Story
I’m Blaze, a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix weighing 43 pounds. Surrendered to the shelter when my previous owner felt I was too much for the young children in the home, I’m ready for a second chance at a new beginning. Being in one home for the start of my life, you can imagine my confusion being dropped off at a shelter. I was scared, often using my voice letting new faces know I was unsure. My new adopters will need to understand that it may take some time before I’m truly comfortable with new people and new places. Building trust is a must! Once I know I’m in a safe place, I’m an energetic guy who will solicit bouncy affection and attention. If you are aware of my breed, you’ll know I will need lots of exercise and would love a new family with an active lifestyle keeping me busy. If you’re looking for a pup who loves attention and adventure, I’m the one for you! The Monmouth County SPCA is open for walk-ins every day, starting at noon!

Story
Meet Paisley! Paisley is a 2 year old, 35 pound Australian Shepherd who was rescued from a puppy mill. She was super shy and introverted when she first arrived, but with the help of her foster sister, she has come out of her shell and is now a super playful pup! Her playfulness is coupled with a super affectionate personality. She just can't get enough love and will sit and receive scratches and pets for hours! Paisley also gives the very best hugs ever. Paisley would make an excellent addition to a home with other dogs or an active adult who loves to walk and hike or throw a ball in the yard. She is house trained and looking for a family of her own to paly with! Paisley is currently being fostered in Staten Island. Her adoption fee is $600. Paisley is a Patron Pup. Patron Pups have higher adoption fees due to varying reasons and are adopted quickly, even with these higher adoption fees. They may be purebred, a highly desirable breed, small in size fully grown, etc. These fees allow them to act as patrons to other pets in our care who may not be as adoptable, or have ongoing costs for medical care, contributing to a longer time in rescue, and therefore a higher cost for us to care for them. Patron Pups allow us to continue rescuing these other animals and give them a better chance at finding their forever homes as well. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and Bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Meet Kai! Kai is a 3-month-old, 17-Ib Australian Shepherd puppy who wants nothing more than to be as close to you as possible. The adoration in his puppy dog eyes when he gets even a little bit of attention will melt your heart. Kai is ready to be your best friend - no, like your BEST friend. He will follow you around the house, wiggling his butt and jumping up to give you gentle leg hugs and paw pats. Kai loves other dogs, peanut-butter-filled kongs, stuffed animal toys, bones and most importantly: attention. He has puppy energy and loves hopping around like a rabbit after his stuffed animal toys. Once he's done playing, he wants nothing more but to cuddle up next to you as close as possible and snooze. Kai quickly learned how to sit and to do his business on the pee pads. He sleeps through the night in his crate or play pen and though he cries a little bit when you first put him in, he settles quickly. He can be slightly shy when you first meet him but opens his heart to you quickly. If you want a cuddly, adoring dog who will happily follow you around all day every day, Kai is the one for you! Kai is currently being fostered in Jersey City. His adoption fee is $800. Kai is a Patron Pup.
