Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Teriyaki is a 3 year old Border Collie x Poodle mix who is looking forward to digging into life with her forever home! This gorgeous gal was surrendered to a good citizen when the older dog in her former home wasn’t willing to accept a new sister. Well, we promised Teriyaki her next home would be absolutely perfect and she hopped into our arms! Teriyaki is on a bit of a weight loss journey (it’s hard to resist her puppy dog eyes and she used them to rake in the cookies). She has a Border Collie type coat so she won’t be an option for those with true allergies. If you’re ready for a lifetime of fun and loving adventure, order Teriyaki and prepare for an amazing dish!    Teriyaki is a friendly and energetic gal who adores her people and can’t wait to join them on every adventure to come! She is the perfect mix of energy: happy to strap on her adventure pack for a trip to the beach but also just as thrilled to snuggle on the couch for Netflix and popcorn. She is a world-class fetch champion and crushes interactive playtime. She is super smart and works her fabulous ears and puppy dog eyes to her advantage. She loves being with her people and is always ready for a long snuggle session on the couch. She will bring the kisses if you bring the cuddles!  Teriyaki is super friendly with all people and makes everyone she meets a forever bestie. Due to a previous negative experience where the former resident dog went after her, she would do best in a home as a solo dog or with a confident resident dog. She is super loving and would love a dog willing to let her cuddle. She has some crate reactivity she is working on. She is on a weight loss journey in her foster home but her active personality is helping her lose some pounds.  Teriyaki is crate trained, house trained, and has a long roster of tricks she knows. She will happily show off sit, down, and paw in exchange for a low-calorie treat. Maki is an early bird due to her previous homes schedule but she is adapting well to her new schedule. She would love a home where her people are always around to give her love. Teriyaki would thrive in a loving home where she can receive the attention and care she deserves. She is an all-around friendly dog who would make a great companion for someone willing to continue her weight loss journey and provide a stable and loving environment.   Teriyaki is only an option for homes with prior dog owning experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 15.July 26, 2024, 2:33 pm

Story
About the dog: Basil is well socialized and had consistent and extensive training using positive reinforcement and clicker training growing up. He has great house manner, super smart, potty trained, crate trained, loves agility, walk on leash nicely and can be offleashed. He enjoys hiking, city walk or just hanging out on the couch. His problems: He was resource guarding around food since day one. We were able to train it out of him(toward people) when he's around 6 months old, but he still guards against other dogs. He's very affectionate, and very friendly to strangers, but only when he initiates it, and does not like being hugged. He's super nice and sweet 95% of the time, and gets comments such as 'well behaved, friendly & sweet' all the time on the street. Although rare, when stressed, he can show aggression without warning. He does have bite history, and has shown aggression to 2 people so far (no stitches needed).

07/24/24 23:56DOG DAY OUT REPORT:Today I: Went on a long walk on Coyote Creek Trail! I had so much fun on the car ride, and even though I had a lot of energy, I waited patiently in the backseat. I was super excited when we got to the trail, and I walked so well. We saw other people, other dogs, and even some squirrels. And even though I really wanted to meet them, I stayed next to my friend. We relaxed on a park bench for some time where I got to watch some other people and I got pets and belly rubs from my friend. After our walk, I was an expert at sitting in the car on the way back. Three Words to Describe Me are: Energetic, cuddly, curiousNotes from My Walker: Citrine is very bouncy at first, but very sweet and I had no problems getting him ready/in the car. He was well behaved on his walk. He needs some practice walking on a leash, but he didn’t show much reactivity on the trail. He wanted to meet some of the other dogs, but he was easy to manage. He is a little afraid of bikes, but he does not panic and still walks well. He didn’t show signs of getting tired after walking about 5 miles, but it was getting hot so we didn’t go longer. He is so lovable and affectionate, and we had a nice cuddle session. He was able to get into and out of the car easily, and was very interested in treats. I think he would be great for an active family.07/23/24 09:34Meet Citrine! This little dynamo is a fetch superstar. His favorite thing in the world is a tennis ball and a game of fetch - he even brings the ball back to your feet! Citrine has an infectious smile and will keep you laughing. He’s a social boy that is great with all people and loves doggie playgroups. He’s ball and treat motivated and knows sit. Ready to add a fun loving active companion to your home? Citrine is your guy!04/04/24 13:34notes from foster:Meet Citrine, a vibrant dog bursting with energy and affection. Citrine`s zest and energy is infectious and will thrive in a home with just as much energy. While he may need some guidance in the housebreaking department, Citrine`s eagerness to learn, play and give full-body hugs more than make up for it. His endearing clumsiness never fails to bring a smile to your face, making every moment with him a delightful adventure. Already familiar with basic commands like `sit` and `down,` and fully crate trained, Citrine enjoys winding down by selecting a toy from his basket before settling into his crate fo

