Story

Daphne is a playful, opinionated, 6 year old Blue Heeler. She's all smiles and play, spry, clever, and is excited to be with her most loved persons. She gets into mischief and is high energy - she needs a home with a lot of stimulation, and a carer with a sense of adventure happy to wear her out. She currently lives in a fenced yard, is crate trained and is housebroken. We are not aware of any health issues, she was examined and vaccinated in June of this year. We are looking to surrender Daphne because Daphne's prey drive is incompatible with living with our cat. We have attempted a slow introduction, and chase and capture became the natural outcome. We understand this is a trait related to her breed, and regrettably it's not sustainable for us to keep her. Daphne was also my mother and father's dog, and both passed in a three-year period, which is understandably a lot for Daphne's short life. She is beloved, and we want to honor the wishes of our parents in ensuring her happiness.

Jack is a very handsome and smart boy. He has a lot of energy as he’s a herding breed less than a year old. He would do really well in a single dog household with no other cats or children until he hones in on his skills. He likes other dogs a bunch but he needs one on one attention for a while before having any siblings. He would do well as a farm dog to protect livestock or to be someone’s working shadow as he’s intensely smart and loyal. I found Jack dumped in 115 degree heat outside of a remote gas station in Arizona. At the time he was around 10 months old. I made it my mission to be a good foster parent while we found him a good home but because of his high energy the other dogs we have do not like him making our job very difficult. In the time we’ve had him we’ve gotten him neutered, all of his shots and an unregistered microchip, as well as his dna test to better understand his needs. The adoption fee goes towards these things.

Pros: Loves kids in her pack. Well behaved loose in the house. Able to be left alone for several hours. Potty trained to go outside. Respects barriers and gates. Was taught to lay down and stay. Good with other playful dogs in the home. Very food motivated. Is crate trained. Needs work: Has not been around cats. Occasionally reactive to people or dogs on walks, Reactive to large vehicles like trucks, vans, or buses and will try to chase Requires proper slow introduction to new people to feel comfortable Can be people selective. Very loving to her “pack” but reactive to new people Muffin is a 2 year old cattle dog female (DOB 4/29/24). Muffin would be able to thrive in suburban, rural, or farm environments. She is high energy and loves to play, with a very active lifestyle. The ideal situation for this girl would be someone familiar with this breed. She could potentially be a great dog for someone home alone often and would like a dog that wants to be attached at the hip.

ABOUT DANTE Meet Dante, our resident ‘Scrappy-Doo’! This is a little man with a BIG personality! Dante is a 4-year-old terrier mix that started out as a scruffy stray in the streets of Louisiana, until he was rescued by our shelter partners and transported here to us. While he has adjusted here at the shelter, he can still be fearful when meeting new people. To help ease his initial worries, slow introductions to people or dogs are important for Dante. When you first meet him, you’ll hear that signature terrier bark, but once he’s comfortable with you, you’ll see the cuddly, playful, happy little guy he really is! Since arriving here, Dante has become a staff-favorite for his smart, quirky personality and playful attitude! Dante loves a good game of tug of war, rolling in the grass, tossing up his stuffed animals, playtime with a canine companion, and 1-on-1 attention from our team. He keeps his kennel very tidy, and appears house trained already! He loves his walk times, and will sit very nicely if asked. Of course, he will be expecting a treat for his hard work. He would thrive in a home with older kids or adults who can understand when he needs to take things slow. Dante has been introduced to cats, to which he was uninterested, so he may do well with a kitty friend at home too! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
