Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750 Meet Summit – The Sweetheart at the Top of the Mountain Age: 5 months old Breed: Border Collie / Aussie Mix (ish!) Weight: 12lbs (expected to max out around 20–25lbs) Personality: Shy sweetheart, soft soul, dog-loving explorer Summit didn’t get her name by accident—because once you meet her, you’ll feel like you’ve reached the very top of something special. She’s a 5 month old mini herding breed mix with soft fur, a curious mind, and one of those gentle souls that makes your heart ache just a little—in the best way. With one blue eye and one brown, Summit has a gaze that’ll stop you in your tracks and quietly ask, “Can I trust you?” And once she decides the answer is yes? Get ready to fall in love. When she first arrived from the shelter, Summit was shy, uncertain, and overwhelmed. The world was big and noisy, and she preferred the quiet comfort of her crate where she could observe from a distance. But with patience, treats, and a soft voice, she’s begun to bloom. Today, she’s a sweet, fun-loving pup who lights up when she sees another dog—tail up, spirit lifted, energy completely transformed. She’s like a sunflower turning toward the sun. Summit can be an only dog, but we won’t sugarcoat it—it’ll take more work, more time, and more patience. Dogs are what light her heart on fire. Having a friendly, playful canine sibling would not only make her happier—it would help her grow into her best self. A Day in the Life of Summit Summit lives with an early-rising foster and their 9-year-old pup. She starts her day with a 5–6am potty break, breakfast in a slow feeder (she’s not picky—kibble is just fine), and a good play session in the yard. After that, she naps in her crate while her foster is at work, gearing up for an evening of fun. After work, it’s potty and playtime again, dinner around 5:30–6pm, more zoomies and snuggles, and then bedtime at 9pm—with one late-night potty break to keep things accident-free. She settles back into her crate like a pro… although she’d really prefer to sleep on the bed (her foster’s resident dog vetoed that idea). And yes, she gets a bedtime bully stick, because Summit is that kind of princess. Her Heart in a Snapshot: She’s shy at first, but worth the wait. She loves other dogs more than anything. She’s respectful, gentle, and learns best by following their lead. She’s playful but not wild. Tennis balls = new obsession. Not a big barker, not a digger, not destructive. Housebroken and crate trained. Chews only on her toys (unless your shoes smell like a snack). Still learning about leashes—right now, they’re scary. But she’s smart and gentle, and with some guidance, she’ll get the hang of it. She’s very food-motivated, loves to learn, and is already mastering 'sit' and 'down' with a wagging tail and hopeful eyes. Summit’s Ideal Home Another young dog to play with and guide her (please!). A calm environment where she can warm up at her own pace. A patient adopter who understands that shy dogs aren’t broken—they’re just quiet magic. A secure yard and a soft blanket in the sun. Someone who will love her not in spite of her shyness, but because of it. Bonus Fun Fact: Her favorite perch? Standing proudly on top of her crate to supervise kitchen activities like the noble mountain goat she is. Counter surfing? Nah. She's more of a summit seeker. (Just don’t offer her broccoli—hard pass.) Summit is the kind of dog who won’t come bounding into your life with wild energy. She’ll tiptoe in quietly, gently, and suddenly you’ll realize you can’t imagine your days without her. If you’re ready for a soft soul with a heart full of potential, Summit is ready to climb into your arms—and your heart.May 22, 2025, 10:28 pm

Story
IN Santa Cruz! Meet Ranger, a 8 year old Border Collie male. Ranger is is typical border collie who is playful and super smart. Ranger came to us after his owner passed away. He was loved but didn’t get out too much. He was 1 of 4+ plus dogs and we think the dogs were left to their own devices. With this being said, Ranger can be nervous in public and is more of a homebody.  Ranger can be good with other dogs when he gains trust with them but we think he be best suited for a home as the only pet (no cats). Ranger’s ideal home would be: -a home where he can be a priority  -a home experienced with border collies or other herding breeds  -owners that are understanding of his sensitives in pubic  -would be best suited as the only pet Ranger is a fun loving border collie but he also has an off switch! He is perfectly happy relaxing on the couch hanging out with his owners. Ranger will make his people very happy but they also need to be understanding of his background and manage his environment.  Ranger is; fully house trained, has good house manners, no nuisance barking and is easy to live with. He also has some basic training under the right circumstances.  Ranger is is neutered, up-to-date and microchipped. If you would like to learn more about this sweet guy, please submit an application. https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.
