Story

Prints is an almost 2 year old Shih Tzu. He’s energetic and lovable. Loves to cuddle and play with kids and other dogs. We brought him to NY all the way from SC for my daughter as a Christmas gift. We love him so much and hate that we have to give him up due to relocating to a place that doesn’t allow pets. Everyone that encounters our Prints loves him instantly. He’s a great companion.

Story

Reba is a senior dog who was rescued from a breeder and is now looking for a quieter, more comfortable home. She tends to do best with another dog around, as she enjoys the company and takes comfort in having a companion nearby. She’s looking for an adopter with prior dog experience who understands the needs of a senior dog and can keep her mentally engaged with a steady routine and simple enrichment. Reba doesn’t need anything overly demanding, but she does best when she has consistency and gentle guidance.

Story

Meet Ralph, a 19 pound Shih Tzu who is approximately 10 years old and has absolutely no intention of acting his age. Ralph was abandoned overnight outside the Animal Shelter in pretty rough shape, and after everything this little guy has been through, you might think he'd be feeling sorry for himself. Not Ralph. He seems to have decided that these are actually the best years of his life, and he's going to enjoy them exactly how he wants. Ralph is a classic old man. He is bossy, stubborn, opinionated, and completely convinced that his way is the right way. He likes what he likes, does what he wants, and has no problem ignoring you completely before suddenly barking at you for attention as if you are the one who has been neglecting him. He enjoys leisurely strolls around the yard, marking approximately every square inch like he personally owns the property, and generally conducting important old man business. And when he's ready for attention, you will absolutely hear about it. Ralph isn't looking for a home where someone is constantly fussing over him or trying to make him do things he doesn't want to do. He would do best without small children, where he can enjoy his retirement in peace and be appreciated for the wonderfully stubborn little character that he is. Some people just don't appreciate a dog in his golden years. Ralph is here to prove them wrong. We know there is someone out there with a very special place in their heart for a little old man with a big personality. Ralph doesn't need a perfect home. He just needs someone who understands that sometimes the best dogs come with a little gray hair, a little attitude, and a whole lot of charm. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Story

Damien is a sweet senior boy, around 10 years old, who came to us in pretty rough shape. After some much-needed TLC, a good clean-up, and lots of love, Damien is loving life and showing everyone just how special he is! This little guy absolutely loves his foster siblings and enjoys being part of a family. He is wonderful with people and does well with other dogs as long as they understand and respect his personal space. Damien enjoys playing with his toys, and he seems to have mastered both housebreaking and using pee pads. At the end of the day, he is perfectly content snuggling up on his foster mom’s bed and sleeps quietly through the night. Damien may be a senior, but he still has plenty of love and personality to share. He has already come such a long way, and now he is ready for the very best chapter of his life—a loving forever home where he can continue to enjoy all the good things he deserves. ❤️🐾 Damien does have a heart murmur and will require medication for the rest of his life, along with ongoing follow-up appointments with a veterinary cardiologist. His forever family will need to be committed to keeping up with his medical care and making sure this sweet senior continues to receive everything he needs to live his happiest, healthiest life.

Story

Adopt Moose! 🐾 Moose is an adorable 2yr old Shih Tzu mix. He's a sweet, happy little guy with a heart that's ready for a fresh start. Although his past wasn't kind to him, he's looking ahead to a future filled with love, patience, and security. When Moose was found abandoned, his coat was so severely matted it was tangled tightly against his skin. It was heartbreaking to see the neglect he had endured, but despite everything, Moose hasn't let his past define him. He has a gentle spirit and is ready to trust the right family. Moose enjoys meeting new people and gets along well with other dogs and cats. While he'd be happy to have a canine companion, he'd also thrive as your one and only, soaking up all the love and attention. He's potty trained, loves his daily walks, and rarely passes up the chance to carry around a squeaky toy. Moose is incredibly food motivated, making him eager to learn, and he's already mastering commands like "sit." At the end of the day, his favorite place is curled up beside you on the couch, enjoying all the snuggles he can get. Because of the neglect he experienced, Moose can occasionally be sensitive to touch if he's startled or feeling unsure. He is looking for a patient, experienced, adult-only home that understands he may need a little extra time to build confidence and continue learning that he's finally safe. If you're ready to give this deserving little guy the second chance he's been waiting for, we'd love to hear from you! Apply to adopt Moose at: www.pprct.org
