Say hello to Theo, a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd mix with the softest ears and at the sweetest personality. Theo is happiest when hes getting lots of attention, lots of activity, and lots of treats. Theo is afraid of other dogs, so he would thrive in a quieter, rural or suburban home with a fenced yard and few canine neighbors, where he can relax, explore, and not run into dogs around every corner. Hes a classic herding dog wants to be by your side and wants to join you in the garden in the summer and in the garage in the winter. He would do well with an experienced dog owner, and even better with someone who has experience with and love for herding dogs. He is good with all humans, whether friends or strangers, but he is shy at first. Once hes comfortable, Theos true personality shines: *Eager to pleaseand loves to learn*Loves a good stuffed boneor an antlerand isnt a counter surfer*Housebrokenand doesnt see the point of a crate *Enjoys hikesand keeping the yard free of chipmunks*Favorite phrase:Lets go! Theo is currently in Jersey City, NJ, but city life isnt his thing, as close encounters with other dogs make him anxious. When he feels overwhelmed, he will bark or lunge, so in the city he wears a basket muzzle on walks as a precaution to prevent an inadvertent bite from his reactivity or redirection. He has lived with another dog before and might do well with the right match, but hed be perfectly happy as an only pet in a consistent home where he can just be himself. Theo has not been cat tested. This sweet Australian shepherd mix may be heartworm positive, but don’t let that scare you away. Heartworm is treatable, and with proper care, love, and a little patience, dogs like Ranger go on to live long, happy, tail-wagging lives. While not much is known about Ranger since he was a stray pickup, what I have learned during his time in foster is that he is a kind and gentle soul, a true gem of an Australian shepherd. He is calmer than most but enjoys a good walk. He is housetrained, learning commands and in his foster home he lives with cats and another dog. He will come to you for pets and fully enjoys having his ears scratched. He is crate trained and sleeps in his all night with no issues. He rarely barks. On walks he has been exposed to traffic, other dogs, random loud noises, charging dogs, ducks, geese and people. He just walks on with no concern. He does like to approach people and sit for pets though. The vet feels he is not yet two years old, and he weighs in at 51 pounds. He will be neutered soon and has all his vaccines. Ranger is available for foster to adopt while he goes through his heartworm treatment.

Story

Marmaduke is a big goofy lovebug! He adores children and other dogs. He is very curious about cats and chickens and is probably best in a home without those (or where he can be separated from them). He is only about 1 year old and has been in rescue all his life. He had a medical issue as a puppy that required surgery and he is completely healed from that. He will do best in a home with a secure fenced yard, another dog or dogs to play with that are not tiny since he's so big, and respectful animal-loving children that will love him as much as he loves them. Cocoa Puffs is a 6 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd. She’s a pandemic puppy and is not socialized around cats, dogs and children. She is a little bit of “Nervous Nelly” when she’s around new people or unfamiliar environment. Cocoa Puffs has resource guarding issues. If she thinks you are trying to take something away from her, she will try to bite you. This does not happen on a daily basis, but it can be unpredictable. The best method while dealing with resource guarding is to give Cocoa Puffs something more of a high value treat to trade off whatever item she thinks she needs to guard. This has worked with me. More details will be provided upon contact. Cocoa Puffs is very smart. She knows the name of all her toys. She is good at doing tricks, like sit pretty, roll over, crawl, spin right/left, go through legs, etc. Of course more training can be done :) no shame in that Cocoa Puffs loves to cuddle on her own terms. I am looking to rehome my 5-year-old neutered Australian Shepherd. He is energetic, intelligent, loyal, playful, and affectionate. He is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, and not aggressive toward strangers or other dogs (though he can be shy or reactive in the first instance depending on the circumstance). He would do best with a good owner who understands herding breeds and can provide a safe and loving home. In certain situations, he will nip at legs indoors, which is consistent herding behavior. He is very food-driven and responds well to positive reinforcement.
