Story
Callie is a sweet, mellow girl looking for a loving home with space to roam. She thrives best in a home with a large, secure yard—she can easily clear a 4-foot fence and loves to explore, so taller fencing is a must. She’s an outdoor enthusiast at heart:    •   Loves to swim    •   Can’t resist chasing anything that flies 🐦🦋    •   Enjoys being active but also has a calm, relaxed side At home, Callie is:    •   Pretty mellow and easygoing    •   Crate-trained and sleeps peacefully in her crate at night    •   A strong chewer who needs indestructible chew toys Callie has completed professional training, but in a busy household with multiple dogs she struggles to stay focused and ends up losing progress.. She would do best in a very structured, low-distraction environment. We want Callie to have the space, attention, and environment she needs to truly thrive. She has so much affection to give and and will be an amazing companion in the right home.

Story
Contact foster at ksblanks34@gmail.com- Came in with a fractured leg but he doesn’t let that dampen his spirits- He is a happy-go-lucky boy, looking for a safe spot to continue recovery- Super sweet + treat motivated- Typical puppy energy + continue to practive basic obedience training and consistency- Loves toys, belly rubs + snuggling on the sofa- Sillest boy who jumped right inside the toy bin and had the time of his life- Happiest by your side, staying close and following you around- Learning `sit` and `lay down` which he does very well when there are no distractions and is getting better during outings. Tommy gets anxious/over excited in new environments but does very, very well with the command `chill` in a soothing voice. Does experience seperation anxiety but settles in after 10-20 minutes depending on the day.I found that guiding him to `chill` over the camera`s microphone helps this a lot. He is alert and can be reactive when responding to noises and people he sees/hears around my apartment building. His reactivity can range from: stiff body/low growl/lunging/barking. This is especially when first going outside(much better with this the further we get from the door), at drive-thru workers, or when other dogs start growling at introduction. He does well during outings. He has made great friends with a few neighbors. There have been postitive interactions with other dogs as well where he enjoys running around and taking turns playing chase. Tommy will benefit from continuing to work with a trainer regarding his reactivity. Though he has experienced dog parks, it is not the best idea for him. We went to PetSmart yesterday for socialization and after the initial overexcitement, he settled into the environment and was just super curious/interested in everything around him!He has improved from his leash biting tendancy by working on no mouth use and learning to play in appropriate ways.He is very treat motivated, which is helping the training!

Story
Contact the foster at, jessicamcghee15@gmail.comBetty is full of love, both for humans and other dogs, and she’s neutral towards cats. She is very attached to humans so she will always be right by your side. She gets along well with our senior, male dog and sometimes she even gets him to play a game of tug of war. She has lots of energy on her walks and does well on a leash but she can pull sometimes when she wants to say hi to another dog (We’re working on this and feel it should be corrected soon.). Overall, she listens well and responds to basic commands like sit, paw, stay, etc., and if she does something she’s not supposed to, she listens and corrects her behavior. She is very food motivated which is helping us to train her, but if there are other pets in the home, she should eat separately. We’ve been feeding them in separate rooms, but they get their treats next to each other and we’ve had zero issues. She is fully house-trained and will let you know if she needs to go outside. She goes in the crate while we’re away and to sleep at night and she’s done so well with learning the routines! We’ve given her treat puzzles and she loves them, along with any type of chew toy with a squeaker! They keep her busy and engaged in between walks throughout the day. She would definitely love a house with a yard, but she would also be fine without a yard, as long as she gets daily walks with enrichment activities. I think she enjoys having another dog around but I don’t think it’s necessary for her to be happy. She would make a wonderful family dog, especially for first time adopters, since she already has a lot of training and now she only needs some fine tuning with some of her behaviors. For now, I would not recommend a house with young children, solely because she still jumps a lot when she’s excited (another behavior we’re working on), and she could easily knock over a small child. She has brought so much joy to our house. She is such a happy and affectionate dog with a goofy personality! The ultimate love bug!

Story
I`m sponsored! Thanks to donor support, my adoption fee will be reduced by $20!On a day out with a volunteer, Harvey was great in the car, jumping right in and settling. He walked nicely on leash and front clipped harness/collar. He met an older female dog and they walked well side by side. When Harvey occasionally got too close she corrected him and he accepted it. He ignored other passing dogs. He spent some time in a crate and whined softly and briefly before settling. He took an interest in indoor and outdoor cats and squirrels, so maybe would do best in a home without smaller animals. Harvey met an 8 year old and was calm while he petted him. He seemed a little nervous around loud passing cars but did not overreact. From these and previous shelter observations, Harvey: - seems house trained (potties outside and is not destructive left alone)- walks nicely on leash; loves to sniff - settles in a crate after briefly whining - is not reactive around other dogs (slow intro always recommended for both dogs` sake)- may be too interested in cats to live with them- seems comfortable around children with good dog manners - doesn`t like loud cars but doesn`t overreact - enjoys being pet and loved on

Story
Dozer is a energetic, loving dog. He'll wake you up in the morning to let you know he needs to handle his business, loves to play fetch with you, loves his stuffed animals, and loves to be close. Very much a velcro dog. Dozer enjoys roaming around in the back yard in the mornings before eating breakfast, followed by a mild play sessions including tossing toys across the room while he retrieves them. He only likes this a handful of times before he just wants to lounge and chew on the toy. His current human works from home, so when it is work time, he'll take a nap behind the humans chair, maybe chew on another toy. He does appreciate the occassional toss of the toy down the hall and retrieval of it. He'll annoy you if he needs to go outside, but otherwise mind his own. Then a walk at the end of the day, around the time work wraps up, some lounging on the couch, dinner, and then bedtime. Dozer is house trained, but doesn't have a signal to tell you he need to use the restroom outside o

Story
** Bonded with Constance **I’m Nebbercracker, a sweet, gentle boy who needs a fresh start in a loving home.My previous owner brought me and my little sister, Constance, to the Humane Society of York County after falling on hard times and not being able to care for us. We’re a bonded pair who rely on each other and need to find a home together! I’m a medium-size guy around 45 pounds, and my estimated birth date is October 2017. Constance is a tiny tot, a Pomeranian. We came to HSYC needing some TLC. We’ve gotten the love and care we needed and are ready for a forever home!Because we’re semi-seniors, any adopter age 65 or over qualifies for a discount on adoption costs with the Seniors for Seniors program.I may be a senior, but I have plenty of pep. I dearly love going for my daily walks (often with Constance), and I do well on leash. I’m also a cuddly boy and appreciate snuggles with my human friends.I’m such a happy boy, and I can’t wait till my new forever family finds me and my sister! Maybe that’s you?If you wish to meet me, please call the Humane Society of York County at (803)-802-0902 to schedule an appointment. Please refer to our website for adoption requirements: https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/adopt/adoption-process.htmlThank you for your support.
