Buttercup and her sister and brother, Bubbles and Brodie were surrendered to a kill shelter because their owners just had too many and couldn’t find homes on their own. Their mom is a long-haired Chihuahua and their daddy is a Shih Tzu and they were born on February 2nd this year so they are 8 months old. Buttercup has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She’s also microchipped. She weighs just under 7 pounds and is probably full grown now. Buttercup is great at the Vet and The Groomer and loves riding in the car. She needs a little practice on the leash and she’s making great progress on house training. Buttercup is a little bossy but plays great with her brother and sister. we feel like she would be fine with other dogs after getting to know them but would always want to be the boss. She would be fine with older children and we are not sure about cats but the bossy part would be the same at first. Pansy is one of 13 dogs recently rescued from unsanitary living conditions in Passaic when their owner was being evicted. The dogs were all scared, matted, and not socialized outside the home but are all warming up nicely and sweet little ones once they feel safe. They LOVE other dogs and rely on them for security, so will need to be adopted into homes that have another friendly dog in the household OR can be adopted in compatible pairs. They will all need some patience walking on leash and working on housebreaking, typical of dogs from puppy mill and hoarding situations but this crew is very people-focused and soaking up all the attention they are getting. They are currently in the process of being vetted, groomed, and spayed/neutered and will be ready for homes very soon... please submit an application to meet them by appointment once they are ready. Shih Tzu puppy fully vetted and ready for adoption.Backstory for Jasper Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to help with a hoarding situation where several litters of puppies were born in quick succession. Dozens of Shih Tzu were living in a very small apartment when hobby breeding quickly became untenable. It is an honor to help get all of the adults neutered so the breeding stops, as well as ensure that the babies are placed with lifetime families. Get to Know Jasper Age: 9 months Breed: Shih Tzu birthdate: 2.20.2025 Weight: approximately 10 pounds. He is 85% of his full size. He could stay this size or gain another pound. Vaccines and treatments: Rabies Bordetella DHPP, part one and two Other tests and procedures for the litter: Heart worm test - negative Erlichia, Anaplasma, and Lyme test - negative Fecal test - negative Additional procedures: Microchipped Bloodwork -- in normal and healthy ranges Neuter surgery in October, 2025 Requested adoption donation fee is only $900. This is to partly cover his veterinary bills and care expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to help him. Breed and Hair Notes Jasper has hair and not fur. He is a stunning white Shih Tzu with the sweetest smile and tongue. He is incredibly handsome and distinguished, even as a baby! PLEASE NOTE: Jasper's hair will grow as it is not fur. He will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Jasper has been amazing for his baths, haircuts, and nail trims. He will even just lay down on the grooming table, thankful for the attention, love, and care given to him. Personality Jasper is incredibly loving and playful. He loves to wrestle and nap with his littermate named Ivy, as well as the other puppies we are helping at present. He's also become friends with some of the older Saints like Stanley here in the sanctuary. His favourite thing in the world is to be hugged and carried around. Ideal Home It is ideal for Jasper to be in a home with other small dogs and/or very dog friendly cats around. He would not do well in a home as the only dog, especially if his people are gone all day at work. Families with children are case-by-case. Jasper will especially thrive in a home that can give him companionship day and night. Jasper would be okay for a few hours on his own with his siblings if you provided him with puzzles and things to do while you’re away. Plan on sharing your sofa and bedroom with Jasper. He will want to be by your side, no matter where you are and what you are doing. If you have a very secure fenced-in backyard for running and playing, this is ideal for Jasper. He is going to be a little boy, even full grown. He will need exercise but not miles and miles of daily hiking like a working dog. Jasper is a companion animal in the truest sense of the word.
