Story
Oreo is a sweet and timid 2.5 lb Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix born in foster care on 11/19/2025. She is a very careful listener; as you can see in the attached video, she has already successfully picked up the "sit" command. Oreo is a bit clumsy, but she is very affectionate and always likes to have physical contact with people or other dogs. While she is quite playful with others, she hasn't shown much interest in toys just yet but would love a home with a canine companion to show her the ropes. Due to her small size, a home with young children is not appropriate. Given her age, her new home should have the time and patience required to continue her basic training. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
Shih Tzu puppy fully vetted and ready for adoption.Backstory for Jasper Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with a hoarding situation where several litters of puppies were born in quick succession. Dozens of Shih Tzu were living in a very small apartment when hobby breeding quickly became untenable. It is an honor to help get all of the adults neutered so the breeding stops, as well as ensure that the babies are placed with lifetime families.     Get to Know Jasper Age: 9 months Breed: Shih Tzu birthdate: 2.20.2025 Weight: approximately 10 pounds. He is 85% of his full size. He could stay this size or gain another pound. Vaccines and treatments:  Rabies  Bordetella  DHPP, part one and two   Other tests and procedures for the litter:  Heart worm test - negative  Erlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme test - negative Fecal test - negative  Additional procedures:  Microchipped Bloodwork -- in normal and healthy ranges Neuter surgery in October, 2025 Requested adoption donation fee is only $900. This is to partly cover his veterinary bills and care expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to help him. Breed and Hair Notes  Jasper has hair and not fur. He is a stunning white Shih Tzu with the sweetest smile and tongue. He is incredibly handsome and distinguished, even as a baby! PLEASE NOTE: Jasper's hair will grow as it is not fur. He will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Jasper has been amazing for his baths, haircuts, and nail trims. He will even just lay down on the grooming table, thankful for the attention, love, and care given to him. Personality Jasper is incredibly loving and playful. He loves to wrestle and nap with his littermate named Ivy, as well as the other puppies we are helping at present. He's also become friends with some of the older Saints like Stanley here in the sanctuary. His favourite thing in the world is to be hugged and carried around.  Ideal Home It is ideal for Jasper to be in a home with other small dogs and/or very dog friendly cats around. He would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if his people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case. Jasper will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. Jasper would be okay for a few hours on his own with his siblings if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you’re away.  Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Jasper. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.  If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Jasper. He is going to be a little boy, even full grown. He will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. Jasper is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word. His goal is to love and be loved.  Love and Commitment  At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need.  Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!     December 2, 2025, 6:38 pm

Story
Backstory for Toby Toby found himself in an overcapacity animal control facility that euthanizes due to lack of space. He was an owner surrender, dropped off to be euthanized because they didn’t want to care for him anymore. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to pull him to safety to give him a second chance at life.    Get to Know Toby age: 7 breed: Shih Tzu blend weight: approximately 16 pounds  Vaccines and treatments:  Rabies  Bordetella  DHPP, part one and two  Dewormer  Flea/tick prevention  Other tests and procedures:  Heart worm test - negative  Fecal test - negative  Neuter surgery Additional procedures:  • Microchipped • Dental  • Bloodwork - normal ranges overall showing healthy organs. He has a grade 1 heart murmur that was only heard by one out of two veterinarians who examined him. He does not need any medication for it, and we hope that with proper nutrition and a safe environment, it will not be heard again. He currently has dry eye that involves some basic dry eye drops. He is so good about getting them, especially when there is a treat involved. Now, he sees the eye drop bottle and starts to wag his tail! Veterinary care costs given to Toby by Animal Saints Rescue Society, based upon NYC area pricing, is $2,000+ Requested adoption donation fee is only $750. This is to partly cover his lifesaving expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give him a second chance at life. Breed and Hair Notes  PLEASE NOTE: Toby’s hair will grow as it is not fur. He is a blend of Shih Tzu and… we are not certain what else! What do you see? Whatever incredible blend he is, he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Toby is healing from an untreated skin infection before coming into our care, and he needs medicated baths weekly at present. As he continues to get good nutrition and comfort in a safe home, this will be diminished over time. He loves baths and loves the attention, and it’s a special way to connect with him.  Personality Toby is a quiet gentleman who is so ready to be by his person’s side all the time. He is so regal. Even his gate is elegant! As he heals from his past neglect, his magnificence shines through. He is stunning and charming. We are especially impressed with his loyalty. He follows our volunteers wherever they go. When they work where he resides, he will lay by their feet in a bed. He does not demand to be the center of attention. He just wants to be included. His readiness to connect and love is so moving after all he’s endured. He deserves to be at the center of someone’s life for the rest of his days!  Toby goes potty on pads indoors, and he likes going outdoors to potty as well. He will get into your routine in time.  We are working on leash training right now, and he is doing well with walking. He would enjoy taking short walks in nature or in quiet neighborhoods with sidewalks. He has been gentle meeting other dogs here in our sanctuary and enjoys meeting new people.  Basic foundational skills training sessions with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer are required for Toby’s adoption. Just a few classes are needed, and they are fun. It’s an excellent way to connect with your newly adopted Saint, too.  You can enjoy meeting Toby in his short film:  Ideal Home It is ideal for Toby to be in a home with adults and possibly older and very, very respectful children who have good experience around dogs.  Toby is human focused, though he would enjoy gentle and laidback siblings.  Toby will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. He would be okay for a few hours on his own if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you’re away. But he is very much in want of a person around.  Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Toby. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing.  If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for sauntering about for exercise and can safely give him frequent walks on a leash, this is ideal for dear Toby. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical needs.  We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family. They do not view them as subordinates to humans or mere possessions but view them as partners in life. They are committed to giving them a safe and loving home with dignity and respect. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application!         January 11, 2026, 9:00 pm
