  Get to Know Jemma age: 5 years (birthdate 4.6.2021) breed: Shih Tzu weight: 9 pounds Jemma is full grown but very small, a true "Imperial" sized Shih Tzu. Vaccines:  Rabies  DHPP Bordetella  Corona/flu  Other Tests and Procedures:  Spayed in June, 2026 4DX test (passed and tested negative for heart worm, lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis)   Dental cleaning in June, 2026  Bloodwork June, 2026 - All numbers within normal ranges and nothing concerning.  Additional procedures and treatments:  • Microchipped • Fecal test, negative • Flea/tick preventive treatment, heart worm prevention, and dewormer  • First positive reinforcement training sessions  • Several baths and grooms. Jemma arrived with flea bites and scabs on her back, and the hair there is thinner because of it. As her skin heals, her hair is starting to grow in.  A certificate of veterinary good health will be provided with her medical records. Requested adoption donation fee is only $800. This is to partly cover the costs of care that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue has incurred. On average, Animal Saints’ cost to save a life through our nonprofit exceeds $2,000 per Saint. We do our best to keep our adoption requests as reasonable as possible to encourage more people to adopt.   Breed and Hair Notes  Jemma has hair and not fur. She is a rare liver hued Shih Tzu. She’s had a few since arriving, and she loves the attention.  Personality Jemma’s soulful eyes speak volumes of her nature and disposition. She is gentle, sweet, earnest, and yearning to connect to humans. She is usually one of the first to greet volunteers when they come through the door. She will just stand there and try to lock eyes, wagging her tail the entire time. Hugs are always welcomed by her.  Jemma is a great “office assistant.” Our volunteers do office work in her well-appointed apartment here at the sanctuary. The moment they sit down to do work, she runs to the bed next to them to hang out. She asks to get picked up for hugs, and she loves a good nap in a lap. But she is not pushy about requests. She will follow your lead.  Jemma is getting familiar with a harness and leash. She has spent most of her time inside during the first part of her life, and she’s starting to get used to being outside. We are working on “sit,” recall word “here,” and “look.” We expect her new family to continue her training sessions to keep her safe in her new life with them. He was frightened of the water at first, but now he realizes that it feels good and likes to be pampered. He gives kisses while he’s on the grooming table, showing gratitude for the attention he needs. Personality Bueller is a deeply soulful and loving Animal Saint. His eyes speak of the depth of his love and eagerness to connect. He is shy initially and is hesitant around men at first. Once he realizes he is safe, he is exuberant with his affection. He is as gentle as they come. His hugs make us melt. He knows we are helping him, and he shows us his gratitude every day. Bueller seems to have been quite sheltered and has not had a lot of interaction with many humans. Once he gains confidence and follows the lead of his person, we know he will come out of his shell. It will be rewarding for his new person to watch him flourish!  Bueller has gladly taken on the “big brother” role with the newcomers. The younger Saints look to him in awe and crave his attention and affection. He is very patient with the rest of the boys and his flat mates. Note: we do NOT have kennels here. Rather, we assign flats, or well-appointed apartments, to every Animal Saint we help. Bueller lets the others cuddle up to him and sleep on him.  Bueller takes their attention and admiration in stride. While he loves being around other canines, what he really wants more than anything is his person. He has taken to the director here at the sanctuary, and he dances with joy when he sees her. We know this will easily transition to his new person. When we find the ideal match for him, he’ll be dancing and asking for hugs and kisses in no time.  Bueller LOVES to give kisses on the cheek and will reach up from the floor to try and offer them. He is so very affectionate and sweet.  Bueller is getting familiar with a harness and leash.
