Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: Cape MayBREED: Australian ShepherdDOB: Jun 5, 2026 (11 weeks)GENDER: MaleHOME RECOMMENDATION: Cape May is a herding-breed puppy would do best in an active, attentive home that can provide plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and positive training. Herding breeds are smart, energetic, and eager to learn, so he will thrive with a family who enjoys being active and is committed to giving him daily walks, playtime, training, and opportunities to explore. He would love a family who can include him in their daily activities and give him the attention and structure he needs to grow into a happy, well-rounded adult dog. A securely fenced yard would be a great bonus, but most importantly, he needs a family ready to keep her busy, engaged, and loved!PERSONALITY: Cape May is a sweet cuddle baby with a big, happy personality! He is super energetic, friendly, and loves being around people. Cape May enjoys plenty of affection and is always happy to snuggle up after some playtime. He has the perfect combination of playful puppy energy and a loving, cuddly side that makes him such a joy to be around. Cape May has a big appetite and is very motivated by play, especially his favorite rope toys. He also loves chasing after the kids and joining in on the fun.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTRAINING: Cape May is an extremely smart puppy who is picking up on training quickly! He immediately understood how to use the wee-wee pads and faux grass area for both pee and poop, and he is also doing well going potty outside. He is sleeping nicely in his crate at night and settling in well with his routine. He is still getting used to walking on a leash, but he is making progress each day. With his intelligence and eagerness to learn, Cape May should continue to thrive with consistent training and positive reinforcement.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
