Story
This 2‑year‑old, 15‑pound Shih Tzu may be small in size, but he has a big, gentle heart that’s impossible not to love. Found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to ACCT Philly, he quickly became urgent due to a dental issue, thankfully, something we can easily take care of so he can start feeling his best again. From the moment we met him, it was clear that this boy finds comfort in closeness. He feels safest when held, snuggled up against someone he trusts, rather than exploring on the ground. He is a sweet, quiet little dog who wants nothing more than a loving family to help him build confidence and show him that the world doesn’t have to be scary. With kindness, patience, and reassurance, he’s sure to blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion. If you’re looking for a gentle, cuddly sweetheart who just needs someone to believe in him, this Shih Tzu boy is ready to start his new chapter by your side. He will come neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, 4dx tested. He also had a dental. If you are serious about adoption, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.phoenixanimalrescue.com His adoption fee is $500. Story
Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Meet Layla. Layla is a small, sweet senior shihtzu who has spent her whole life making babies for a puppy mill. She is 9 years old and weighs 9 lbs. She is learning about life inside her foster home. Layla is quiet in her crate; but will soil in it if she doesn't get a chance to go potty at least every four hours. Although her foster mom lives alone, Layla gets very happy and excited when children stop by to visit. I think a home with older, respectful children or visiting grandkids would be a good fit for Layla. This sweet older gal has a great appetite and isn't the least bit fussy about her food. Layla does walk on a leash although her foster home has a fenced yard for her to go out into.  Layla is in a foster home that has other small dogs living there.  Layla was recently spayed, had a dental cleaning and is up to date with vaccines. She had a very large mammary tumor removed that was most likely a result of all her years of being used to produce puppies. Her adoption fee is $250.00. If you are interested in adopting Layla, please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application.