07/18/24 23:38Dog Day Out notes from last week:Today I got to go on a long walk with my volunteer and we had so much fun! There were so many things to sniff and I got to see squirrels and birds and even some other dogs. We took a break on our walk to play with a toy; I love toys!! It was so much fun, I like to toss the toy up and catch it and zoom around. I got to show off my tricks, “sit” and “paw” to my volunteer, she said I am a very smart dog and take treats gently. After all of that fun, we went to starbucks and I got a pup cup. It was a great day and I hope to find a home that will take me out on more walks!Three Words to Describe Me are: Energetic, sweet, smartNotes from My Walker: They say girls just wanna have fun, and Tess lives up to that! She is a fun and outgoing dog that was a joy to take out on DDO! She happily hopped right into the car and quietly rode in the car while enjoying some sniffs out of the window. She was very good on the leash and was easy to walk; we passed bikes, walkers/joggers, other dogs, lawnmowers, etc and she was great. I brought a stuffed toy that she played with while we cooled off in the shade and her fun personality really shined while she was playing. She definitely loves toys and enjoyed playing tug of war and zooming around with the toy in her mouth. Tess is a smart dog and already knows “sit” and “paw” and is very attentive when I was walking with her; she also takes her treats very gently. Tess seems up for anything and will be a great adventure buddy!

Story
Notes from the foster: `Ivy is a sweet pup who could be a wonderful pet for an adopter with an appropriate physical space and a commitment to providing the training that she clearly didn’t receive before being abandoned. There were specific reasons why her foster placement with me wasn’t workable, but these wouldn’t apply to all settings. I’ll “start with the bad news” and explain the issues: She clearly had been an outdoor-only, backyard dog before… and I don’t have a back yard. She was afraid of my front door, deck, front steps, and patio, so I couldn’t take her out there for toileting as I had planned. The only way out of my house was in the back, through the garage, and then walking around the block to the public park. She had clearly never been walked on a leash before. Initially, it was a chaotic mess of slaloming in front of me and/or crashing into me. Even more problematic was the fact that she wouldn’t relieve herself, on the leash. I spent hours out in the park with her, having her sniff all of the popular peeing spots, which she clearly found entertaining; but she was not inspired to join in. The only place I could have let her have outdoor off-leash time was on my patio, which (as per above) she was inexplicably afraid of and wouldn’t go near. Thus, I spent four days desperately trying to get her to pee and poop outside, to no avail. Her other slightly problematic behavior was chewing. She’s young, and it’s normal and understandable, but it started somewhat suddenly on Day 2, and I had to scramble to get bully sticks and rawhides because she was shredding cardboard, paper towels, and one unfortunate shoe. My fault for not getting out ahead of that problem, though. She did much better once she had appropriate things to chew on. Lastly, as you might expect after being abandoned, she had some separation anxiety. I spent a lot of time hanging out with her. Any attempt on my part to stand up was countered by her crawling into my lap to keep me from moving. Once I was on my feet, she would not just follow me around, but actively block my path and get underfoot. At first she would whine when I left the room, until she learned how to follow me up the stairs. So, she was pretty needy at first, and a bit large to be climbing all over me the way she wanted to. On the other hand, the good news: apart from the toileting problems that I couldn’t solve, most of her issues improved as she settled in… and she also

Story
Daisy is a goofy, clever, loving three-year-old girl. She is the best hiking & running companion - and an avid rock-climber - but she also loves relaxing at home; she likes to make a nest out of her toys & blankets, or to snuggle up with her favourite humans. She can be shy around strangers but she melts when you give her cheese. She is house-trained, potty-trained, and crate-trained. She has never had any problems with digging, scratching, or jumping. She’s up-to-date on her vaccinations and is on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Daisy has been a well-loved member of our family for almost her entire life, and we are devastated to have to part ways with her. She has struggled with dog reactivity and needs a home where she can be the only dog in the family; she is stressed living with our other dog, and we love her and just want her to be happy and successful, even if that means finding her a new family to love.
